Can't say I care, it hasn't effected me here yet although I'm more of a lurker than a poster.

Basically Boards is a free means of chatting/debating and is a privilege rather than a right and certain rules must be obeyed.
    I'm happy enough with that.

First they came for the socialists...

very true, allowing folk to simply insult each other with impunity destroys a site as they seek to get more more and more offensive in attempt to score a hit against their opponent. Sadly it goes way beyond simply telling each other to feck off, the internet does strange things to some folks ability to behave in a reasonable manner
Yep, just look at youtube comments. They're lucky they have some videos worth watching. :) If an alien was to judge this planet on that site(and many others out there) it would conclude that most of the human race is a bunch of racist, sexist, homophobic, god bothering, very angry and blindingly uneducated onanists and windowlickers. The scary thing is how popular such sites are.

However if the same alien downloaded this site it would get a much nicer and I'd argue better overall picture of humanity. Or at least it's potential to not act like twats. This is a Good Thing tm in my humble.

I'd also agree with K-9 on "Free speech". It usually is just an excuse to say fcuk off as loudly and as ignorantly as possible. Not unlike violence it's often a go to excuse for people when their argument fails.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

To be honest, I don't think alot of people can be trusted with the whole free speech on the web. Some just use it to say the most offensive thing that comes to mind.

The amount of websites I log into reguraly have become utter racist safe-havens in past year or 2 because of their slack rules and moderations.

Go to a site which has random videos like Youtube, ebaumsworld, liveleak, etc. Look up a video of a black person committing a crime (doesn't even have to be a crime) and you'll see the pure seething vile comments.

While this site can be a bit unusual and confused in dishing out punishments (one week a joke is an infraction, the next it's funny) it doesn't really bother me alot.

..conclude that humans have a strange fascination with the female biological parent and the rapid expelling of liquid human waste as things that displease us.

    couldn't care less
I favour free speech that is not defamatory or libelous and that does not contain insults gratuitous or otherwise. Communication where possible should be respectful, considerate and polite. Integrity with a wish to highlight the issue in a sincere way is the ideal. Still within all this a sense of humor is possible ( this could prove to be quite tricky but not impossible) Great to have threads that are both thoughtful and entertaining.

You do not have Free speech on Boards
How does this make you feel ??

    ........?

Bloody awful. The facist mods in the Ladies Lounge, for instance, seem to think that "The Vagina - Evolution's Disgusting Failure" isn't something for their forum. "Where is more suitable" sez I. Oppression is what it is.

Some people seem to think boards.ie is Ireland and because they have free speech in Ireland they should have it on boards.

But then again some people are thick so what ya gonna do, eh?
