But then you'd have to convince Ford to convert the cars to right hand drive which they're highly unlikely to do for free or have the Gardaí trained to drive a left hand drive vehicle for pursuit.

You think we are not already paying more for having right hand drive cars? There are models only available in left hand drive and not offered here and in the UK.

I would love to see them out.

It would be good PR also and use them at events and show them off.

They probably want to keep them extremely covert, there was unmarked i40 and a marked i40 estated with M5 behind them, it then put the lights on and went out on to Liffey and went right at smauel beckett bridge.

Saw a white unmarked Audi with blues and a BMW saloon with blues coming out of the Phoeno at Parkgate Street the other day, would this be guards or some dignitary in visiting Farmeligh, US ambassador or Higgins? no other emergency vehicles, just those two which I found weird as escorts nearly always have a bike or two with them.

Something in me just wants to see them use the m5s and donuts come to mind and I mean rubber donuts!!

I drove by the four courts this morning and spotted a few old shape mondeos. A 2007 silver one stood out because it was spotless. I'd imagine it's not used for patrols anymore but who knows..

Are Merc's really suitable for the rough and thumble of policing ?

Just picturing some unfortunate driver after having a fender bender and facing some boss, imagine the repair bill, you could almost have a new i40 for that :D

Maybe we should put them into Dacia's, how many of those could you buy for a new Mercedes???:mad::mad:

Better still, why buy new? How many 2nd hand cars could they buy for the cost of a new Mercedes???:mad::mad::mad:

Lets not invest in the Garda at all and we can go back to whistles and truncheons!!!

Oh oh, seems i have upset someone, my apologies if you missed my smilie.

I am all for Gardai having the best of vehicles, but a Merc like that is more suitable for driving VIP's around.
I am only trying to be practical

The i30 has no place anywhere near the frontline. It is not an appropriate vehicle for policing. Leave it to no frontline roles.

Re what car is suitable? I don't see why Ford don't bring over the Interceptor range from the US and fit them out appropriately for the EU market.

Stick with one body for the frontline of the job, smaller engines for non main station cars, larger for main station car and bigger again for traffic units.

Leave the specialist units to pick what they deem is appropriate. Take away the decision making power from the civilian who never has to fight a prisoner into a patrol car or respond with a car that can barely deal with a pot hole never mind a speed bump.

The Army had a few US Ford F-series trucks, tho' they're not used for emergency work here. Most countries that are LHD seem to have some US cop cars on their fleet, maybe for trials.Chrysler Charger in Vietnam https://tuoitrenews.vn/news/society/20171015/nearly-800-traffic-cops-ready-for-apec-week-in-da-nang/42055.html

    Very nice!!

Earlier today, leaving aside the BMW E60 and Pajero with blues & twos was 2 fairly new black BMW F10's. 530D. Full lights and sirens, red/blue strobes in rear lights. Impressive sight.

Clearly you haven’t moved on if your replying. There is nothing in the rules about commenting on a post even if it is two weeks old but if you come across one maybe you’d enlighten me and post it. This is a forum after all not every one can reply the moment a post goes up. The thread is still open therefore nothing prohibits one posting a comment.

Harry I received a photo especially for your little response however I'm having trouble putting it on the platform using the app but when I use a laptop tomorrow I'll gladly inform you. As it's taken by the driver of the A8. 😄

It's an A8 in photo which was taken to today @1:37pm. Oh and it's the same car that responded to incident that you both seem to love bringing back up. If I've to get a photo with me in on the car I'll do that the next time I'm at the particular location. Any way, until my hours of work finish I shall upload it tomorrow, lots of love.
