Didn't know the Insignia was based in Athlone

That Insignia is a Vauxhall (badged Opel for here) police special - http://www.vauxhall-policecars.co.uk/2010/08/2009-vauxhall-insignia-police-car.html
    - the Depot never fitted round bumper strobes nor the extra rear ones. Speaking of Depot v's manufacturer speccing up the car, could the recent fires be caused by mis-wiring extra equipment. Now that newer motors have so much electrical stuff interconnected maybe extra relays etc. are needed, and letting the maufacturer fit it shifts the blame if such a fire starts (as we know 'fitting non-approved equipment will invalidate the warranty' )

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the police spec versions of BMWs are done on a BMW production line.

Makes sense imo for the Manufacturer - or their APPROVED converter to do the work.

Might even work out cheaper too - then buying a new car - and retrofitting it here in Ireland with the bits and bobs to make it a Garda car

    Co

'Penny wise/pound foolish' MIGHT apply in the Depot
"Sure isn't ol' Mick a genius with the ol' strobes and siren, he'll find a wire there to power 'em and we'll save oodles for the 'Sthate' - wonder why them new Mondeos are going on fire so easily ?? ":rolleyes:

As I said 'Approved converter' is the gold standard from the manufacturer - NOTHING will be admitted about botch up's from the depot or elsewhere, the taxpayer will cover the cost :o:o

What about non emergency vehicles going up in flames? Maybe the guys in the depot are expert fitters? They kitted out all the previous Ford's with no issue.

The relevant question is - are normal non emergency services Mondeos going up in flames.

I haven't heard of any issues with post 07 Mondeos going up in flames until Capris last post.

IF non Garda Mondeos are also going up in flames when they shouldn't - then that's possibly a Ford issue.

IF however its only Garda Mondeos that are going up in flames then there is merit in looking at the standard of the work done in the conversion.

Unfortunately if the people doing the conversion work on Garda Mondeos are NOT approved converters for Ford (approved meaning approved by Ford themselves to do the work) - then Ford will try imo to focus on the conversion as been the issue - if they can at all.

If however the converter is approved by Ford themselves - then Ford and their approved converter will have to sort it out.

Maybe them "fancy" BMWs from the factory with all the bells and whistles - don't look so expensive after all

So far it's one car from AGS. Who knows, there could be more.

I don't doubt the competency of the lads in the depot.

Well it's 2 at least now from the evidence but I know that every feckin thing seems interconnected electrically on modern cars.

Two of my personal cars had issues that way -
    i) dash airbag light on caused by shorted circuitboard on rear lights

ii) Auto trans locked by faulty rear brake light switch (you have to press brake pedal before selecting gear - but pedal brake light/auto trans switch unit faulty

Can customs now use blues for stopping vehicles?

    Hmm..good spot.

Interesting.. it may be an airport only effort, but they don't have legal public road use of blues - they are not an emergency service.

Only thing I can think of is down the country when they're dipping for green diesel they could use blues at checkpoint in tandem with the guards

Have to be the only country in the world where customs haven't got blue lights on their vehicles!

Is there a real reason why the haven't? At they end of the day they are law enforcement and stop vehicles/conduct checkpoints regularly!

That's the way those checkpoints should be done. Command post, computers, printers, pulse and phones on site
