I thought they might have waited another half an hour until it was actually dark...

The Stunning will be on tomorrow night. They will be good, I'd say.

How is today going? Hope it's going well.

I never got around to going into the docks at all, all week except for Tuesday night. I may after all be able to go in on Saturday but doubt I'll be able to make it in for 11am and the in port racing. Such a shame. Will hopefully get a chance to wander about for a while and then see Sharon Shannon.

    Anything good happening for Sunday?

Did you all see the front picture of the Galway Advertiser? Taken Tuesday night of the saw doctors concert. Holy fcuk - did you see the crowd? The crowds coming out is something to be very proud of and hooefully will stand to us in the future at getting the VOR back again to Galway.

Kicking myself that I couldn't get into Thin Lizzy Monday night. Watched a you tube clip of them. Also disappointed that I didn't go in Monday night to greet the boats (damn work).

When will the boats be leaving Galway? Will there be a send off?

I'll be up in Galway for all of Saturday and Sunday. Is there anything going on those days/nights that you'd recommend checking out? :D

Seems like the sailors are having a good time. Music pounding away at the Global Arena, and it's nearly 1.30. :')

Also, Nationwide did a show about the Volvo. It was aired yesterday. It's up on RTE Player now. http://www.rte.ie/player/#!v=10036931

Short article about the Volvo on The Journal. http://www.thejournal.ie/taoiseach-galway-went-global-this-week-with-volvo-ocean-race-511741-Jul2012/

Edit: Volvo posted a short video talking about and praising Galway. http://youtu.be/2w4UjWOwuL8

Thank you ilovesleep and rickwellwood for your comments. Unfortunately that'll be it for this time round, I'm heading to England for a big airshow today. Shame the 2 events clashed. Been an incredible few days, so roll on 2015, if we get it ! :)

There's also the silent disco outside Roisin Dubh on Domnick Street with up to 2,000 headsets available. It's part of the Street Party.

I'm heading in this evening with my camera, had the big wheel with setting sun shot in my mind- cool shot Vulcan.

I'll post up some photos over the weekend.

Altan were fantastic last night. De Danann before them. Big crowds once again. Great atmosphere. Loads of great buskers at various turns and twists of the way from my car to the docks.

There's something for everyone at the Volvo Ocean Race festivities.

Might pop in to the Stunning tonight. Certainly plan on making it to Sharon Shannon tomorrow night.

    Bliss.:D

so what a bit of noise from a crowd of thousands of people spending money in the city and creating a bit of an atmosphere,I seriously cannot believe some posters here moaning about noise when they can't see the bigger picture.
This is like watching whiny kids throw their carrots off their plates. You know what wouldn't have stopped thousands of people spending money in the city and creating a bit of an atmosphere? Turning it down a bit. People like you wouldn't have known any better and people like me wouldn't have cared.

    Instead, here we are.

(For the record, the fireworks started right on cue at 10:45pm, and lasted for 7-8 minutes. The band that was playing finished about 1/2 way thru the fireworks. I was annoyed 'cos I though they should have shut up earlier and the PA played the synchro. soundtrack. So don't let's have any of this 11pm nonsense. And yes, I did check my watch.)
Its at times like this that I despair for humanity.

Discover Ireland In Port Race: Saturday, July 7 - 13:00 (12:00 UTC) according to the official VOR website (it even has a countdown clock!) :)

Some nice positive reactions to Galway, to counteract the nay-sayers...

And interviews with the Irish lads in the race

    Damian Foxall

    and Justin Slattery

Perhaps a hint of an Irish boat in the next race from Justin ?

With the advent of strict one design boats for the next race, it will be sailing skill not the size of the pocketbooks that counts.

    :)
