Shouldn't you be turning the other cheek and forgiving him?

Is anyone else just disgusted by people that say they are Catholic? There are so many sick minded people in that organisation that anyone that calls themselves a Roman Catholic just turns my stomach. How could anyone support what has been done. In my eyes anyone that says they are Catholic is saying that paedophilia is acceptable because it clearly wasn't enough to turn them away. The organisation of the Roman Catholic Church has so many corrupt representatives that I would consider anyone that could stand by them a sick minded person. There are many other good Christian religions that basically believe the same thing and that don't have the same history of paedophile rings, child porn, and physical abuse. Why would anyone be a Catholic?

With all the shyte that has happened in this thread I forgot to respond to the OP.

No I'm not. The Catholic Church has done unspeakable things in the past, and will probably do unspeakable things in the future. But, just like some atheist groups did terrible things in past when we call ourselves atheists we have nothing to do with them. When a Catholic calls themselves a Catholic it's because they believe in Catholic doctrine. Some of them, themselves, are horrified by their own Church but that doesn't mean they should stop calling themselves Catholics. If they believe in the doctrine then it shouldn't matter how much scandal their church gets embroiled in. It ultimately has little to do with their faith in God and Jesus Christ. A person is Catholic because they believe in Catholicism just like you are an atheist because you don't believe in God. That's why and that's why I'm not in the one bit disgusted by someone who stands by their beliefs.

Exactly... To our faith is a faith passed from generation to generation. The sins of those who did not live their faith does not mean the faith is wrong. You can't be disgusted by Catholics... You might be disgusted by a person who calls themselves catholic..

I suppose from this my outlook has actually changed slightly.

I feel for someone who believes in the religion but doesn't support the church Christian would be a better title for them but a good few people either don't realise or don't agree with that. To both myself and to the RCC someone saying "I am Catholic" means they support the church as well as what it has and will do. There are some people who aren't homophobic, who don't want to control the schools, and may even support abortion, I think for them Christian is also a better title.

So for those people who are just normal people I suppose there not bad people at all, they just don't look too seriously into religion. I probably shouldn't say anything bad about them at all other than that I feel they may be slightly ignorant. But for anyone who says they support the RCC and it's actions I still feel they are truly sick people.

I don't think you understood my post and maybe I phrased it badly. I'm not saying the average goes to church and tries to be a good person type Catholic is sick. I'm saying that someone that supports the actions of the RCC and how they have dealt with its problems (i.e. Child Abuse, Moving priests around to dodge the law, refusing to apologise or compensate victims, hoarding billions in gold) is sick. If you think that the RCC has done a good job dealing with all those issues there has to be something wrong with you because they clearly haven't dealt with them at all.

What are you saying? That you hate Catholics and you're proud to say it straight out? Or that you hate Catholics and you're slightly sheepish about admitting it?

By the way, I don't think it would matter to the average Catholic whether someone who hates them is loud and proud about the fact or not. Just saying, like.

I'm saying I hate the Catholics that would support certain priest after what they have done and would defend the cover-ups and things like that. But its not really because of them being Catholic its if they defend the bad priests. If hate any German that said Hitler was a good person. So I would hate any Catholic that would say a pedo priest is a good person and yes I have heard it before.

Does that mean that anyone who calls themselves a Catholic does turn your stomach or doesn't turn your stomach?

They don't, unless they would still support certain priests after what happened.

I have no issue with someone calling themselves a catholic. However if you are one of the few for whom that means you match your beliefs with the dogma of the Roman Catholic Church, then I'd rather not talk to you.

Similar to me if you thought the KKK is neato.

I could go through the list of crimes committed by the church in the past 20 years but if you don't already know what kind of criminals these people are then you'll likely never change your mind.

ok, Here is one for you...

Why does anyone proclaim to be german? .. i mean the nazis, the holocaust, the evil acts against mankind. Sick bastards right?

What about someone being american? ... they dropped the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima. Killing innocent men, women and children. Sick bastards right?

Or maybe you think thats different. Why is that? because you are not tarnishing them with the same brush? But are with Catholics

That's not what you said in your OP. Still, we live and learn, eh?

The fact that we're atheists doesn't confer any additional moral authority on us when dealing with issues like child sexual abuse. I suppose we can, if we want, get all smug about it because we didn't cause the problem and them Catholics did. But I'm not sure how that helps. It might give us the illusion of moral superiority - but as far as child sexual abuse goes we could get the same illusion by being Muslims or Protestants.

To both of yous I've explained that I've changed my opinion, what originally sickened me was a Catholic person that said that a pedo priest deserved a second chance at being a priest and it was right that he was moved to a new parish and nothing else was done to him. Which I think is completely wrong. If a priest was once a pedo, maybe he can say sorry, and still finish off with a clean slate and not go to hell, but he should never be a priest again. After that happened I tarred everyone with the same brush.

    On the subject ...

I honestly laugh at people, and think they must be slow in the head, when they lash out about religions ...

The problem in this world is PEOPLE!
Dont matter if a person is Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist, etc etc. Certain people in this world are just flat out evil or cruel. But, its easier to slap their "religious beliefs" attached to their actions I guess?

See these priests messing with kids? f**king scum bags. Should be shot  But you know what, do these sick catholic prists repersent all catholics? if thats the case why dont we hate Thailand? and anyone that comes from it? ... they've got some sick kid sex trade over there

    Are you 10 years old?

Willy Wonka's age remains a closely guarded secret. One would suspect though that he was over 30 even if it at times it did seem like he was ten years of age.

Ah, now I think you are equivocating me with Willy Wonka. While I am flattered by such a compliment I can assure you I am not Willy Wonka. (Or at least my brain tells me I'm not but then again I can never know for certain can I? Unless of course you are Willy Wonka! Are you Willy Wonka? )

You know with that winking I thought there was some kind of subtle hint or underlying message and that got my hopes up. So I just checked and he's not Willy Wonka.:(

You have to give it to the OP, this thread has been a marvellous piece of trolling.

If he were to chose any topic other than religion, he would be the subject of an online manhunt, i.e if he came on to say he hated gays/ blacks/ any other group bar Catholics this probably would have been locked and a ban would have been issued, touche on the subtlety.

I'm still trying to determine if your posts are showing an undeniable sense of stupidity or self righteousness, probably both. It's your demeaning tone and the way you suggest that each and every Catholic is both a) stupid and b)supportive of paedophilia that does nothing to help the negativity toward Atheists that I have encountered.

I'm Catholic (believe it or not I don't get any satisfaction hearing of the people who have been abused by priests, though every Catholic does going by your highly intelligent theory) and have no problem with Atheists or any member of any religion, but I must say that a really strong hatred of mine is members of one religion trying to assert themselves over individuals of another, trying to demean them in such a way that depicts them as being less intelligent or even downright silly. That's not on. Part of religion and religious beliefs should be having respect for other peoples' beliefs and opinions, something that you obviously lack.

Okie doke. So your reply has nothing to do with my point fair enough.

Might as well respond in kind.

What many Catholics don't realise is that it is the Churches stance that all Catholics support everything that has gone on or at least how it was dealt with. This is one of the teachings of the RCC. If you say you are a Catholic you are declaring you believe the teachings of the RCC and its not just the ones you like, its all of them. And if one of the teachings is that all the Catholics support the actions of all the priest therefore if you are Catholic you agree that paedophilia.

But then I realised that 99% of Catholics don't know enough about their religion or practice enough of it for this to fairly apply to them.
