Will you pay the property tax?

    With the Irish goverment hoping to collect just under a Billion Euro with their flat rate property tax next year, I wonder will many people actually pay it?

    THe government are hoping that property owners will log online and pay their tax over the internet, anyone failing to do so will have the tax added to the sale price of their home when they come to sell it.

    With this stupid way of collecting money I wonder will people pay it, and will the budget fail?

    Even if they had a more intelligent way of collecting this tax I still think that this tax will be FG/Labour`s version of the poll tax in the UK and people will simply refuse to pay.

    Will you pay?

    Nope.

    I bought in 2006 so am already in (probably) negative equity.
    Also, it still sickens me to pay the USC each month, that's basically a charge for daring to be alive!

    Yes,
    where I am originally from, property tax is at least $1500 a year for an average household, so not unusual for me.

    Very Daily Mail.
    Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan said a €100 annual “household charge” would become operable from January next year for two years, ahead of the introduction of a full property tax, based on site valuations, in 2014.

    It wouldnt be so bad if we actually got something for it as they do in the UK such as free refuse collection or real free schooling but they want us to pay for the luxury of simply living in our homes!

    Will it be like the TV licence? Pay it once and you are on their system and fooked forever, or never pay it and stay below the radar.

    Renters will get this passed on by landlords I take it? Probably with a few extra quid on top...round it up to an extra tenner a month.

    Heh heh always ...always some cnunts trying to buck the sytem !

    Would have no problem paying this tax as i believe it's necessary.

    However I resent having to subsidise the fcucks who will try and resist this exercise...really want the Gov to ensure that all who are elligible to pay this tax .actually do pay and the ****ers who try to slip under the radar don't get away with it.

    We are in a bad place ...we need to get real...innit ?

    Unlikely I'd say, it is a tax for the home owner so I presume the landlord will pay it.

    So there's another 100 quid out of their potential profit or mortgage payments every year? nah... renters will pay this in some way or other.

    Maybe your right, I'm a renter so I'd still rather pay than be stuck with a huge mortgage like a lot of people.

    No, it wont rise, it'll be a one off charge like the college registration fee.

    Its a one of charge for next year untill they replace it with something more expensive in year two with water charges introduced also.

    Property tax is here to stay if we as a nation accept it in the budget.

    Is there any group set up to try to organize people to not pay?

    It seems like something that we could definitely get rid of if we all stuck together.

    Yes.

    Even OAP`s.

    Only exemptions are people living in social housing and disabled.

    And people receiving Mortgage Interest Supplement. So yes, some people on the dole it seems are exempt.

    Only 250,000 households, some 14 per cent, will be exempt from paying the charge. They include people in social housing owned by local authorities, families in receipt of mortgage-interest supplement and people living in nursing homes or mental institutions.
    From the link in my first post in this thread. Which is 100% more links than you've provided.

    That and telling others that we like to bend over and take it, whilst doing nothing ourselves.

    Protest outside the Daíl on the 9th of December. Will you be there?
    We could also do it on the 10th, but that's a Saturday, and most TD's will be in their local pubs giving out advice to people looking for welfare handouts.

    What's that? You're working on the 9th?
    Ahh, I see. You want protests, but you don't actually want to protest yourself.
    You're employed, but look down on the unemployed and call them leeches, even though most of them want to work, but can't find jobs.
    You want them to protest against the government, but are unwilling to do so yourself because you have a good job and just want to bitch and moan about the unemployed.

    You're pissed off that the unemployed get €188 a week from your taxes, but would quite willingly take that money after your 6 months of benefit run out should you ever join the ranks of the long-term unemployed.

    It's ok. You're Irish. You're the exact same as every other Irish person. You feel entitled to everything, but hate that others are entitled to everything too.

    You won't do anything about it though, because you don't want to go near the useless hippies in Dame Street.
    Hey, I'm with you on that one. They really won't achieve anything.

    At the end of the day, the only way we will get out of the **** we're in is to raise taxes on everything. Bring PAYE back to 1980's levels.

    Nobody wants to heat it. Nobody wants to do it, but we have to pay for the mistakes of successive FF governments, and make sure that FG and Labour don't lead us down the same road again.*

    Only RTÉ, TV3 and TG4.
    I don't understand that though. My friend, when he was living here, wired up the 'joy and Arbour Hill for cable. Prison tv's are capable of receiving all UPC's basic channels.

    The last time I was in the 'joy, I was forced to watch Dr. Phil on RTÉ 1. A fellow prisoner had the remote to my padded cell and told me that it was the only decent thing on.
    Thankfully I was released a couple of hours later.

    *That was directed at the general Irish public, and not specifically at you.

    Rude Fcuker arent ya!

    Not everyone on the dole claim MIR so its not true to say those on the dole are exempt.
    These are some of the details of the new Household Charge or Property Tax that will be introduced as part of the 2012 Budget – from January 2012.

    The 2012 charge will be €100 a year – but it will be increased in 2013
    Property Owners not occupiers will be liable for the charge. Tenants will not have to pay it.

    Billing: No bills for this household charge will be sent – the charge will be on a self declaration basis. Registration and payment can be carried out online when the HouseholdCharge.ie website is up and running.

    The Household Charge is an interim measure to be put in place until a full property tax system is worked out.

    The liability date will be January 2012 and households will have three months to pay. Late payment penalties will apply of €10 a month.

    If charges remain unpaid a charge will remain attached to the property – if a property is sold the new owner becomes liable for outstanding monies.

    Registration for the charge will be done either online or by post. Payers will be able to pay a one off payment online or by post or spread the payment quarterly by direct debit .

    The following properties are exempt from the Household Charge :
    1. Properties that are part of the trading stock of a business (not sold or not generating an income );

    2. Properties owned by local authoritie and approved non-profit housing bodies and rented as “social housing”

    3. Property Owned by Government/HSE;

    4. Properties Owned by a Charity;

    5. Properties where commercial rates apply;

    6. Properties where a person is forced to leave their house due to long-term mental or physical infirmity (elderly person that has moved into a nursing home).
    The following households will have the charge waived :

    1. Those in receipt of mortgage interest supplement (i.e on very low incomes)

    2. Those in certain category 3 and 4 unfinished housing estates (Estimated to be less than 400 estates)
    Category 3 is where a receiver has not been appointed and the developer is still in place but effectively inactive . Category 4 is where the development has been effectively abandoned and is posing serious problems for residents .
    (No mention of mobile home owners not being liable yet)

    I'll be paying it. Anything that gets this country up and running again can only be a good thing for my future too.

    Besides, I get tax relief on my mortgage every month so 1 TRS covers property tax for year.

    I just hope they don't increase employees tax/prsi/usc aswell. People need the incentive to stay working or want to work.

    + I pay enough to fund high public sector pay and pensions. Some public sector pensions are over 120,000 per year. They should cut those before I give the government another cent.
