2011 - How was it for you?

I think we are all agreed that 2011 was a mixed year for Ireland but how was it for you personally however?

For me, it was a good year - I seemed to get to know myself much better, I achieved many of the things I set out to do and I met some lovely new people some of whom have become friends, including some of you who frequent this joint. I developed professionally and what I can old describe as semi-professionally and have been blessed that my family and friends seem to be as happy as I am.

Hopefully 2012 will be as good :)

It was the beginning of a premature mid-life crisis that will no doubt end in a rapid deterioration into hookers and cocaine.

Ah come on, lets do this in 4 weeks maybe?

    Much like every other year.

A year older, a year wiser.

I've seen many years come and go and at this stage in my life they're nothing but a date on the calender.

I remember 1968, oil prices rock bottom and I drove a beautiful Ford Mustang, guzzling fuel, not a care in the world.

You see folks, I've had the greatest years, unfortunately thing are getting worse. Reliance on technology and the internet. What ever happened to picnics in the prairies of Kansas, not a care in the world. Just me and the Earth.

Another date on the calender my friends, just a date.

2011 was pretty good for me, thanks. I was waiting for the Premiership to start on RTE2 at 2030 so I could see Arsenal's 4 goals, so I was happy enough and didn't have long to wait.

It was good. Packers went the entire year unbeaten. Stoke reached the FA cup final and qualified for the Europa League last 32. Dublin won the National Hurling league and the Football championship.

But I fell asleep and missed the last 4 weeks of it... :(

I have a thing against odd years for some reason.

Give me an 02, 04 or 08 and I'm happy

Hate odd years for some really weird reason

First 3 months were crap, then it got worse for the next 3. Went downhill after that,

I'm happy thread is it? Okay I'll play.

What you're saying is 'tell me your misery stories so I can feel even happier even though my happiness is so brittle that I must profess it on a website at 0:30 on a Sunday morning'?

Happiness is fragile. One day you're chewing on a steak with the world at your feet... then next your dead meat.

Take it from me. I've been killed in both World wars and lived to tell the tale.

The insanest roller coaster ever. It's surreal living a life where one part of it is completely perfect, and the other a never ending misery. I so often say to people I live in a purgatory, because I'm somewhere there between.

It was ****e in parts. Sometimes slept too much, more often slept too little. Going to end it well and sort my life out for 2012 :)

Not my worst year but far from the best, January to March were great but it went downhill then recovering in July and all was going smashingly until Kerry lost the All-Ireland and it was really crap until about two weeks ago so I'd say I had 7 good months out of 12!

I don't think another 4 weeks is going to change 2011 from being sh1te, in fact I'm going to predict that 2012 is also going to be sh1te.:(

    Pretty cracking year for me.

I overcame my bout of depression, graduated, moved out of home, moved to a new country, got my first proper job and I'm financially independent for the first time in my life.

A few small blips along the way but nothing to take away from it being a great year. Here's to more in 2012.

    Toughest year of my life.

    Roll on 2012.

Pretty much this for various reasons. But as someone else said, things can always get worse. We have to be very mindful of our perspective on things

2011, a year of surprises, finding out how people actually are, weeding out the shams/liars/wastes of life, finding out the truth on everything, broken up with by the love of my life, and the rest of the year spent getting over it with great nights out/gigs etc, might have a bit more to go though methinks :(
the worst/hard year ive had so far, heres to a fresh start/newness in 2012

I spent half of 2010 and up until September this year unemployed so it was a bit crappy to be honest............

Just gonna write that year off and have a better 2012 :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭sunflower27

Initially was pretty lousy.. first time ever out of work, money worries... but it has turned around. Am doing a great new internship and learning loads, have still got my great friends and healthwise am good (touch wood).

I have had up and down moments but overall I am good in the hood. :)

Worst year of my life without a doubt so I welcome 2012 cause as Gary once sang. Things can only get better. Hopefully

Mostly crapola, but with a vague mention of full time employment late next year.Returned to college and am happily surprised how well its going and I,ve a new niece too :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭Toby Take a Bow

Hmm, pretty sh*t: made redundant; unemployed for six months; took unpaid position to boost my CV.

Good points: went back to college; have more money now than I ever did in my life; no year could ever top the previous year for unbelievable sh*tness.

Decent year, kept my business open and successful. Developed myself personally and have learned how to reflect on situations and life better.
Bring on 2012: have a lot planned including setting up 2 more businesses and staying away from negative people. Onwards and upwards!

Crap. No work, no girlfriend, no money, friends deserted me, suffered from depression, failed college. F**k 2011.

Keep the head up, I felt like this for the best part of 5 years but with a little effort and one day at a time things have got much better. I learned to live life simply and it is a amazing the joy the small things can bring.
Negativity pushes people away. True friends are hard to come by.Try and see the positive.

Hope 2012 goes well for you.

Twas alright....not phenomenally great or anything but touch wood, nothing absolutely tragic or awful happened in the past 11 months. It was no 2005 though. And I fell in love and the person loves me back, which, of course, is always deadly.

It bloody flew by though at a ridiculous rate. I don't feckin' like that one bit.
