http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3132996 gave this one a bell, unfortunately it's only a 4-speed, but it's almost free and looks pretty clean, might suit someone. only 48k too (it's a dealer too ' I'm ringing about the car you have for sale - which one? classic trap :)

/\ - that Ax is a grand find for the outlay!

anyone going to buy a cheap punto, lay under the engine and check the front exposed side and bottom of the sump of the engine, very common they rust through. €280 new from fiat, €80 from a scrap yard....but do check. Also, the rad on them is very exposed, check for stone holes.

    right,
A cheap 4x4 suv option now, if gotten in under 2k, its a good option. Decent Pug engine in these, some had mazda units in them too, better than the curtrent one's with the renault shyte unit in them. This example looks well minded, with upgraded rims too.

LOL when you're saying that the Renault engine is "shyte" and the Mazda 2.0 diesel lump is a good option.
Have you ever had a diesel Renault?

yes, I have, and they are Shyte, soft oul' shyte.......my brother had a 07 vitara with the renault engine in it, it blew 2 turbo's and then the crank failed......he had to rebuild the engine and flog it off cheap in the end, pure scrap!
And ohhhhhhhhhhh, I was refering to the older mazda diesel unit, from the 626 and the likes, not the shyte problematic one from the 6, which like the renault one, is total shyte :D

    NCT 11/12, English reg though???
Could be just a very old picture from when they first bought it. Which asks the question, whats it like now if they won't take a picture? Needs an ignition key which i'm sure will drive the price down considerably, could be an interesting punt if it runs.

Says alloy"ed" wheels and they're hubcaps, also that says it has a sunroof and that one doesn't have one either.

imo it's probably a manky battered irish one, rather than that clean English one.

Also, a friend of mine thought he need a new ignition too, turns out the weight of his bunch of keys was pulling the key out ;)

A bit over budget but there's a bit of tax with it so combined with a small haggle it's not badly priced.

If it checked out it wouldn't be a bad buy for someone doing a fair lash of miles who doesn't want to spend money on a 50mpg car :)

    Full-10600244.jpeg

Not minty looking and 170k miles but potentially decent.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Jimdagym

That's a decent looking rover RJ

  • Registered Users Posts: 64,953 ✭✭✭✭unkel

You know that's pushing it a bit, RJ

We both like these cars but we both know that for €1.5k there's a lot of other fresher fish in the sea :D

In fairness for someone doing a fair lash of miles the would have that up at 200k miles very soon, That's big miles...especially on a Rover 75...

I agree with Unkel €1500 buys better these days. :)

Still can't make my mind up whether or not this is Bangernomics but I'll trow it anyway

    Mazda Xedos 9

    97,000 Miles, NCT 01/13, Price: € 990

The 2.5l engine only puts out 168bhp though

The asking price is €1450 :)
I'd expect that to be sold for €1200, spend €1200, do 30,000 miles in it at 50mpg and it's time to throw it away if need be.
I wouldn't reckon the seller expects €1500, hence why he's not asking it.

Out of interest, what do you mean by especially on a 75? I'm not aware of them being less able to take miles than any other comparable yoke.

Wouldn't be unheard of. BMW e36 and early e46s only put out 170 in their basic 2.5 inline 6. Mitsubishi Galant v6 2.5 only puts out 165ish iirc. Im sure there is more but i'm just working off the top of my head.

All those engines are bang on though and will give many many miles.

    Of course it is :)

Good condition, autobox, long NCT, asking price less than a grand (probably get it for €850)

If you want something rare but comfy and reliable and are not too worried about tax and fuel consumption, this is for your!

The only thing that was putting me off was the tax per BHP :)

    Nobody is perfect :D

    @keithsfleet - the BMW I6 had 170BHP from a 2.2l capacity by '01 (not 2.5l)

And even as far back as in '90, the I6 had 193BHP in the 2.5l 525i E34

You'll find the e36 came with two 2.5 units one 193bhp and the other around the 170bhp mark. Same engine was used in the very early e46's.
Not much power but had bags of torque.

After 2001 they started sucking a bit more power from the units.

Don't be so pedantic, it's just plain annoying.

I said especially on an 75 because Rover is hardly has the last word in reliability is it?

But that's what I'm asking you?
I've plenty of experience with Rovers and have found them reliable.

I'm asking you again what would be the concern with a 170k miles Rover 75 diesel?

Regarding being pedantic, as asking price of €1450 is some way away from buying for €1500 in bangernomics land. As I mentioned in my previous post I'd expect the seller to let that go for €1200, I also mentioned when I first posted the car that with some haggling it would be decent.

2002 reg diesels with fresh NCT and new tyres for under €1500 aren't out there in huge numbers.

Ok this is not the prettiest car in the world.. or the most exciting..

But.. 2 months tax, over 1 year NCT, 2.0l Diesel with respectable miles & Auto. (Admittedly alomst 20 years old, but still..!)

    Looks clean.

You'll find the e36 came with

    We're talking 5-series here ;)

Anyway, in '01 (the year of the Xedos 9 in the ad) the smallest 6-pot petrol across the BMW range was 2.2l (520i) and 170BHP and the mid size was the 2.5l (525i) with 193BHP...
