I rooted mine and installed a custom "Elegancia" rom ver 4.03 on it over the weekend. Looks nice too.

    From HTC Ireland's Facebook page:

"HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon thereafter by the HTC Sensation XL.

In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks."

If the official ICS from HTC is even half as good as the ICS ROM i'm running you'll see a huge improvement. My battery life is amazing compared to stock.

When you say amazing.. how long are you getting between charges ?

I have to charge mine every day.

I have to charge mine every day.

Averaging at least 36 hours with moderate use. I used to have to charge it every evening as soon as i got in from work(having charged it for a bit in the morning before i went out).

Doesn't sound too bad. I only started using juice defender yesterday and it has made an improvement already.
What rom are you running ? I'm using Elagancia.

    I'm on ARHD 6.2.1

Full Sense with no lag, great battery life, pretty much what i hoped the phone should've been like when i first bought it.

A little tip i pulled from XDA that might help with battery life is go into Settings>Develop Options and scroll to the bottom under Apps and limit Background Process Limit to 2 or 3. It does seem to help the battery and helps keep the phone running smooth and fast.

Delighted to hear that the Desire HD is included in this update. It's been well over a year since it was released and to still see them supporting it is an encouraging sign that HTC will support future devices for longer now, rather then the one year that older devices seemed to get

I asked on vodafone Ireland's facebook page when they expected to be rolling out the ICS update of their sensations. I was told sometime around May. That company is a joke. Guess I'm going to have to put it on myself when a proper rom is released.

They'll need a month or two to put all their crapware that you don't want onto the "official" ROM.

Looks like Sensations carriers are getting the update over the next week..
29 March 2012: Updates for HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE
For those of you with an HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE, we have some updates for you! Most European carriers will start rolling-out ICS for these devices this week. For carriers outside of Europe, we will be pushing updates over the next few weeks and will have specifics soon.

Ha.. I went away and rooted my phone and then went and got a custom ICS rom rather than wait. Then they updated my facebook query with "Oh I made a mistake on that date.. you should have the update in two weeks... :D

Downloaded the update there now (on Vodafone). Seems to feel slower and not as responsive.

    I'm having the same problem...
    Hugely annoyed.
And it's nothing like the "real" ICS because of the stupid htc sense...
I love the sensation but hate sense

Ya but not sense 4.0, sense 3.6....its like a horrible mix of gingerbread sense with the very odd bit of ICS mixed in.

    There's a Sense 3.6 preview from Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/htc-sense-3-6-preview/

Can you disable system apps? The article above said that HTC left that feature in but that networks might change that.

    Wtf

Why aren't they giving us sense 4.0?

I updated mine this morning. It took about 20 minutes and didn't lose any data.

The only downside I noticed is that now Launcher Pro won't run. It FCs every time.

I don't like HTC Sense either. It's fine but I prefer tweaking more.

I'd recommend anybody with a Sensation buys Beautiful Widgets if they like the HTC Sense type of clock & weather and then buys ADW Launcher EX. You can use this to change amount of icons that you show on your screens. On mine I've turned off icon labels and set the number of rows to 7. It looks great. This should be an option in Sense. I had a Desire HD with Sense beside a Sensation with Sense and they look nearly identical on the screen. With the bigger screen and better screen resolution it makes sense to put an extra row or two of icons on the screen if you want to.

Usability wise ICS isn't a whole lot different from the older versions.
The settings are updated and there's a few nice tweaks (like data usage limits).
    The mail app is updated.
The icons that show up at the top of the screen are updated and look a bit sharper.
The calendar widget is very nice.
I think the phone feels a bit more responsive. But that's subjective. And it may be due to the fact that I'm not using Launcher Pro anymore and have moved to ADW Ex Launcher.

Anyway the end result is I'm loving my phone even more now.

downloaded the new update today on the sensation but i lost my htc sense for facebook in the process now the picture wont show up beside the contacts in messages :( (vodafone)

are you suggesting that people remove sense from their phone, then pay for a copy of the sense experience?

My battery life seems to be worse and now i have to press the power button 3 or 4 times before the screen comes to life, not liking this update so far!

ADW Launcher is not the same as sense. I talked about resizing rows and removing icon labels.

How does that sound like the Sense experience to you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,341 ✭✭✭emo72

updated mine. i hated my phone. it had the power button problem also it kept taking screenshots when i hit the home button. its cured since the update, and its a bit faster too.i assumed these were hardware problems. happy days so far.

Edit, just did a manual update check and I think it is available! Sweet! Running off home to wifi now :)

Has anyone with a Sensation on 3 got the update yet? Thinking about unlocking the phone to get it quicker, plus then I wouldn't have all the bloatware from three.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

I'm on 3 but rooted the phone and installed custom rom instead of having to wait.

Rooting was the way to go for me. I get updates from XDA developers. Well worth doing IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 imronburgundy

I like rooting things to get most out of them, have done for ipod touch and wii, but don't think I would chance it on Phone as voids warranty. Had to send back to Three twice in the 5 months I have the phone. But just in case can you give me link to the custom rom and advise on rooting please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

    I started Here
