Remember back in my youth, on my fzr 250..... I was pulled on a occasion or two, unmarked 2001 black mark3 Mondeo, the Garda was an absolute gent and was extremely friendly and I never forget such. He asked me loads about the bike and how I was etc etc.... He let me away too.... Let's say between 70 and 90 in a 60....

Some absolutely wonderful people out there and just wish there were more.

Brilliant, same as myself back in the day think I was about 5 days on the road into my provisional licence in my opel corsa, L plates the lot, came up to a yellow box junction, marked mondeo pulls up behind me, shat myself, light goes red and I decide to literally take about 20 years to clear the junction and nearly caused an accident , the blues came on, nicest garda I ever met, let me away with it. Never forget it.

    Very handy yolk here.

First time seeing this, has potential, here's a corporate video, looks like you can catch people with it too. I get the impression you might need half a ton of cement in the rear of the recent Hyundai fleet or you would be going for a rollover.

    Question:

Do customs/revenue cars operate with blues and headlight wig-wags?

    Question:

Do customs/revenue cars operate with blues and headlight wig-wags?

    Blue would be fitted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,300 ✭✭✭Dohvolle

    Blue would be fitted.

If fitted they would be illegal.
Yellow flashers only, white wig/wag not uncommon.

Most blues were removed back in 2018.

    Question:

Section 342 RTA was amended in 2006, they amended the wording as customs used to be blue and amber.

post 2006 now it states Amber lights only, may be used on Customs and Excise patrol vehicle in the course of its duties.

Road traffic operations they need to be accompanied by ags...
I’ve never seen them do but I believe the normally follow until the person they need speak exits the car, if it evading them that’s when they call the gards.

    Incorrect.
Customs were never blue. Blue was used by some, unofficially, and a blind eye was turned, up to recently. Earlier acts also specified Amber only, the more recent act just clarified that.
Customs cannot stop a vehicle from another vehicle, but a customs officer in uniform can stop a vehicle anywhere, no GS required. Round these parts if customs need to stop a car they seek assistance of Roads Policing.

An authorised officer of Revenue/Customs can require the driver of a vehicle to stop. There is no prohibition on the requirement being made from another vehicle. Some of the Revenue/customs vehicles have sign bars fitted to assist in same.

They either were or they weren’t here lad...
By the way, I never stated just blue....they had amber also, it is stated in the act...Blue and Amber! Post 2006 it changed, to amber only. When the amendment was in acted the road regulation change meaning they were no longer viable under blue light, plus the sounders were removed as they had a sounder also.

Customs officers when in uniform ONLY are entitled to operate checkpoints. A revenue officer is authorised under the finance act to stop any vehicle deemed of interest under the said finance act. (I never stated from another vehicle), although if operating a patrol vehicle, when both target and patrolling vehicles are stationary the revenue officer can(when in uniform) alight the patrol vehicle and direct the target to stop where necessary and safe to do so, like I said earlier if the person evades or avoids the revenue under the finance act, the revenue officer will then call or radio(if frequency allowed) for ags assist under the amended traffic act.

There was this picture of 7 Hyundai i40 estates belonging to customs on a tow truck. Would they have lights etc? Does customs use tetra?

Pulled over by a marked traffic Tuscon today, very basic inside. They do look the part though.

Yeah the i40s have the grey/clear light bar that flash amber, they use tetra since 2009 and they have they have a few channels that work in tandem with the ags.

I've been stopped by Customs in the past and enquired with a local member of AGS that I know, he told me in some respects Customs have more powers than AGS!! In the above instance I was driving a UK registered car and had outstayed my welcome :)

That escort looks smooth enough, except for the silver car that never moved when directed.

There's always at least one. They freeze when they see blue lights. Some are too busy blessing themselves when they see the ambulance to move.

Towards the end of that video, I had to turn the sound off!

Off topic, not worthy of its own thread. Checkpoint near where I live all week. Passed by it a few times. Yesterday I went by as normal, went to the local spar and bought 2 coffees for the guys on the checkpoint. The weather has been ****e all week and thought they could do with a lift. Is this a common occurance from the public or is it few and far between?

I had a cup of tea brought to me once in my 4 years on the job. Scene of a fire in -2 weather standing on a corner directing traffic and the owner of a subway came out with a cup for me. Owner was a retired D/Gda so not sure if that counts.

But it's overtime the ones out on the motorway, getting paid nicely too....

Of course I would offer if they were outside a house say or for bathroom no issues.

I get nothing at all at work.
