Alert over 'bad batch' of ecstasy as three need hospital treatment

    From Irish Times:
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/1215/1224309098854.html
"Drug users have been warned to beware of a “bad batch” of ecstasy after at least three people needed hospital treatment after taking suspect tablets. The consequences of taking the ecstasy could be fatal, the Health Service Executive says.

A number of people presenting with “severe symptoms” attended the emergency department of South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel last week. Three of them were suffering from severe stomach cramps, hallucinations, jaw-clenching and teeth-grinding after saying they had taken ecstasy. They have since been discharged."

I don't know about you but they sound pretty good to me.
These are the affects of taking the drug so I'm not sure how they were classified as a "bad batch". Just seems like a few newbies took a few too many.

The consequences of taking anything can be fatal. Why do people use such retarded sentences that don't mean anything. Also I know its a typo but I love the way they said "taking the ecstasy".

Teeth-grinding and jaw-clenching, well I never. I would've thought a bad batch would result in these things not happening.

3 young ones took ecstasy for the first time and freaked out, up next man drinks 8 pints and spends most of the night urinating.

I took that to mean that they were referring to the batch of ecstasy in question, rather than ecstasy in general.

There's a reason people are scabby with drugs other than scabbiness, there's always the chance someone will freak out over nothing.

Did they also try to cuddle the hospital staff for hours on end?

It really does sound like the were new to it or just took too much tbh.

No idea why it's being considered a bad batch.

Fairly typical of the "drug safety" mentality of both the government and the media in this country.

No facts or information, just a steaming pile of hysteria.

Sounds like an excellent batch to me.

Aye, there's plenty of ways of being safe enough within the current system we have, it's just hard to wade through all the crap to figure it out.

I read an article about it on a different news website and instead of saying bad batch they said particularly strong batch.pills meant to have a b printed on them.strong most definately dosnt equate to a bad batch

Sounds good, haven't done pills in ages cause they went to shyte, looks like it might be worth trying them again from the state of those tools.

Don't really see the need for them to make an "alert" over a 'bad batch'. People who buy unmarked chemicals off dodgy back street dealers and then ingest them are putting their lives at risk at all times.

or a government which forces drugs to be sold on the black market where there is no quality control, no enforcement of age restrictions and they are surprised when someone takes a few pills and doesnt feel well...

of course those who argue against ecstasy should read this..

It is a mood/mind altering drug and like Prozac works by effecting the chemical level of Serotonin in our brains, a 'neurotransmitter' naturally present in the brain which can alter our emotions.

A hearing was held to decide what permanent measures should be taken against the drug. One side argued that MDMA caused brain damage in rats, the other side claimed this might not be true for humans and that there was proof of the beneficial use of MDMA as a drug treatment in psychotherapy.

became illegal when the powers that be noticed we were having fun on it.

They went to ****e from 2010 but have been good since. It'd be harder to find a bad pill than one with MDMA these days.

The vast, vast majority of pills are not going to kill you. The very odd time, a batch comes out with something lethal like PMA in it, and in these cases users should be alerted to the situation.

Pills are always marked, by the way.

    This.

It's a non story tbh. Might as well talk about drinking for the first time and getting alcohol poisoning or some other drink related ****.

That's not even funny, I had a bit of a run in with these things called snowballs a couple of years ago. Ended up in that exact hospital...!

Before anyone asks, no it was nothing serious, the bastards just put acid into pills, kept taking them because I was getting nothing off them, fcuk I was tripping ballz ..

And where do your friends get the drugs? Unless you know who actually made the drug and how it was made it's best to assume the worst.

Actually, the vast majority of drugs can kill you. Even legal "tame" OTC drugs like Paracetamol can kill you or at the very least kill your liver. All drugs are potential poisons and as such should be treated with caution. Some with more caution than others.

Not the vast majority - all of them. Toxicology 101: anything can be fatally toxic if taken in a sufficiently high dose. I wouldn't regard paracetamol as "tame," is it quite toxic at relatively low doses, particularly when other hepatotoxic drugs like alcohol are involved. It has certainly caused more fatal overdoses than MDMA, anyway. FWIW some drugs have have such high LD50s that they can't really be considered poisons in any realistic sense.

Now, what has that got to do with my post exactly? My point was that the vast majority of pills do not contain substances like PMA which are incredibly dangerous at any dose. If pills like this are found then users should be alerted. I would not go near a stamp that is known to contain dangerous adulterants.

Funnily enough, it seems the authorities are alerting us to a particularly good batch in this instance. Cheers lads.

Yes because medical malpractice is just so funny.

This particular batch of pills does not contain MDMA.

These pills contain 2CB, a similar phenethylamine invented by Alexander Shulgin.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2CB

The effects of 2CB are very similar to a combination of MDMA and LSD.

The visuals are strong, so if some newbs thought they were taking straight MDMA they could freak out when they begin tripping balls.

    2CB. Great fun altogether.

Yeah, that would explain the severe hallucinations alright.

Rounded off last Stephen's day with a spot of 2C-B...might become a yearly tradition.

Yes because medical malpractice is just so funny.
A friend of mine had bone marrow cancer in his left leg and his oncologist recommended amputating the leg. After getting a confirming second opinion, my friend agrees to surgery.
When he wakes up, he discovers they've taken the wrong leg. He still has to undergo the amputation which the doctor volunteers to do for free.
After the second surgery, my friend sues but in this world where the most money wins, he loses his suit.
The judge ruled he didn't have a leg to stand on

I'm not by any means debating what you took and that a snowball was in fact what it was but, as far as I'm aware, the idea that either acid or heroin are added to pills is a massive urban myth that hasn't been proven.

Snowballs contained DOB (http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dob/) and although they created similar effects to acid, the pills did not contain LSD

Other chemicals like 2-CB, PMA, DXM etc etc.

Oh yeah no problem, I just used the term "acid" to refer to some sort of hallucinogen or whatever the proper term is. I actually never even looked it up, them fcukers were vicious, don't even like talking about them to be honest.

I was warped for 48hrs after them, It's rally really scary tripping like that especially when it's unplanned. The ambulance was the worse bit

Actually had a similar experience with that drug that was in the party pills in the early days, got banned soon after, can't remember the name (three letters with a Z ..?) Not getting the desired effect, way too many , two days of misery.

Anyway my days of experimentation are over. I failed, badly, It hurt .:pac:

That's one of those DOx chemicals for sure. Acid lasts nowhere near 48 hours; closer to 12.

    Snowball e's *shudders*

I remember them all to well although I wasnt as bad as some people but I did not feel right for a week or two after. Never forget that night morning in my room I actually convinced myself that I had actually lost my mind and the men in the white suits were coming. Not a good buzz at all :(

Needless to say that was the beginning of the end of my 'e' phase.

Perhaps there is another batch of mephadrone over being sold as MDMA, happens quite often to my knowledge, but by all means go crazy and mock the article, because you obviously know more than the people who work in a hospital and have studied medicine for years.

Jaw clenching, teeth grinding and stomach cramps are the effects of ecstasy and anyone could tell you that. Hardly a bad batch is it?

    BZP.

Last (non-alcohol) drugs I ever took. I didn't even drink for a year after that experience.

3 days of wanting to piss and vomit without being able to piss and vomit. Couldn't sleep either. Three days of hell.
Like having a hangover from hell without the enjoyment.

Can't believe people take that for fun.
