Agreed with the Johnson takedowns being stood up.

It was too weird. Call me a conspiracy theorist all you want but I wouldn't be surprised if the order to kill Johnson's ground and pound game came all the way from the top.

The stand ups where quick, Johnson should have copped that after the 1st time-all he had to do was be busy, in fairness he was not busy at all when in guard.

2 things would have been at play either way.
1 the missing weight so bad he was always going to have a hard time from officials even if it's subconscious

    2. The local fans where very vocal and this can affect refs decision making.

And perhaps Mergiotta was of the opinion that, with Johnson being is such a state the night before, that he'd be looking for 15 mins of lying in the guard. So he made sure it didn't happen.

when i watched it i fast forwarded the interviews, didnt know he was disqualified till i seen it on mmajunkie, just rewatched it, joe rogan is out of order, yamasaki seen blows to the back the head and warned him and there were more, he didnt get to see it 15 times in slow mo like rogan, the officials should remiain out of the spotlight and out of interviews, it will end up like football with refs getting influenced by people. I like rogan but he should not have done that, very unfair on yamasaki

I would have thought the same thing, but he broke up the clinches against the cage early as well.
Also it seems that Silva has been paid his win bonus despite being disqualified-completely undermines the refereeing...

Agree with the points on Rogan last night he was a joke. Questioning Yamazaki on live TV straight after the fight like that was way out of line. The soccer kick comments are also a bloody joke!
See when Rogan asked Belfort was Johnson disrespectful by missing weight he said yes & that he had cut 25lbs in 4days for the weigh-in!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 638 ✭✭✭pauldoo

was a great card in the end! i invited a few friends over to watch it, trying to get them into ufc so it worked out well, its the third card they've been over for, seen about 20 fights and i think 2 have gone the distance.

Aldo was class, and his celebration
Vitor was good but looked like he was gassing, rumble defo gassed

im no expert, but im going to hazard a guess that some ufc fighters are cutting too much weight.

its only a matter of time until somebody gets hurt

Rogan seems like he's losing the plot.

Last time he was claiming Lesnar won the UFC belt in the toughest manner possible.

Barry Mcguigan says in his book that when fighters cut extreme amounts of weight through dehydration etc close to a weigh-in that it leaves them more prone to a knockout. Apparently there is alot less fluid around the brain & this is not replaced straight away even after ryhydration. He thinks this is one of the reasons the Nigerian fighter Young Ali died after he went into a coma after he knocked him out in their bout.
Johnson looks like he should be fighting at light heavy weight. What the hell did he cut when he fought Dan Hardy?

ken flo is really good in the role, I really would love to see him take over from rogan, and bas ruttens from goldie :D

Thought Bonnar was good in the WEC days.

I think it's time both Goldie and Rogan left the booth.

The Strikeforce play announcer is far better than Goldberg imo.

    great card overall,

while the Johnson belfort fight might have been stood up quick i didn't have a problem with it i though the last 2 times they were separated Johnson wasn't doing much.

As for rogan i didnt see any problem with interviewing Mario. from what i have seen online i believe more people are trying to side with mario just because joe interviewed him. i remember when mir fought lesnar first time and lesner got deducted one point for shots to the back of the head i rarely saw anyone defend steves decision to take a point away and said it was a stupid call, i believe its because of joe interviewing him people are trying to defend marios decision

also when belfort fought akiama i remember belfort landing more dangerous and obvious shots to the back of the head than silva did yet mario seemed to give belfot the decision (and im a belfort fan)

i remember seeing that interview i believe belfot said it first (that it was not professional for Johnson to come in overweight) joe only followed up on what belfort said about johnsons weight cut

Back on topic, Aldo will have to fight Edgar now, be it at 145 or 155, both men have basically cleaned up their divisions, so a unification is the best option for mma in general

The Korean Zombie deserves a shot off Aldo.
Could be a good one too, can't see Aldo losing but it could go all 5 rounds.

Mir i also thought is a pretty good commentator for the future

aside from the 155 division being stacked, you can't have a unification of two weights. One would have to release their title.

That's completely standard when somebody is given a harsh decision, DQs or a split going the wrong way, when one fighter was clearly in front.

We can argue all day about ear muffs and Mohawks but at the end of the day it's very easy to find a similar finish that was not a DQ.

    Michael Schiavello in for Goldie

Bas Rutten in for Joe Rogan

    it would be incredible!

I liked Mir on the WEC broadcasts but he's a tad annoying and he gets the fighters' names wrong sometimes. I remember him constantly saying "Carlos Conduct"

Rogan is an excellent colour commentator by the way. But he's been getting very big for his boots the last couple of events.
