Went out with the intention of doing my lsr. Felt dreadful, legs like lead, sore head and heart racing, sweating buckets. Decided to cut my losses and just do 3.5 gentle miles and come home. Feeling like I have ran 20 miles now I'm in. Exhausted is not the word for me now. Annoyed and frustrated :-(
Not a nice feeling but from reading the posts here and from my own experience you will prob go out tomor and do your LSR and wonder what the hell happened today. You could be coming down with something too. Listen to your body and don't overdo it if you are feeling unwell.

Hi. Fifteen miles tomorrow so getting early night. Was my birthday this week and my other half bought me a garmin!!! Yippee! No more using my phone. Question though ...what to you use to listen to books music on? Would love small clip on mp3 device but what one? Any suggestions of something that works well when running?

Just adding my mileage to the spreadsheet there and noticed the dates have gone a bit askew as August only shows 30 days.

I'd blame the idiot in charge ! :P

    Sorted.

This exact thing happened me a few weeks back. I bounced back the following week with no issues. You will too.

Just back from LSR, thought the route was about 17.5 miles but turned out to be 18 miles. Completed in 3 hours flat, but the last few miles were pretty tough. Definitely getting doubts about the big day, as the mileage creeps up and the LSRs give us more of an idea of what we're in for, but trying to stay positive and believe in the plan! The chocolate milk never tasted so good when I got home:) Off now for an ice bath and hot shower ;)

Hi dechol I got a garmin a few weeks ago and just went cold turkey on listening to anything. Didn't fancy still carrying my phone just for the music so don't listen to anything. I actually enjoy this more than with music but maybe its not for everyone. The garmin is amazing, enjoy your new toy and happy birthday :)

Went to do 17 lsr this morning as I was starting I felt a pain in the arch of my foot. I tried to keep going hoping it was my mind messing with me but I gave up after a couple of k. Head is wrecked. Hopefully a bit if rest and it should be ok.

Heading off on holidays this week so hoping to get a few runs in when I'm there. Can't see me doing any big lsr's while I'm away but you never know.

Must be the week for it.

Thankfully I was only on for a 4 mile run today - Lasted approx 1 kilometre before finding myself walking. Just didn't have the energy / stamina whatever to run today.

I'm due to doa 15 mile LSR tomorrow morning so I figured it would be counter productive to plough through. Settled for a slow run interspersed with a handful of walk breaks - 5k in 35 min.

Just back from a 19 mile lsr and found it tough - especially in my thighs. Did it in 2 hours 50 so was delighted with that. Heres my problem though i am struggling with my nutrition during long runs I've always ran on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and just bring a bottle of water with me but with today's run being 19 miles I thought I should eat something before I headed out so I had a slice of wholemeal toast an hour before my run but 10 miles in I desperately need to go to the loo which never happened before so I'm a bit worried now about eating before the marathon as I don't want that worry on the big day - anybody in the same boat ?

    Hi everyone,

Week 11 is ready to go (someone check the dates :P)

I've added a new sheet which will stay as the last sheet as the weeks progress. It's a sheet where if you like (no pressure to do so) you can fill in what your expected finishing time will be. If you have a particular goal time that's what you enter - if like me you're in the let's just finish it enter what time you think you will be finishing in. The concept here is to let everyone see who is going to be in and around them on the day. If you know a handful of fellow boardsies are aiming / expecting for the same times it may be a good idea to hook up on the day. Again that's a personal choice. :)

The goal times will become clearer after the upcoming half marathon but I'm sure there's lots here who have a fair idea what they will be aiming for on the day already.

Finally managed a bit of movement in my legs to get up.

18m done. Found the last 5 miles very tough. That said i took a new route that had a number of steep hills i didnt know existed which took some bit out of me.

It was very hot out too. Wrecked now, if im this bad after 18m LSR i can't imagine DCM. Onwards and upwards anyway. We'll see if today stands to me next week for the 19 miler.

Hope everyone had good runs this weekend.

Thanks PM aswell, thats a great idea

Donal - here's my story with the Asics Nimbus 13.

I started running with Nimbus 11, was very happy with them so a year later I stuck with Nimbus 12 and earlier this year went in and confidently said goodbye to 145 precious friends for Nimbus 13.

Almost immediately I noticed brand new leg aches, a little like shin splints but different, plus achy ankles, the works. I worried about it for ages and then admitted to myself that it all dated from the new runners.

Eventually (about 4-6 weeks later) I went into Amphibian King. They said "Asics wanted to make the Nimbus 13 lighter so they took a lot of the support out of the heel" and he bent the heel down with one finger. I was disgusted. Barely 6 weeks of running with 145 euro runners?

Anyway, if you can change your order now I would. If you can't then I really hope you don't require the same support I obviously do and get on all right with them.

The moral of the story is - always buy in a specialised running shop...

    Fingers crossed for you Donal!

I bought my Marathon runners yesterday as well! I ordered them online from Sportsshoes.com so hopefully the correct ones arrive!! Wanted to get the exact same pair/model I already have (Asics Nimbus 13) as when I changed runners to a different pair last year I got lots of achilles pain till I switched back......... and this close I don't want to rock the boat! Was my own fault as I just bought the pair that were the best value and that I now realise offered the opposite support my feet need! Next time I will make sure not to change them in the middle of a race training schedule so I will have more confidence to try different ones.

Also doing my 17 miles on the route tomorrow. My run will take in miles 11 - 21 of the route, from Dolphins Barn/Crumlin Road to the bottom of Fosters Avenue.

Downloading an audio book at the moment as was suggested to me here before. Will be interested to see if this makes the time go by easier.......

Well turns out my hilly socks are not so magic after all....have two toenails ready to fall off today

Life Cycle of the Toenailus Runneris*

Lives a happy, peaceful life for 30 odd years until....

    EUREKA MOMENT

    Marathon training begins.....

Subjected to unpleasant and unnatural stresses and strains

One day in the middle of a strenuous training session....

    Peripheral Cyanosis, Oxygen Deprivation....

Changes to a deep purple/black colour....

    The beginning of the end

Toenailus Runneris will never be the same....

Resigned to its fate it dies a noble death and falls gracefully from the foot of said marathoner

    ***Cue violin music***

Terrible fifteen mile run today. My little one is sick and had me up a lot last night so was tired anyway. Just couldn't get into my stride. Shuffled along and walked last three miles. Very disheartened. Think the heat worn me out too. Had great runs during the week so hopefully just a once off. Also will have to download a book or listen to nothing as suggested. Music drove me mad by the end of run/walk.:'(

Hi Dechol I had a similar experience with the heat this morning too, I downloaded an audio book last night Anna Karenina and listened to it this morning, it did help but I found it difficult to keep up with all the Russian surnames for a few chapters ;) Might pick something a bit lighter for next weeks LSR!

Up and out early this morning at 8.15, did 5 1/2 miles on my own, then met lads from the club and did another 8 with them and then jogged home by myself.

15 miles done, last 2 miles were sore on my knees but happy to get it done and felt good. Even kept the pace at about 9.15 right the way through to end

Hi all, Newbie to this thread .
Just a question if anyone can help. Does anyone suffer from dizziness after there LSRs or is is just myself . Did my 15 mile today and the run itself was fine but later on in the day started feeling quite dizzy and confused and I was in work which was not good. I had the same after my 13 mile LSR last week .Its just a bit worrying or is it something that i should just expect to happen .
    Thankful for any replies.

I just wanted to echo what a lot of other posters have been saying this week re keeping the faith...

I had a terrible week last week. It started out with the 10mile Frank Duffy run which I didn't particulary enjoy - I think it was a combination of humidity, tiredness and maybe mental reaction to reaching half way mark last week. Was exhausted, lost my motivation and a bit of heart. Decided to take a step back and listen to my body... Instead of gearing up my usual Tuesday morning run, I went out on Monday night for a couple of glasses of wine and a catch up with friends and then changed up my Tues, Wed and Thursday runs -different routes, different times. Caught up on a lot of sleep, drank a lot of water and geared my self up for the LSR at the weekend. I was a bit nervous going out this morning - 15 miles, longest to date. But I have to say I really enjoyed it. Ringsend to Sandycove.... Blue skies, blue sea, light breeze - it wasn't a walk in the park but it was do-able. When I got back home, the sense of achievement when I finished was amazing. That is what it is all about. I'm sure its not the last bad day/week that I will have - but have to hold on to that feeling and remember we can all do this....

you might have been dehydrated - particulary with the heat...did you drink much water while you were out?

Thanks for the reply Lola and congrats on your run this morning as you said it is a great feeling when everything comes together . !
Today I had 500 ml of water and 500 ml of powerade for 15 miles so I am not sure maybe it is not enough . I didnt find it too warm though was out at 7.30 and it was quite cool then .

    Hi All,

A long shot, but did anyone lose a 'FuelBelt' water bottle today on Conyngham Road near the junction with the South Circular Road? I picked it up and couldn't see a logical place to leave it where it wouldn't get kicked onto the road.

This was around 11am or so.

The Phoenix Park was crawling with runners today...great to see.

It doesn't necessarily have to be warm to become dehydrated. It sounds like the effects from dehydration did you continue to stay hydrated after your run and during the day.

Interesting cos I'm running with the Nimbus 13 now! Got gait analysis last yr and recommended the Nimbus 12 so when needed new one's in April I picked up these (at the time didn't realise was different number.... :o). Haven't noticed any problems with them luckily but just think this highlights need for proper analysis before buying as everyone different..

Oh - tip, Asics shop in Kildare Village outlet has great deal., You mention €165 for the nimbus 13, I only paid about €80 back in April...They cnat give same level of expert advice but once you know what runners you want can save a bit of money
