I'd say Cork Airports record is likely to have been broken today.
Up to 20.2C in Cork City anyway, a new max for the year.

Best day of the week in Waterford, max of 20.6c.
We were only getting 16c when Belmullet was hitting 22c earlier this week.
    Belmullet only 11c in 3 P.M reports!

Part of the reason for the large diurnal variation has been the dry terrain, which here in the east anyway is cracked and dusty. Soil moisture deficits are running up to 20 mm.

This lack of moisture allows the sun to acheive its maximum heating potential during the day, peaking at around 900 W/m², but it also allows the soil to lose its heat quickly at night under the brilliantly clear skies. Casement and Dublin Airport both reported ground frosts this week, with grass minima running several degrees below zero.

Brrrrrrrrrrr! northern wind + overcast skies, the odd hint it could thin and break but I don't think it will.
