2 great shots in there. McIlroy had to produce and pulled it off!

Yeah, 2 brilliant drives there, and Rory very close with his eagle chance.

Sang Moon Bae holds off Senden to set up a q/f against McIlory.

Dangerous game for the future world number 1 when he is not playing his best. A good start vital here fro Rory.

    Westwood deserves it....

An amazing golfer tee to green.. i havn't seen a player near him in 10 years..

if he could putt he would be unstoppable........

    He's a great putter.

Its just hard to hole them all when you're never outside of 10 feet..

    Great swing too.

Hope he wins a major this year, he'll never be considered truly great until he breaks his duck...

Pity he chokes when the majors are at stake......he is a bit suspect with chipping around the green, i watched him weeks ago in the final round and he played two very bad chip shots that cost him the win imo, i find it hard to see him win a major unless its handed to him .

You must be watching a different Lee Westwood to the rest of us.

    Putting stats for 2011:

    Putts between 5 and 10 feet 50.68% ranked 170th

    Putts between 10 and 15 feet 21.678% ranked 185th

    Putts between 15 and 20 feet 17.14% ranked 136th

Drive for show and Putt for dough (Lee Trevino)

    Missing the point.

I can miss every green and chip to a gimme and make 18 putts a round.

    100% stat.

    Good putter?

Sergio was near the top of the putting stats last year, yet most on here still think he's awful. Boards.

If you're suggesting that your average putts per hole is 1 under that scenario - I don't think so. Average putts per hole are measured only for holes that are hit in regulation by the stat gatherers.

You memory of Garcia for 2011 is a little flawed according to the stats.

    Garcia Putting stats for 2011:

    Putts between 5 and 10 feet 48.42% ranked 181th

    Putts between 10 and 15 feet 34.38% ranked 17th

    Putts between 15 and 20 feet 16.88% ranked 142nd

He's certainly better at 10-15 feet but inside 10 feet he's still shocking.

Now compare Stricker's stats (I think we would all agree that he's a good putter)

    Stricker Putting stats for 2011:

    Putts between 5 and 10 feet 64.22% ranked 4th

    Putts between 10 and 15 feet 38.73% ranked 2nd

    Putts between 15 and 20 feet 23.23% ranked 19th

If you still think the stats lie then so be it but "Lee Westwood" and "a good putter" in the same sentence is laughable

Rory into the semi's, a 3&2 win against Bae.

Will most likely be against Westwood.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,067 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

    Westwood takes out Laird.

Should be a great semi final match, Horizon against Chubby.

All American for the other semi, M Wilson against H Mahan.

Pity they couldnt have met in the final, a new world number 1 shootout!

Typical commentary .... Yank & GB will meet in final.
If Rory loses to Westwood he will suddenly become an Irishman

Ah sure, ive become immune to that s.hite at this stage.
The rest of the world knows what they are like and that hes Irish, so thats good enough for me:D

Mahan v Westwood final I think.

Rory will play more great shots than Lee but Lee will make less mistakes I reckon. If Rory can get round without a bogey he could do it.

What a match in store though. The 2 best players in the world by some distance IMO, just a shame it's not the final.

Some suggestions in the press this morning that Westwood & Mcilroy are not as "pally" as the used to be following Mcilroys decision to leave Chubby... Can't wait for this match today, what time does it throw in?

they don't chat on twitter anymore so I say there is some truth to it. I say chubby is right up for it.

    Read this in the Telegraph
Westwood hardly exuded warmth on that theme again last night, as he admitted they did not spend much time in each other’s company. “Rory doesn’t want time with the people who manage me, and I don’t want to spend much time with the people who manage Rory,” he said.

Watching the highlights of last night at the minute - what the hell is Bruce Critchley on?

He reckons McIlroy's great when he's on form, but doesn't really have a "B-game" yet.

WTF? He is an unbelievably consistent player. He rarely wins and only occassionally blows the field away, but is almost as good as Donald when it comes to top 5s and top 10s.

    3 events this season. 3 top 5s.
