From a point of 13 being associated with bad luck or because of the state of the economy?

I shall reserve 13-D-666 for the lulz. Should look well on a Honda 50.

    Not estate cars

Lots of housing estates ommit number 13.

I think a lot of people will not buy a car with 13 on it.

If you do buy a new one in 13, I wonder what will happen the second hand value further down the road?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Wouldn't bother me in the least anyway.

i'd have no prob with a 13C either,

now, 13D is a different matter

You'll see huge pressure and moaning from the SIMI throughout 2012 for a revision in the registration system. They won't admit it's because of the 13 issue, they'll blame it on something else, but I bet there's a definite fear among the dealers and importers that 2013 will have a fairly decent slump in sales due to people's superstition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,127 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

Nissan are running a promation where you buy new in 2012 and get a free upgrade a year later so theres a few hundred 13 reg's

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,128 ✭✭✭dellas1979

Yes, amongst other things, this is one of the reasons I traded in my car this year to get a 2012. So next trade in will be 2014. Nice even numbers. Being honest, sounds slightly mental though, considering I bought a 2010 new and never had so many problems . My 97 mazda, now that was some car...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭Tae laidir

This could be a serious issue for the Motor Trade.

Many people will postpone the purchase of a car to 2014, as it's generally a discretionary purchase. They won't admit it's superstition - but it is.

Others will be terrified that there will be fewer purchasers when they come to sell in a few years time.

Great Britain will also have this problem, from September this year. It will be interesting to watch what happens there. As usual, we'll probably wait to see how they get on.

Remember, there are some lovely dark metallic green cars out there that don't sell!

I love the way many planes don't have a row 13......because you'll be much safer in row 12 and 14 in the event of a crash!

So that rag has nothing better to write about now only fear of 2013:eek: Has'nt far to go to hit the gutter so.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The fact that 13 is on the Reg has nothing to do with chance of misfortune, vast majority of folk know that including myself.
However there are some that will not touch it with a barge pool so someone with a 13 to sell on will have a smaller buyer pool so whether you are one who believes in bad luck or not, it will have an impact on your purchase decision, why do you think hotels avoid the 13th floor or planes row 13?

Ah, they have lots of stuff more important. Go on, read it and you'll see.

Failing that you might find something about dresses, or hair, or other women's problems?

The number story is a small item, God knows why you're getting so worked up about it?

yeah i think this will have an effect! same happened to the once popular green coloured car - untill it became unlucky to own one particularly in rural areas...

triskaidekaphobia! - new word for me....learn a new thing every day on 'boards.ie'

There was a huge surge in registrations for the Millenium where people held off (or deliberately went for) the 00 plate. To this date the 00 registrations have not been surpassed.

I couldn't care much what year is on my plate (I do prefer a non-D plate, if possible)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

IIRC, if you bought a new car and the the digits had 666 in it, or 13 you could ask for the reg to be changed.

I can't remember if that was me dreaming or it's actually truth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

666 is not routinely issued. The sequence misses 666. You can buy 666 if you reserve it.

Once a number is issued it cannot be changed except by Revenue CAB officers.

Is that for the resale of seized vehicles?

I've driven a Mercedes 280SL (that once belonged to Bono) and the reg was, I think, 666 SZI.

There were loads of 666's issued pre 87. It was never a problem back then.

Don't forget the IP registration plates, I'm too young to remember but there wasn't much of a problem with the "RIP" plate...

    Registration
    06D666

    Make
    BENTLEY

    Model
    CONTINENTAL

    Description
    FLYING SPUR 04DR A

I looked through the past 12 years of XXD666 and cartell.ie seems to be missing quite a few. Odd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 388 ✭✭El.duderino

So once a registration is issued, that is final till it is scrapped?
You cannot change a reg to a different county if the said number is available?
Cars are scrapped and crashed all the time. So there must be spare numbers to change plates. Like when you import grey or classics.

2013 will be a bad year in sale.s regardless. Most people will be struggling with their bills and mortgages! It will be same market buyers as this year. Granneys in super minis and fleets.

    13 D 13
I can see the garages putting loads of rivets into regs,s to dicky up the 13 into a 18!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,626 ✭✭✭✭vectra

Buddy of mine had a Mk1 Escort reg. VMI 666

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

I'd generally have no issue with owning or driving a 13 or 666 reg, but I do think I'd think twice over buying it due to the potential for a lesser resale value.

It may just be enough to put people off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

I meant a reg with 666 in it.

    I know of a xx LK 4666.

I spotted XX- D - 666 on a Passat in the Tesco Coonagh carpark last night, custom font with "The Number of the Beasht" written below it, raised a grin!
