Just a heads up about a gang going around in the very early mornings (5am'ish) who are leaving 'cars for cash' advertising cards under the windscreen wipers of cars. It's just a cover though as they've been caught using flashlights to examine in the insides of the cars, and have been seen checking if car doors were locked etc.

They were seen last early this morning (Jan 30th) in the Ongar Wood area. They were also seen in the Blakestown area.

Gardai are aware and are increasing patrols.

Got home tonight (Waterville) to notice several cars with cash for cars stickers on their windscreens. I have alerted our neighbourhood watch representative.

Had a dodgy caller to my door yesterday early evening. A guy asking for money for a hostel. Really weird as I live at the end of a long cul de sac just off Blanchardstown main street. I looked out the window when he was leaving and noticed he didn't knock on every door either.

The Data Protection Commissioner has instructed the founder of a website - which posts CCTV footage of criminals in the act of crimes - to remove the footage.
Robert Waters set up crimecctv.com earlier this month in an effort to raise awareness about the burgalary on his house in Killiney, Co Dublin on December 12.

I s the data commissioner aware he may be guilty of Perverting the course of justice in English, Canadian, Hong Kong, and Irish law, is a criminal offence in which someone prevents justice from being served on himself or on another party.

So where does this leave all the Crimewatch progs on TV that utilise either video or stills from cctv?

The Crimewatch programs on TV are made in cooperation with the Gardai. They're used when they've reached a dead end in an investigation or actually need the public's help. Slapping up any old cctv on the internet whenever you feel like it is nowhere near the same thing. If you did manage to identify someone that way there's no way it would hold up in court as it could be argued that anyone on the jury could have seen it and be biased against the accused. I know people get frustrated when it seems like the Gardai aren't doing anything but taking it into your own hands isn't going to get results either.

    *** Car Stolen - Help Needed ***

Between 4.15pm and 5.10pm today (Friday the 14th of February) a car was stolen in Bramblefield Park, Clonee, Dublin 15.

It is a navy blue Audi A6 saloon, registration number 04-D-77956.

The keys were not taken, and the car is thought to have been hotwired to steal it.

Its not possible to hotwire your Audi. It would have alarm and immobilizer. Sorry to hear though.

I wonder had the car been in for service, or work of some sort recently ? It's easy to clone the keys or fob given the right software - which is pretty easy to buy and install !

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭Arciphel

Yes, I talked again to the owner (it's not me) and he said the same thing, key must have been cloned. He has had the car in for work in the last few months, about 1,200Eur of work done on it just before Christmas. He thinks the only place they could have copied the key is this garage or else when he did the NCT.

Could it been have dragged up onto the back of a recovery truck? Although I dont see why you would go to that effort for a 04 A6

You'd sell one for €6k but a good condition one stripped for parts could be worth double that or more. Recovery trucks are normally only used to lift cars from car parking areas like roads at railway stations where they dont attract much attention, Id say a cloned key is the likely scenario for this poor chap.

Talking to my neighbour over the weekend, the car has been found and no external damage visible. Was found last week in a vehicle impound yard in Donabate, has to wait for the guards to square it away before he can get it back.

On another note, I see on Facebook this morning a good few people reporting things that happened last night in Littlepace. One car stolen, another attempted to be stolen (door pulled back) and someone trying to open the front door of a house just before 7am this morning. Also, somebody in Allendale came home last night and disturbed somebody who was scoping out their house/car. Be careful and continue to keep your eyes open!

Friend of mine lives in an estate in clonsilla told me of a recent robbery involving a car a few doors down from him. The front door was kicked in and the keys taken for the car and then obviously the car taken.

    Time - 4am.

Seemingly the keys were right beside the doorway so the thiefs must have been aware of this. I reckon alot of this knocking of doors and asking for sponsorship crap is just a medium to get a glance in your hallway be it through a window or the door itself if you open it.

    Just thought I'd share.

    Be safe!

There's no Littlepace one, but a few estates have their own page. If anyone has any further pages which would be of interest let me know.

I'd like to report a thief in the D15 area. Going around stealing entire posts and links! Absolutely shameful.

    Good idea Pat, will do.
In fact, the sticky threads need a good updating, so if anyone has any more links/updates just pm them to me and I'll do my homework.
That will keep help stop this thread drifting off-topic.

The stickies are for the benefit of everyone in this little D15 community so it's in everyone's interest to help keep them up to date

From facebook - Beechfield Residents Assocation
A word of advice to our friends, BEECHFIELD ESTATE was hit last night with three burglaries early this morning, the usual was taken money , phones laptops plus a family pet and car keys . Two of the burglaries were successful and the third was thwarted .

The advice we are giving our residents is make sure you set your house alarm and keep valuables out of sight and keep car keys off the hall table.

If it's a pedigree then it's common enough.
