I know this is a long shot but sure I'll ask anyway there is one more small part I need to get before I can start her up it's the woodruff key that goes between the flywheel and the crankshaft part number 120395 if anyone has one or knows where to get one that would be a great help :D
    Thanks

Thanks for the offer, it has to be the exact same part as it's an odd shape that the groove in the shaft is cut at also it's imperial. If I'm stuck I might take you up on that and see if I can grind one down to fit.
    Thanks again :)

That looks fantastic, super job. Shame your missing the woodruff key. Hope one turns up for you. No doubt you'll find some way of getting her started.

Oh my word? Surely that's a mistake, might be worth an email to see if there is an alternative method of delivery available. Hopefully one will come up closer to home. Was the woodruff key missing from the start of the restoration or was it damaged beyond repair?

This link might be worth a shot, could it be possible that the same woodruff key was used on a ride on lawnmower? Has the same number, well it has a different number that replaces the 120395, lawnboy607199.

    http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=lawn_boy&mn=9300%2C+30%22+Rider%2C+1968+(SN+800000001-899999999)&dn=E008015-80150061-00019

Only $1.98 (wonder what the postage will be on that?)

Thanks for that I think it is the same one evinrude did make a lawnmower called "lawn-boy"

Hey Fergal, bit late probably, knowing your propensity for getting things done! but I came across these keys today when rooting for something else and if your still stuck for a woodruff key for the Evinrude, I would be happy to post the lot up to you to see if one fits.
I'll be up that way in a few weeks and could use the excuse of collecting them too have a gander at the Crackerbox!

    Thanks fergal, I didn't really doubt ya:D

The in(out)laws are from Rush, so not too far away from you.
Next time I'm Up from Waterford I'll give you a call as I'd love to see the new boat and Sean Nos, and of course, the Fast Twin!
Also I may soon need that engine stand for my Searay 190 re-engine project.

    Mark.

No problem, hopefully I won't need the stand for a while.

As if I haven't enough on my plate I am going to restore this little baby :D

    DSCN9114.jpg

I started off doing a compression test and one cylinder was very low not a good start As it had been sitting in a barn for the last 30 years I decided to put a bit of WD40 in and let it sit over night hoping it was just stuck rings. I did the test again and was getting 125 psi on each :)

I had a look at the gear oil and of course it was half full of water:grrr: it had been sitting for so long it looked like you could drink the water if you held your nose :D

    2012-02-28121733.jpg

Next I took off the air breather to have a look at the carb  It looks like some sort of spider lived in here, what a mess.

    2012-02-28103737.jpg

Even the carb was full of spider **** or what looks like sawdust.

    2012-02-28101953.jpg

Can things get worse, O yes they can. I checked for a spark and guess what...........none so out with the harmonic balancer and off with the flywheel.

    2012-02-28154101.jpg

    think I found the problem.

    2012-02-28154137.jpg

    2012-02-28155922.jpg

Parts ordered carb rebuild kit, coils, condensers and points I also want to change it to a standard fuel tank from a pressurised one so I ordered a mikuni pulse pump the plan is to get the engine to run before I decide to carry on with the rest of the rebuild.

Hi there great info. I have the same engine in similar condition. Where did you order your parts from?

    Thx., Tim CANADA

Most of the engine parts you can still get from your local marine shop I used http://www.marineparts.ie/ for other parts, paint and decals I used http://www.nymarine.ca/ and a bit of shoping on ebay :D

Great job. I'm thinking of doing something similar on an evinrude 4 HP. Where did you get the parts?

    What year is your engine.

Just stumbled upon this thread. Had one of those engines years ago - was 3.5 HP, I think. It's now on the bottom of Lough Derg. It was on the back of a sailing dinghy and we capsized. The engine fell off and my son caught it between his knees and attempted to hold on to it! "I've got the engine dad," he spluttered as the weight of it started to drag him under. Needless to say I told him to drop it which, thankfully, he did. We quicky righted the boat and sailed on.

More recently - 2 years ago I think - gave away two Evinrude 4 hps (successor to the Fastwin) which needed some overhaul, plus the remains of another which had been cannabilised for spares. They went to someone on Jumbletown. Pity I didn't know about you at the time. I'm sure you'd have put them to good use. Every now and then find some bit or another from those engines which escaped from the box of spares and bits and peices I gave with them. Usually I toss them out but in future I'll save them.
