Hodgson has never achieved anywhere where anything was expected of who he was managing. that's just fact.

    :confused::o

One of Benitez, Van Gaal, Capello, AVB or Pellegrini. Undecided on Martinez, definitely has potential but could be too early for him

Hodgson dominated Swedish football in the late 80s! by no means an easy feat!

As this thread is about Kenny, I've never seen a man so out of his depth before.

He had a chance to make Liverpool a real force in world football but instead he sent Liverpool backwards for at least 3-5 season!

Take out the runners up and personal awards and you have a few swedish leagues, pat fenlons record would stand up to that :P

and now he has the england job, yep, thats about his level

Fair enough. I just find it weird that you wouldnt at least afford them some time.

My view would probably be different though if it was my club involved

If you know someone isn't up to it before he gets the job, why give them time?

It's like giving time to Ali Dia at Southampton - no, he was out of his depth, he shouldn't have got the job in the first place.

he was given 15 months, the club were 4 points off the relegation zone when he took over

Yeah fair point. Im just not sure how you can say it about Lambert/Martinez who have never been in the big jobs before. Understand it if its for Hodgson and people have seen he's not really done it before in his career.

After how the man handled certain situations this year, he doesn't deserve one inch of respect. Good riddance to him.

Its funny because a mate text me the Dalglish news earlier and straight away suggested that he feels the Suarez incident could of swung it.

When an owner has to demand that a manager and player apologise for the players actions, you know that they are hanging on a thread . . Might not of been the only reason, but the way the owners intervened in that scenario suggests it certainly had some baring on the decision . .

You're massively understating Rodgers here. Martinez may have put Swansea in the direction that they are in now, but I don't think there is much of a hope that he'd have taken them to where Rodgers currently has them. Rodgers is the better manager for definite.

No I'm not. Martinez took over a team in League 1 with no real potential at the time. He introduced the passing style game that they are now being respected for. He won League 1 on his first attempt and continued to build with great cup performances. His work drew the attention of several clubs including Celtic and Wigan. He was ambitious and wanted to keep building at Swansea but they started to cash in on the players that were progressing under him. He leaves because of this. Sousa comes in and continues the style the Martinez has introduced and builds on it. In comes Brendan Rodgers afterwards and is there for the final step. He was lucky to have made the playoffs in the end last year after an abmissmal run of form. Only for other teams, including Cardiff to drop form allowed Swansea to secure a place.

Martinez went on to keep a struggling Wigan side in the premiership for 3 years.

To me, Martinez is a far better manager than Rodgers, he was the one who put the foundations down and the hard work that has got Swansea where they are. If he was left in charge, he would have been in the premiership with them before this year.

He also wanted rid of Agger.

    The man was clueless.
That wasn't the craziest idea in the world at the time given his injury history.
Iirc there was a few on here that wouldn't have minded too much back then either.

But Kenny spent 100+ Million and had 8 of the players available that played and beat Real madrid 5-0 on aggregate when he signed.

And about 10 points from there now.

    100 million later.

    Henry had no choice.

Hope the appointment goes better than the new man at the Boston Red Sox.

He has been a disaster in the first month of major league baseball this year.

    Damn hard choice to make!

Dont want Brendan Rodgers to get the job.

THe other thing to think of was that it is prob best for Kenny to leave now. Because in fairness you couldn't argue his love for the club, and if he kept going like he was he was heading straight for a heart attack.

and he finished far higher in the league, won a cup and got to the final of another.

he brought in Poulsen and Konchesky, and wanted to marginalise Lucas.

    you're the one who hasn't a clue.

LOL. Konchesky and Poulsen combined fees £4.5 million.

Henderson, Downing, Carroll....... get a calculator out!!

As for Rafa ....here's a list of dud signings.

    Robbie Keane
    Ryan Babel
    Albert Riera
    Andrea Dossena
    Jermaine Pennant
    Mohammed Sissoko
    Fernando Morientes
    Diego Cavalieri
    Alvaro Arbeloa
    David Ngog
    Scott Carson
    Andriy Voronin
    Dani Pacheco
    Damien Plessis
    Charles Itandje
    Philipp Degen
    Fabio Aurelio
    Jan Kromkamp
    Boudewijn Zenden
    Mauricio Pellegrino
    Emiliano Insua
    Antonio Nunez

Every manager makes poor signings. Nobody has a 100% hit or miss ratio in the transfer market. Roy/Kenny/Rafa all had varying budgets, varying constraints with owners. Of the 3, delivering value for money it would be 1. Rafa 2. Roy 3. Kenny

I agreed with Kenny's handling of that.
His loyalty was to his player.
Evra is a big boy now.
Fergie took advantage and Kenny saw this.
It's among the Glaswegians you see!

Why would he go there? Serious question

It's doubtful given the work involved, but if the owners agreed to back him financially, it could be an oppurtunity to make him a Legend in the game. It could attract his ego.

Already pretty much a legend. No way he's going near a club like Liverpool.

I think he would look at the situation and not fancy the challenge. No CL this season, probably need a squad overhaul and look at the clubs around him.

Plus, he has unfinished business with Madrid.

They would be doing ridiculously well to get him.

At the time, I may be wrong...
As for Rafa ....here's a list of dud signings.

    Robbie Keane
    Ryan Babel
    Albert Riera
    Andrea Dossena squad

    Diego Cavalieri who?
    Alvaro Arbeloa
    David Ngog
    Scott Carson squad
    Andriy Voronin squad
    Dani Pacheco squad
    Damien Plessis squad
    Charles Itandje squad
    Philipp Degen physio table
    Fabio Aurelio physio table
    Jan Kromkamp squad
    Boudewijn Zenden
    Mauricio Pellegrino dud?
    Emiliano Insua
    Antonio Nunez squad

Squad players can be duds. Your consistent first teamers cannot. I'd argue a few of those above too, especially Sissoko.

United catching City be the big challenge for him when Fergie goes.

they need to lose all this history, tradition, and 11th men crap if they are to go anywhere, only a few of the players would even make any top side in Europe.

they are no better than Everton at the moment tbh.

The vast majority of Swansea's Premiership players were signed after Martinez's exit. That can't be ignored. If Martinez or Sousa had been able to do the same they might be looking at the sort of rewards Rodgers has been too.

To suggest Martinez taught (directly or indirectly) Rodgers a philosophy of football would be silly. Of course it helped Rodgers that the previous managers had used a similar style of football for continuity, but Rodgers really put his own stamp on Swansea (that Martinez certainly has not achieved at Wigan) and signed the right players to be effective.
