35 years service, probably started at 21 so that makes him mid-late 50's.

My uncle was a Garda, retired in 1996 aged 56, he wanted to stay on, he would have made an excellent Garda on the beat or a community Garda but he was pensioned off. His pension was near his last net wage, so a totally fit man who wanted to work was told to go and sit at home instead.

Wasters.

Funny that Joe never brings up his "relativity" argument of his when he's asked about his wages.. if we're such a "small economy at the edge of Europe" Joe, then why are you pulling a six figure sum from the State coffers?
