Last year saw Ray Kane, Paul O'Boyle and Peter Friend representing Ireland in this match; this year, a larger contingent is heading over to the Hague (leaving tomorrow afternoon) - Ray, Paul, myself and Aisling Miller shooting air rifle and Caroline O'Brien and Peter Friend shooting air pistol, with Kealan Symes acting as team manager.

There's also a team coming over from Northern Ireland (Alan, David, Robert and Hugh) shooting air pistol, so there should be a few familiar accents about the place at least, up against a fairly sizable contingent from England, Wales and Scotland, as well as from a dozen other countries (small places like Germany and Russia). 167 shooters in total, split between rifle/pistol, men/women and senior/juniors.

Live results and webcams will be up here.

Daily results should go up here and photos here.

I don't know if we'll have internet access from there or if we'll have time to use it, but if we do, I'll try to post an update or two while we're there. Wish us luck...

Kicking off tomorrow with Caroline O'Brien in action in the air pistol event at 0700 Irish time. Peter Friend's shooting air pistol after that at 0845 Irish time, Aisling Miller's on shooting air rifle at 1245 and the three lads, Mark, Ray and Paul, are on at 1445. Might even spot someone on the webcams! Live results will be available on the Intershoot website and all going to plan the software will run smoothly and we can keep up to date. Best of luck to all, hope the training day went well and we'll see how they get on over the next three days.

Training went well for all. Apparently we were on the webcams (I'm easy to spot, look for the fat bastard imitating Santa :D ) today...

Caroline had an excellent shoot, set a new personal best!

Ray Kane is currently shooting in the AR finals!

    590 in the qualifying - wow :)

Long day but a good day. Ray's 590 is a new Irish record for Men's Air Rifle, Caroline's score is a new Irish record in Women's Air Pistol, Aisling hit the MQS on her first international shoot, and Paul and I will have a better day tomorrow :D (Mind you, he hit the MQS, that's not shabby).

Early start for the rifle team tomorrow at 0845 Irish time; earlier start for Aisling over an hour earlier. Pistol to follow a bit later in the day.

    Meanwhile, some photos from today:

What happened to Stine Andersen in the final? She's not registering any shots on the live results feed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Dunno what happened to her Thirdfox, but she's not there!

Another final for Ray today, on 589, going in in seventh, tied with Denny Nikkelen. Yesterday's was good, and he finished very strongly today, so let's hope for a good final now!

And there's a tie for third place, but I think Ray held his seventh place (can't quite see the screen well from here)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Ach, no, looks like Ray slipped to eighth :(
Still. That's an Irishman in the Finals, and against the competition here, that's no small feat!
    Well done Ray!

Right, and now the team's going to pack kit away and head back to the camp for much-needed food and rest. Peter Friend and Caroline O'Brien are up to shoot this afternoon though, and Caroline found a major issue with her pistol and fixed it last night (dodgy recoil compensator) so we're hoping she'll add a point or two today - one to watch!

Ha! A fun update (been away from working wifi for a bit) - the Irish team won the bronze medal in the teams today :)

Peter Friend's doing well in the Mens Air Pistol at the moment (95 96 93 92), three points behind Mick Gault at the 40-shot mark. Given that Mick Gault has won more commonwealth medals than any athlete in any sport ever, that's no mean feat!

Team medal. Now that's nice! :) It's one thing to go out and get an individual medal, but getting a team one shows a lot more for the health of the sport here. Well done to all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Only 20 points behind the English team at that. Not to belittle them ('cos they're actually nice folks), but they've a lot of support we don't have here. And 20 points is something that Paul could nearly make up on his own, and between the three of us, it's not the hardest of pushes. In other words, we're well chuffed because it's a better result than you'd think when you put it in context.

And btw, just heard that the N.Ireland team put in a team bronze medal in men's air pistol too! Booya!

And you're joining us on shot two of the mens air rifle finals, where Ray Kane is in 7th place and has just given us all a heart attack on shot one by taking the shot with about four seconds to spare (9.0) and has just shot a 9.9 for the second shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

We need to bring a loud noisemaker for these finals (you applaud for 10s... but we need something a bit more special ;) )
    Third shot coming up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

    ...Oooo ye boyo! 10.3!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

And Ray's now caught up with 6th place with that shot I think...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Fourth shot... Boo-ya! 10.7! Loud cheering commencing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Fifth shot coming up... d'oh. 9.3 Cheering temporarily suspended :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

    Sixth shot... *sigh* 9.6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Seventh shot... GWAN YA GOOD THING! 10.3!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

    Eight shot... WHOOOO! 10.5!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Team manager now splitting his sides trying not to laugh at the reactions of the others to the cheering from the stands (apparently the GB squad isn't used to being outdone on volume when it comes to cheering :D )
