A new trailer has been released today showing another map "Donya Fortress". Doesn't look too bad actually.

    Also here's the first trailer:

This thread can be the discussion thread for before & after the expansion is released.

Looks hectic. I know its called close quarters but I hope the maps are still a bit more open then metro

I am actually looking forward to close quarters on some points. I do not see anything wrong with infantry focused maps.

I think there's been a misconception created via Metro that battlefield should not have infantry focused maps. But the truth is that there has been a strong infantry focus streak in the game design since battlefield vietnam and its popular. You only had to look at the sheer number of infantry only karkand maps that was filling battlefield 2 to know this.

Where Metro tripped up was that it did box it in too much and created those horrible chokes. This has resulted in some believing battlefield should be about big vehicle maps only and bitching mostly on the youtube channel to these trailers about how wrong this is. But they are wrong. There is nothing wrong with an infantry focused map pack, but DICE need to give some reassurance that the maps will not cause the same clusterf*ck scenario as Metro.

Awesome stop lying you hate infantry only maps lol.

From that video it looks like there's way to much destruction seems hard to make out people some times with so much exploding going on

I hate infantry only maps when you are on the other team :P

What the hell are smoke grandees for? I've been in a the position of being pushed back to C and to the spawn point on metro and its been pulled back and won..
threw the use of lmgs smoke, rpgs and just some hostile playing.. battle field you gotta think on your feet the only reason it turns into a cluster fvck is because you allow it to

Ps I love metro my favorite map :D

Yeah, it's stupid. A bit of close quarters action as a break from huge maps is a great game changer. I mean, they don't have to play the maps. F**k it, they don't even have to buy them. Many of them say they'll do just that, refuse to buy them. But they will anyway. And they'll play them too.

Looking forward to the maps, while they might have their issues. Can't say no to new maps. Just hope they sort out the suppression before the release of the DLC.

I'm honestly surprised by the lack of people using smoke grenades, myself aside of course They are most useful on maps like Metro, Seine Crossing and Grand Bazaar.

I know I havnt unlocked the smoke for the morter. Not sure if I did it for the m320
I just dont use them much, If I was to take an under barrel I'd be more inclined for the under barrel shotgun (though I havnt done that since the last patch).

Actually I must have unlocked smoke cause I did all the assignments guess I'll dig it out at some point.

Yeh the Scar-L will have 31 rounds in a mag and be more effective at medium range ..

The SCAR-L is a lower calibre than the SCAR-H.

Looking forward to the Aug and the ACR. Not a big fan of the Scar-H in BF, maybe the Scar-L could be a happy medium.

Judging from the new trailer it seems to be like gun game in cod where when you kill someone the weapon is automatically cycled to a random new one.

That's exactly what it is. For those that have premium look in the videos section, there's a full reveal of the Close Quarters maps. They look class! A lot of vertical game play which is what i was hoping for.

Thats exactly what it is. You start off with the MP443, then the 93R, magnum and so on...

Never a fan of Gun Game so Gun Master is not my type of thing at all.

Only played 2 maps, but its class. Really fast paced, twitch shooting. Vertical gameplay is definitely the selling point. Can't remember the name of the map but there's basically 3 different levels per map, 8v8 and basically chaos. Shooting lads through walls, hopping off a balcony on the 3rd floor down to a guy below to stab him, C4ing myself a new pathway... just 3 of the highlights of my first game of Conquest Domination.

Like the assignments for B2K, you have to have CQ installed for the stats to count.

Trying for the stuff that need assault kills and f200 kills, never used that and have no unlocks for it so getting that over with. The rest were for guns i tend to use anyway.

Something annoying is occurring in the games I've played... people putting C4 all over the flags and just camping one spot the whole game. Even if you kill them it doesn't deter them from camping. Granted, it was 7 easy kills for me, but it might become a major annoyance.

Yup, Operation 925. And Scrap Metal as well I suppose. Donya Fortress isn't that easy to camp imo, unless you find yourself glitching your legs into the walls :/

Scrap Metal is easily my favorite of the new maps, although I haven't played Zuba Tower yet.

You need to be close to capture on these maps, maybe that's why.

You do indeed, right on the flag in most cases is about the extreme of the burn zone. It'll start grating on others quickly I'm sure. Try capping a flag and some camper hiding in a corner has C4 lathered all over it.

One of the new assignments is 10 kills with C4.

Is there anyway to turn off the friend bar on battlelog?
Its completely useless for console players and screws up the size of everything else

Also I'm noticing a nice trend of game breaking glitches being solved by patches that include new DLC, seems a bit convenient...

Spent a long while getting shotgun kills for the 2 assignments, got more kills than i needed but the game was going well with it so i just kept going.

Only noticed to day that while i got the 20 kills done the 25 kills one needed to be done as an engineer.

I like CQ but after an hour or so I am feeling like a child, it is very arcadey but is fun I suppose.

The C4 trick is so easily done:

    1. Cap a flag
    2. Lob 5 C4s down
    3. Hide
    4. Wait for enemy to cap flag
    5. Explode C4
    6. Take flag

    = easy kills.

Also the SPM should go through the roof because of the action etc. Makes your SPM on normal BF3 seem very small.

Don't get your hopes up.Unless you like a barrage of RPG's flying down corridors,90% of people using shotguns(it makes sense because almost everyone you meet will be in range),claymores around every second turn and everybody and I mean everybody with their finger on sprint from start to finish, then it will disappoint.

I played it for a couple of hours the first 2 days and have not gone near it since.
Everything that sets Battlefield apart from other shooters is stripped away from this.
No need for teamwork as the maps are too small to organise anything,no vehicles, nothing.
It's basically people running around like headless chickens for the entire game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭DeWinterZero

For release time for your area go into Origin and click the i icon on BF3. Hover the mouse over the expansion name for release time.

And the result for Ireland is Close Quarters unlocks at 18:00GMT 12th of June.

PS From looking through the release notes for the latest server update it looks like all the new maps are designed for a maximum of 16 players even for the PC. 64 players probably means spawn, drop a C4, kill half the enemy team :D

While I agree its headless chicken stuff, most of the RPG/LMG stuff is about getting the assignments done. I'd rarely seen a PKP until the new assignments came out. Now its everywhere -___-

You can get them done in regular maps. CQ just seems handier for some due map size.

I'm doing them outside of CQ obviously. Try getting an EOD bot kill on those maps
