No need for suspicion. Its cheaper.
They are getting rid of the training srgts in each district and bringing the whole class together with one tutor. Have you any idea how much these T/O's are being paid? Two in each district? And they might only have two or three students to teach. It was a waste of money. Period.

But there not just there to teach the reserves, they work in the CPD office in each district. Theres always courses going on to bring regulars members up to date on the law. All guards had to go back in and be trained up in the new drink drive laws a few months back. No reserve I know is going to give up 2 weeks unpaid to go down to the college and learn the law for 2 weeks. People have full time jobs and otheres had college so its just not pheasable to do.

Look its this simple... its 56hours training..... thats 56 hours to each training officer. Thats also 56hours less pay to each t/o!!! I am well aware that they train full time members but that is very different... thats health and safety it has to be done. Im just telling you the facts. Hes starting in february, argue about it all you want thats whats happening. You seem to be the argumentitive type... anything i say won't be good enough. You won't get into the guards with that attitude!!

i just find it a bit of an elitist attitude to presume some people should be excluded from applying just because they have not been in the reserve.[/QUOTE]

Bubblypop it doesnt matter whether your a reserve or not.. the recruitment process is still the same and no-one on an interview board is going to judge you for not having the time to do it. I only said earlier... i cant even decide whether it was the best decision for me to make - joining the reserves. but i still want to be a full time member. Just because your not one doesnt make you any lesser than anyone else.

You will find you have to be a resident of the country, to be able to apply to join either the full time force or the reserve force, if you are working abroad you wont have enough residence to apply, another thing you need to read up on me thinks.

For an organisation that is having funding slashed left, right and centre, I really dont think there going to send reserves to Templemore for 2 weeks full time to learn a very basic level of legal studies and pay for food and board. Enough of this arguing anyway, how long have you been in the reserves ais2012?

i think you will find a lot of full-time members were not living in this country when they applied, i know of many with more than 10 yrs service or so that were in different countries working when they applied, so no i dont need to read up on anything!!!

i would imagine resident and/or citizen no?

I don't want posters getting personal in here. Their is no place for it and it won't be tolerated. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and views on matters but I can assure you, nonsense or low-hits on posters won't be tolerated by anyone.

Keep it civil in here or don't bother posting.

    Thanks,

bubblypop, at the end of the day, if recruitment opened to everyone tomorrow, i would think about 200,000 would apply. Who either live in ireland or emigrated. Would someone who had emigrated come all the way back to sit the analytical reasoning test, then go home, and if successful come back and sit the interview.

ais2012, im not calling you a lier but I really dont believe that is the case. Not with the way things are going at the minute. And if someone else could clarify, that would be great. For someone who has been in the reserves as long as yourself you must see first hand the complete lack of money being given to the garda budget. Stations being closed, stations with no cars, etc

CPD is not "just health and safety" in any organisation. In order for any organisation to maintain a minimum standard of profesionalism and ethics this is a minimum requirement.
With all the proposed changes being spoken about it is easier to train locally rather than have to provide accomodation and full time staff in one central location. From a logistics point of view this is much more sensible. At most the T/O may now cover a larger area.

Like all rumours it is best to wait for actual events to unfold. At the end if the day we are volunters not the senior management.

    Enjoy

Hey, rang the college today and spoke to the reserve sergeant. I was ringing about how we go about claiming our yearly expenses and what form we need to fill in. I mentioned the 2 week legal studies debate and he says it's the first he's heard of it. He basically said were volunteering to do this, and Garda management know the commitments people have already (full time employment, full time study, etc) so its a complete no brainier really that it wouldnt happen. He also couldn't see employers or colleges being happy with people being gone for 2 weeks like that, and would imagine the college would have to pay each person an allowance to be there for that amount of time. He also said it would cost the college a lot of money it just doesn't have at the minute. (food, cleaning, heating, etc)

Phone number for the college is +353 50 435 400 if you want to ring and verify

I'm afraid ais2012 and Kerry4sam, it's just another rumour, it's not the first and won't be the last either.

Their is always a fair amount of talk going by with people. Who knows what next-week could bring though. I'm happy to just focus on the situation I am currently in at the moment and allow others work at improving or changing as they see fit down the line.

I did hear their were talks of phase2 changing though but I have also heard of more powers etc. but who knows. I don't for certain.

True that, I can see us getting more powers at some point this year with some luck. Will probably be something like a full Saturday with our training sergeant from phase 2 in order to be fully trained on them. I do think management is worried that If we arrest someone and it does go to court, they'll have to pay us an allowance to go, wait and see I guess.

Im only telling you what iv been told. He was down the start of december. Normally after phase 1 you start phase 2 straight away. He has been told he'll be down in the college in feb for two weeks. And he also said there were people in his class that it didnt suite. Also just a point to note... i applied for the resreves in 2008 and anything i ever rang the reserve office for they would not confirm or deny anything. They have to incase things change. I found out i was graduating two weeks before it. They had a provisional date but wouldnt confirm. I rang the college after it was confirmed to put my name down for a room and they said they didnt know any class was meant to be graduating at all. So take what your told with a pinch of salt because at the end of the day with the way funds are they genuinely dont know whats going ahead and whats not.
Again, all i can say is that was what he was told while he was down for phase1 and he has the time booked off work for it.
Oh and also im well aware of what CPD is, what i meant by that is its mandatory... full time members have to do whatever course theyre sent on. Im saying training reserves basic law is not a priority where funding is concerned so i can see why they'd just bring the whole class together.
