In fairness, how many players have come anywhere near Zidane from any league since?

Good point, just wanted to make the point that 1 player coming from a league doesn't qualify the quality of the league.

    Lewandowski linked with United.

Very curious to see what happens at Valencia this summer. Likely to get some money in for Alba and also a number of players will probably be released. I think the club is finally in a position again where players don't need to be sold to balance the books.

It's rumoured that Guardado for free from Depor is a done deal. My ideal signings would be Debuchy, Borja Valero and a striker.

    Barca should be in Alba.

Guardado should have left Depor last summer, such a waste of his talent to have spent a season in the Segunda.
Pretty much this, with three heads pulling in different directions, as usual. Top brass decided during the summer to get rid of all the high earners and buy in cheap replacements. They know they'll never be able to compete with PSG any more for the big foreign players and the domestic starlets they've been used to hoovering up are not so keen to go to Marseille any more. The de facto policy of selling one big name player to the big leagues hit a snag as they had nobody worth selling. Plus they pissed away a load of cash on poison like Gignac who's just an unsellable, useless, unmanageable money sink.

    Yup.

Not just Marseille I should have pointed out, but Lyon are in a similar boat as well. PSG have just blown everything out of the water with their owners. Speculation has picked up again that Pato, Kaka and Higuain are targets for the summer. Can't see the latter going, but the Brazilians, there is certainly a chance I feel. Sure, Pato was pretty damn close to signing in January.

Lille have done well this season all things considered, but once they lose Hazard, they'll really be on the ropes I feel if Rudi Garcia leaves.

Montpeiller have been arguably the story of the season in world football. Well punched above their weight. Giroud (could be still Bayern bound) has got a lot of the headlines because he is the main goalscorer and has done exceptionally well but, it's been the two youngsters in Belhanda and Mbiwa that are the real gems of that side IMHO. I pray Liverpool who have been linked a fair bit with him in recent weeks sign Belhanda, though on the small chance City miss out on Hazard, if you believe reports, Belhanda is their fall back option.

But back to my main point, in the long term I just don't see the juggernaut that is PSG being stopped for quite sometime without the others getting near to similar investment. PSG just need to improve defensively and they are fairly set from a starting XI point of view.

Great write up. You're certainly one of the more knowledgeable posters in regards to continental football.

Just in regards to Belhanda. Do you see him ending up in England staying in France(PSG) or to another country. I can't think of many Moroccan's who've done too well in Spain, Germany Italy etc.
To me he seems perfect for England as he can do some of the more physical CM stuff.

At the same age as Hazard, Zidane had just made the move from Cannes to Bordeaux (where he stayed for 4 years) and had just picked up a couple of caps with the French national team.

in comparison Hazard has been capped 26 times for Belgium, has played 80 league games more.

Don't get me wrong it's unlikely he'll ever reach Zidane's level, but World Class - certainly.

Belhanda is reportedly a PSG fan (which I only found out recently), and there were some rumours of PSG having made a bid and were even on talks recently but I don't think there is much to it tbh. For the sheer fact Nicollin (Mont's president, and someone well worth reading up on as he's some character) truly despises PSG as well as Marseille for that matter. He's made comments that in the past more or less saying that over his dead body would he sell his players to either club.

IMO, I think he'll be on the move in the summer. If I had put money down, it'd be on a move to the EPL. I just don't see Nicollin selling his star players to any of the big French clubs be it PSG or whoever. So if he does stay in France, he'll remain at Montpeiller for at least one more season. Could be a similar situation to Hazard last summer.

edit - as for Belhanda's positon. I'm see him long term as a CM or an AM. He can play either role comfortably, but he's also capable of playing on the right wing as well. He started his career as a winger actually. But for someone of his ability, it'd be a waste playing them him there after he's excelled at in the center. One of those all round midfielders. No way saying he's as good as Yaya Toure just for example sake, at least atm but he's in that type of midfielder if you get me.

We'll see I guess. Not sure it's an equal comparison, the timing of caps between France and Belgium though, Belgium have been pretty mediocre most of my life time anyway, I would expect a very good player like Hazard to have had a lot of caps for them.

Newcastle United have sign Carlo Del Fava, duration and the money involved still a secret

The thing is he's a rugby player and has signed for the Newcastle Falcons. Oooops :)

    maybe after a new deal

What's he on now? 250k a week? Mustn't be content with only being able to buy one Ferrari a week. Probably wants to be able to buy two.

I doubt he'll be moving. No team in the world (bar those in China or the Middle East) could afford to pay his wages.

He is 29, it is going to be his/his agents last big pay day, nothing more to it than that.

They used to say Nasri was the next Zidane although to be fair he never embraced that side of things.

I don't think Hazzard will be the next Zidnne either or come near to Zidane's quality, which goes to show average players these days can command massive salaries and transfer fees far in excess of what they are worth.

Hazzard is a good player in an average league.

You hadnt heard of him 3 days ago, seriously just give up.

Didn't realise he was that old. I thought he was 27 max.

City will have to throw the money at him. They can't afford to lose him, but they can afford to keep him. He is the main player in their team alongside Kompany. From an attacking point he is probably their most important player.

As a United fan I'd like to see him leave, but I can't think of anywhere that he'd really go.

Ferguson and Mike Phelan were in attendance at Dortmund-Bayern.

I'm not a Utd fan but would like to see Kagawa join them next season, really good player.

They witnessed an amazing performance. If there was any doubts in their minds before, Kagawa dispelled them in that game.

That's also him finally really truning in a big game performance - soemthing that he'd been criticised about before.

TBF it seems to be all coming from his agent, even reading through the article it seems that he is the one pimping Toure out.

Garath McCleary signed up by Reading.

Good to see another player who played non league football getting a premier league chance. Did well at Forest and his dribbling at pace, skill and ability to smack a shot should be an asset to Reading next season.

Possibly best known for his 4 goal contribution to this game.

Yeah, even in my wildest dreams, I can't see Fergie wanting to splash out that much for a single player. I think, as much as I'd like Hazard, I would rather see him buy Kagawa and another player or two with that money.

Unless, of course, the plan is to buy Hazard and Kagawa. Then awesome :D

The fee may be wrong but there seems to be a bit of momentum gathering about him going to Man United

He'll cost about £40 Million. I doubt United will pay that for him. He's 100% off to City.

Latest rumour is Kagawa will cost €12 Million + Park Ji-Sung
