    You have to be trolling?

I'm not, actually. All the photos I've seen of rat-looks tend to be old Jettas, Golfs and 280SEs etc. I was interested in the rat look until I realised that a ratted Alfa wouldn't look the part.

I think it's very subtle trolling, and you're doing it well

Good idea, but it needs to be reversible, so when I sell it in 18 months I'll have a chance of selling it.

Offtopic, the cambelt/variator is being done in two weeks btw.

Definitely do it, sure you'd only be trolling if you weren't serious:)

Why the desire to make the 156 different? A sticker covered 156 would look terrible, you're only motivation seems to make it stand out. Being concerned about resale value 18 months down the line after buying a car for €1300 ish is a tad weird imo.

......... just about the tad weird bit, I don't mean to offend, I paid €2250 for the ZT in Aug 2010, realistically I expect to get peanuts for it if sold this summer with a fresh NCT.

I'm not concerned about the value, just that I will be able to sell it. I won't be able to sell it if it's been badly resprayed.
Why the desire to make the 156 different?

Because I want to, frankly. I'm not what you'd call mature for a 32 year old.

    No offence taken!

I'd love to make the paint look matte. A wrap is way too expensive though.

Why a regional meet so soon?

Why not? Half of the attendees weren't at the national one, and there's two or three maybies that have told me they might go but haven't been to the national either.

Its more to keep things going really.

you do realise for the stickers to stick you may need to actually wash it first, right? :P

    :D

True, but since a dirty car isn't like a dirty shirt, washing a car on the outside verges on pointless imo. The dirtier it looks the less likely it is to be stolen, vandalised or parked beside. Same goes for stickers.

Indeed! And it's not only to do with aerodynamics and wind resistance. A clean car is also lighter :pac:

Yeah, theives never go near dirty M5s with nurburgring stickers on them.

Cleaning a car does more than make it look pretty. It can reduce salt deposits, increase your visibilty and highlight issues that may require attention. Far from pointless.

Surely keeping a car clean and the bodywork in good nick only adds to the secondhand value. Not sure if that's a priority though on a €1500 Alfa 156...

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,383 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

A car only needs to be clean when you're selling it.
