Was holding off until results started to come in to start this thread but as good a time as any I suppose.

In terms of indoors should a busy season with the World indoors and many athletes looking to use this in build up to London as opposed to the Euros.

O Rourke pre selected for this team

Also there is a very strong DCU team heading over to Millrose Games this year for the DMR. Team made up of Gregan, English, McBrearty and Coghlan could challenge for top honours

It depends on who DCU are competing against. I wouldnt fancy them against the likes of Penn State where they have about five or six athletes running 1.46-147 along with a good number of sub fours. However, I think Providence are down for this race so it may be a re-run of the All Ireland schools a few years back, McCarthy vs Coughlan over the final mile leg. It would be good to see DCU win the thing, show up the yanks, if only it was in the garden.

Once again Fionnuala Britton has scooped an impressive victory over the cross country, this time in Edinburgh, at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country meet. She sat in for the first lap (2km) before stretching out the field over the second half of the race, and won by over 20 seconds in the end. Gemma Steele, bronze medalist at the recent Euro XC Championships took second place. Apparently she was hardly out of breath at the end of it, what a competitor:D

She is obviously boiling with confidence right now, and I'm looking forward to her upcoming races beginning next weekend in Seville, Spain and then the following weekend in Antrim, should make for exciting stuff when she's up against some of the top Africans!

Great way to start a weekend's sport on TV.

Apart from Fionnuala and Joe, there were very good runs by Sean Tobin (5th), Sarah McCormack (8th), and Laura Shaughnessy (9th). Young Clodagh O'Reilly did very well in under 17 given she has two more years in this age group.

Very decent time there alright, a 3.46 1500m at the start of January is moving! Also fine running from Ruairi Finnegan and Colin Costello.

Don't think Costello will be happy with that run.

Don't think Costello will be happy with that run.

If Costello is running 3.55 it means he is either not training full time or is nowhere near full fitness.

Hutchinson 4th in Houston Marathon in 2.35.33. Qualifies for London with nearly 90 sec to spare. Gladys Ganiel 8th in a time of 2.40.56

Excellent result and very even splits too. The trick was to keep below 6min/mile pace and after a slow opening 5k, she managed to do just that.

    Split Time mile/h
    5K 00:18:51 06:04
    10K 00:37:07 05:59
    15K 00:55:25 05:57
    20K 01:13:47 05:57
    HALF 01:17:48 05:56
    25K 01:32:05 05:56
    30K 01:50:49 05:57
    35K 02:09:03 05:56
    40K 02:27:31 05:56
    Finish 02:35:33 05:56

More importantly I think it's great to have a good news story after the weekend Irish athletics has been through and what's ahead for the next few days.

Good to see Zoe Brown consistently over 4m. Perhaps an outside bet for a spot in Helsinki?

Not Irish news, per se, but Holly Bleasdale has vaulted a stunning 4.87m in Lyons this afternoon.

Home-field advantage starting to take effect...

This is breathtaking. I'm really excited about Bleasdale this year. 4.87m to go 2nd on indoor all time and apparently still off a short run up.

Mad-Len is talking about doing a 4-min mile indoors in Nenagh on his twitter account:
Hey @irishathletics , has a Sub 4 mile ever been run in Nenagh Indoor track. How many people could we get out for a sub 4 attempt?!
Irish Athletics Supporters, would u attend a Sub 4 attempt @ Nenagh this indoor season?I'd love to just pack the place and get a party goin!!
Not sure, would probably have to be Feb 19 if it would happen. Just throwing ideas around, getting some excitement going

DElighted if somewhat surprised, felt sure he would stick with GB.
Is there a possiblility of other defectors from GB in Olympic year?

Hope Mad_Len is not getting carried away with himself. Focus should be London, not going to Nenagh and getting injured on that hard, tight track and freezing conditions. Got to cool Len.

It's Ben Reynolds, young hurdler from Northern Ireland.

The main reason he has declared for us would be due to this

Barr competing at the European Juniors? Yes, I'm certain about that too.

Correct should have said U23 indoor NR, was 8.02, assuming Reynolds still U23.
