Only fitted to the Avensis as they were supplied kitted out. Hyundai and Ford's kitted out in house.

ASU BMW on the N11 today at 4.45 going down the hard shoulder, had my windows open stuck in 5kph traffic, but only heard their 'warbler' siren about 1 second before he flew past, not very loud compared with the usual job.

Q7 outbound at 1.45 today at Newtown near Darndale, same story with siren . NAS Ambulance nearly deafened me a few minutes later. Based on this experience it could endanger ASU units if the combination of their speed combined with inaudible sirens meant someone pulled out into their path.....

I'd say there's some amount of damage/costs from the condition of Irish roads and speed bumps considering the amount of mileage put up by the emergency fleets

Hopefully the extremely bright led lights will make up for that.

    It is bad though.

I've contacted them about their unmarked fleet with only rear strobes in indicator lights at rear which at day or night are near impossible to see.

The LEDs are ok on the open road but if you're trying to get thru Dublin traffic and the cars 50ft in front can't hear you..... (Driving school 140 has a good siren for some reason...... I think only the Insignias have good rear LEDs, anything put in the rear lens seems to be less bright than the 21W flasher

From a 45° angle you can see the rear blues( out to the side)

Some i40 have red/blue combo on rear window inside at top at both sides which does make it much more visible.

As most drive with lights off at night you can still only faintly make out the rear blues.

The school i40 has a raised light bar not normal to the rest and yes the siren is much better on it also.

This is something that really bugs me with the fleet in AGS, why does the marked fleet not have a standard type of light / siren combination? Surely, it would reduce costs if nothing else. I understand it with unmarked vehicles but surely uniform light and siren arrangements would be benefically and safer to the fleet as a whole?

Another major issue I see is the i30 & i40 projector style dipped beams are extremely poor and also many driving around with blown lamps.

Even some that are still working they are that dim you would hardly see anything at all.

They really should be made do a walk around at each shift and check all lights, sirens, tyres and pressure etc.

Remember a performance car I owned one time, the headlights were useless over 50mph :(

MAYBE the wig-wag headlight kit affects the headlight performance, or maybe all i30/40 have bad headlights. Auto electronics these days are all linked to the central control unit and any 'modifications' might affect things

The Insignias come from the factory modified so I bet they're better:cool:

ASU Q7 leaving the airport last night in light traffic and I didn't hear the siren til after they passed me, and I was walking. Definitely not loud enough.

The vast majority of Guards don't know how to use their sirens. Keeping it on the same tone all the time is not effective.
Only the specialist units seem to know how to use the sirens functions.

Many new ones change automatically in the ambulances at least.

A friend and I seen a 06 black Audi Q7 fly through traffic on the opposite side of road in Fairview D3 and to be honest it looked very fake not to mention the amateurish driving.
The rear lights where locate in the reg plate section and the front lights in the grill. No dash master or side lamps.

Anyone else seen this before? Dublin bus driver on the 130 was also convinced it wasn't a AGS car.

Seen a black q7 before of that era alright. Dont some of the unmarked stuff now have leds strips near the reg plates ? Theres also many cars that dont use a dash light about.

Is it the same Audi contained in the post above? I know its easy to mistake an 06 with an 08. Was the light bars even the same?

A lot don't have all the lights, just the bare minimum. As for fakes, I posted before about a black Gold Wing type with white strobes, Garda badge on the windshield, and a siren, country reg. He'll overstep the mark some day with the wrong people ;)

Saw a white 171 BMW 5 series followed by a 161 Q7 in fairview yesterday. Certainly looked the part, noticible lights and distinctive loud siren.

I am 110 percent cent it was a 2006. The driver was on his own and windows weren't tinted it looked like a very ordinary car.

They have a number of them and plenty of others you wouldn't have a clue they were garda vehicles.

    Tuesday afternoon. M50 southbound.

Garda outriders, army, and traffic corps.

Escorting 3 temperature controlled artic trucks.

    Any idea what it was?

What are they? Traffic? Armed Response?
171 white BMW 5? in Cork city last Thursday full blues on. Very impressive.

Most would be armed units and some for escort duties also.

Detectives would have some also for the likes of special escorts.

It brings memories back of when I saw their 1st x5 with led clusters in front top and rear windows around 2002 or 2003 if I recall correctly.

Decent cars are needed and and i30 or i40 isn't that.

For best bang for buck, which is what it will always come down to, do people think they should have ?

Im not defending the Hyundais but within reason whats better for regular unit to have ?

The i30 does have a place imo but they should be only treated as the equivalent of a UK panda car around cities and large suburbs, not patroling national roads/motorways or vast rural areas.

The i30 has no place anywhere near the frontline. It is not an appropriate vehicle for policing. Leave it to no frontline roles.

Re what car is suitable? I don't see why Ford don't bring over the Interceptor range from the US and fit them out appropriately for the EU market.

Stick with one body for the frontline of the job, smaller engines for non main station cars, larger for main station car and bigger again for traffic units.

Leave the specialist units to pick what they deem is appropriate. Take away the decision making power from the civilian who never has to fight a prisoner into a patrol car or respond with a car that can barely deal with a pot hole never mind a speed bump.

Chances of that ever happening are next to none though tbh. At the very best if they were inclined they would modify the Mondeo to police specification and would probably still only offer a ****ty diesel.

Speaking of diesel what are the general consensus on them within AGS, particularly in regular units 6 years on since the Avensis were bought ? I'd imagine 3rd gear in the old Mondeos is still missed ? :)

But then you'd have to convince Ford to convert the cars to right hand drive which they're highly unlikely to do for free or have the Gardaí trained to drive a left hand drive vehicle for pursuit.
