Anyone know where I can get one of theses? An external aerial would he necessary too .thanks

The buyincoins.com link on page 1 of this forum where I got mine seems to be down but if you google 'DVB-T USB TV Dongle', I'm sure you'll find one elsewhere or one just like it. I think there are a few more links throughout this thread too. There are also some links back along these pages to co-ax adapters for plugging in regular TV aerials too.

That link brings me to a usb dongle all right. But at the bottom of the advert there is a note in red, which says:

"Support mpeg2. Do not support mpeg4
Buyers need to make sure the city where you living have been opened DVB-T wireless digital television signals !"

That dongle will NOT work for Saorview, if the above statement is accurate, or am I missing something?

Is there any way of cancelling even when it has been sent?

Trawled through the thread and still can't find any suggestions of it working with a Mac OS X - anyone had such success?

Yes you are missing the fact that the warning refers to the capabilities of the supplied software.

The dongle only tunes in the broadcast and does not do any processing on the signal .... that is left up to the software.

There are plenty software options to use other than MPEG-2 only software.

Well I saw that too after I purchased it and thought I'd wasted my money, but I can confirm now that I've got it that it does indeed work for Saorview. The dongle itself does not decode mpeg4 but it does recieve it and passes the demuxed signal onto the software which does the decoding. Why that red note is there I don't know. Mind you, I do think you need an mpeg4 codec installed on your machine if the software your using doesn't have it's own codecs built in. I'd use ffdshow or K-Lite codec pack just in case.

Viewing softwares I tried that worked for me:
1. The supplied Blaze Deluxe Player (Picture quality is kind of grainy.)
2. Windows Media Centre (Better picture.)
3. Splash Lite (same quality as WMC.)
4. VLC Player (Best picture quality, but as it doesn't support scanning, you've got to know your local mast frequency. Has it's own codecs,)

No need to cancel. It does work for Saorview. See my previous post.

Is anyone having problems with RTE 2 HD using the receiver?

Is anyone having problems with RTE 2 HD using the receiver?

What are you seeing - picture breakup?
Is your PC CPU powerful enough for HD, probably not if it works
just about OK on SD.

What software are you using?
VLC seems to have problems with HD sometimes.

I've had no problem with RTE 2 HD in VLC. If you use VLC and you have a half decent graphics card, you can take some of the load off your CPU by going to tools->preferences->Input & Codecs->Use GPU accelerated decoding. VLC is great like this - lots of options.

I've been using WMC.

Can anyone tell me how to get it working in VLC to see if it is actually my hardware that is causing the problem?

About Saorview in VLC player, see this post:

Follow the instructions carefully and you should have a VLC playlist file (.xspf) that opens up Saorview when you click it. If RTE 2 HD is still bad in VLC, there are a whole host of tweakable options that might fix it.

vlc should have its own mpeg4 or h.264 codec ...have you checked it is installed and active

Three Rock has changed frequencies. Try replacing 738000000 with 546000000.

The easiest thing to do IMO is to let VLC generate its own playlist and save it.

VLC .... Open Capture Device ... Mode TV and DVB-T (or DVB-T2)

Enter the frequency for your local transmitter for multiplex frequency and 8Mhz for the bandwidth .... and select Play

The Saorview channels will then become available in VLC and you can select "Save Playlist to file" for re-use simply by opening that file with VLC whenever you want to access Saorview channels.

All you need to know is the frequency of your local transponder.

might be my setup (GPU isn't great) but it seems to be more responsive (less hangy) for RTE2 when video is set as wallpaper

That was where I was going wrong! RTÉ2HD is much better, but still a bit jumpy. Any recommendations on what to do within VLC to make it smoother?

Anyone using one of these in Clontarf?

Yes but it doesn't save a track for each channel this way so you won't be able to change the channels with the navigate buttons - you have to go to playback -> programs each time which is a pain. The code above is a playlist with a track for each channel, allowing you to change channels by simply clicking 'back' or 'next' or else going the playlist window. You can also insert an image to identify your channel by putting in
within the channel track which is nice - less boring than the traffic cone.

That was where I was going wrong! RTÉ2HD is much better, but still a bit jumpy. Any recommendations on what to do within VLC to make it smoother?

Try going to 'Tools -> Preferences -> Video' and setting de-interlacing to 'automatic' or 'on' and de-interlace mode to 'blend'. My RTE 2 picture was all full of glitches and lines until I did this.

EDIT: Also it wouldn't hurt to go to 'Tools -> Preferences -> Input & Codecs' and check 'Use GPU accelerated decoding'. Also 'Tools -> Preferences ->Video' and check 'accelerated video output'.

Got one of these and it works great, the blaze software was a bit laggy but on Windows media center its really smooth, great bargain
