This car tailgated me for about 5kms ( I was doing the speed limit the whole time ) and decides to overtake into oncoming traffic on a double white line. Middle aged woman, tried intimidating me my moving to the left and right of the car filling my rear view mirrors. I wouldn't mind but there was no cars coming before that, she waits until there is oncoming traffic and then overtakes. Completely erratic driving, I was bemused more than intimidated!

If I'm not mistaken that's the road adjacent to the M3 from Dunshlaughlin towards Clonee with possibly the most ridiculous speed limit in Ireland of 60km/h. Not only has it such a low speed limit but also a 24hr bus lane which is hardly if ever used (have seen bus eireann buses in the outside lane rather than using it multiple times).

Also the road between the two roundabouts is barely 5km long so she must have been tailgaiting you prior to the roundabout where the speed limit for the previously designated N road prior to the motorway and toll is 80km/h.

The video emphasises how stupidly low speed limits for the given road conditions are dangerous.

It might be legal, but it's not right.

Cinio if that is on the Newport Rd out of Castlebar then surely you know they are not using it as it is currently still under construction with several gaps in it.

She was behind me from between Batterstown and the Trim/ Ratoath roundabout, I wasn't implying that road from the video clip was 5km long. It is a very slow speed limit on that road and I have seen the traffic corps hiding in a gateway there doing speed checks. ( Saw them nabbing someone in the bus lane there before actually https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-3Q0TlqGkk ).

Again, I wasn't going to put myself at risk of a FPN to facilitate someone else's impetuousness.

I see that regularly enough the buses not using that bus lane, I think it is because it is hard to get out and back in where the lane temporarily ends at the Kilsaran turn if traffic is heavy at the junction.

You may have also seen as you approach the roundabout the limit goes from 60 KM/H up to 80KM/H about 100 meters from the roundabout!

Vw driver overtakes cyclists (mother and son I suppose) riding in two abrests.

    1. It's understandable why mother is riding on the outside of her son on busy road, for safety reasons.
    2. But it's not understandable, why she actually rides on a busy road, while on the other side of the road, there is newly designed bike lane.
    3. Vw driver is complete idiot for overtaking them by inches. I'd say he was close to swiping them off.

Where is that particular stretch of road?

I think it's good to see parents out cycling with their children teaching them how to cycle on a busy road.
When I was growing up I had to cycle for around half a mile on the N25 to go to school.
No hard shoulders in those days. And the wind off the artics as they went by. Such a laugh we all had...

It looks like plenty of room to me. Maybe you seen it differently from your perspective.

The thing about bike lanes here. I don't use the one near my home as it was very badly done. Kerbs, tight turns and poorly maintained, whereas the verge of the road is smooth and does not destroy skinny wheels. Plus you have the rights of way as normal traffic at junctions and roundabouts. On cycle lanes you have to stop and dismount at junctions. Losing momentum when you are being powered by your legs is a pain. Literally.

But. If I had a child on tow. I would be using the cycle lane.

Westport to Louisburgh road, cyclist is a Covies member who mentors the juniors, the young lad is part of the club and is well used to been out on the road. Thats a decent wide part of the road and the VW wasn't even on the white line.
Using the footpaths is fine at a leisurely pace but not when you are clicking away at 20-25kmph as she would have been there.
I'll ask her when I see her tomorrow night but I doubt she even noticed.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was always led to believe that whether walking or cycling that you must do it against traffic in order to see what is coming.
    Am I wrong?

I don't know what the law is, but normal common practice is to walk against, and cycle with, traffic.

However, current philosophy seems to differ again and we are seeing many 'contra flow' cycle lanes being introduced ~ perhaps to precisely make cyclists look at traffic?

It looks like plenty of space, because you used the wrong perspective. On picture you showed, car is still good bit behind cyclists.
Here you have picture where car is right on the side of cyclists. You can even see lady bended to the left, probably to avoid being hit.

    Maybe then it's just me.
I always tried to ride my bike off the road (on cycle lanes, pavements, etc), as it is just too dangerous with idiot drivers passing you by few inches. I've done that all my life.

I know it's one of the widest parts of this road, but I still wouldn't call it wide.
VW wasn't even on the white line - that's true.
Well he should have been way pass the white line to safely pass the cyclists.
You can see on the picture above, that he literally nearly swept them out

See ya. It's a 24 hour bus lane on that stretch of road and I've seen people pulled for using it, so why on earth would the OP risk a fine? The other car could have used the bus lane. But you're right, of course.

In fairness, the military truck was just making the necessary space for the cyclist. I think we know who'd win if they collided.

As time goes on, I think cyclists have to have their own roadway and pay for it, themselves separately.

This is coming from nearly knocking down two of them in the week, and I do have video and it's MY fault but it's getting impossible to AVOID.

    Let's not go there.

Here's why side-path cycling (especially the wrong-way variety) is potentially way more dangerous than cycling on the (public) roadway.

Despite the title, the cyclist appears to escape without serious injury.

If a truck and a Corsa collide the truck would win aswell, and 5 people can fit into a corsa
