    Paint job isn't bad.

Needs four rub strips (€160 new, i have the old ones there though), a mirror casing and either more lowering on the front or raised up a bit on the back.

The steering wheel, seats and wheels secondhand value add up to more than a grand, the car itself has to be worth a few hundred :P

Standard 04 166 with NCT for €1950, reckon you'd get a lot cheaper if you went up with the cash

    For €650 its alright

Would be okay for someone looking for something relatively 'new'
Long NCT and the mileage is reasonable (85K)

I tried to buy this car this evening. Didnt go to look at it, just over the phone. I ran out of sweet wrapers at 575. He stood firm at 750. If I wasnt so stubborn then we probably could have met in the middle. Didnt want it that badly so I let it off. Maybe someone here fancies at that sorta money though!

Ah c'mon you slave driver

750 and it has about 400 in motor tax so that's a Golf GTI with a nearly new NCT for 350 and you didn't buy it?

Nah you cant look at it that way. Whats the car worth, the rest is a bonus. Not much point having all that tax (and paying for it) on a yoke thats 16 years old and might go pop in 4 weeks.

You're probably right though. It's just that I do this for a living so once a price is set in my head then thats it (I would have went to 650 but he wasn't playing ball at all) It's not often I'll get any attachment to car, its very easy for me to walk away :)

Ah ok, most of us in this thread would buy the car to use ourselves, but if you only want to sell it on for a profit (and not use it), then the tax is worth a lot less. In fact if you don't manage to sell it on before the tax expires, the tax is worth nothing at all..

Ah no, I was actually looking for something to play with for a couple of months now that the 9000 is gone ( oh how I miss that car). Its just that my day job is buying and selling cars and the logic doesnt change even if it is one to keep.

Not being funny but, how could you make a profit on this?

    He's defo right :p

If you bought it and put it on the road you'd be shelling out for 3 months tax at least, imo you should at least include that in your calcs :)

Haha I've never had much time myself for any Golf GTI Mk 3 or 4 based cars, but at this money it's cheaper than a fake carbon bonnet for a Honda Civic of the same vintage :D

Eh .... yes ...that's right. Of Course thats what I'd have done .... probably ..... maybe ...... not ;):D

if i was offered that for 600 bucks i wouldn't take it to try make a profit on it. Tax yeah, but Mk3 "GTi"'s are worthless and ten a penny worthless too.

Edit: You won't have much choice soon with the RF100 gone :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,388 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I wonder when the mk3 will turn the corner value wise, it's gonna happen eventually.
