Will you pay the property tax?

With the Irish goverment hoping to collect just under a Billion Euro with their flat rate property tax next year, I wonder will many people actually pay it?

THe government are hoping that property owners will log online and pay their tax over the internet, anyone failing to do so will have the tax added to the sale price of their home when they come to sell it.

With this stupid way of collecting money I wonder will people pay it, and will the budget fail?

Even if they had a more intelligent way of collecting this tax I still think that this tax will be FG/Labour`s version of the poll tax in the UK and people will simply refuse to pay.

    Will you pay?

    Nope.

I bought in 2006 so am already in (probably) negative equity.
Also, it still sickens me to pay the USC each month, that's basically a charge for daring to be alive!

Me too. Trick is introduce something at a low rate and hike it every successive budget till in 2014 we are paying E500 "property tax"(really bail out the german banks tax)

Even if you didn't want to pay it, it could be added unto to your water/electricity bill.

    Yes,
where I am originally from, property tax is at least $1500 a year for an average household, so not unusual for me.

    Very Daily Mail.
Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan said a €100 annual “household charge” would become operable from January next year for two years, ahead of the introduction of a full property tax, based on site valuations, in 2014.

It wouldnt be so bad if we actually got something for it as they do in the UK such as free refuse collection or real free schooling but they want us to pay for the luxury of simply living in our homes!

Will it be like the TV licence? Pay it once and you are on their system and fooked forever, or never pay it and stay below the radar.

Renters will get this passed on by landlords I take it? Probably with a few extra quid on top...round it up to an extra tenner a month.

Heh heh always ...always some cnunts trying to buck the sytem !

Would have no problem paying this tax as i believe it's necessary.

However I resent having to subsidise the fcucks who will try and resist this exercise...really want the Gov to ensure that all who are elligible to pay this tax .actually do pay and the ****ers who try to slip under the radar don't get away with it.

We are in a bad place ...we need to get real...innit ?

Unlikely I'd say, it is a tax for the home owner so I presume the landlord will pay it.

So there's another 100 quid out of their potential profit or mortgage payments every year? nah... renters will pay this in some way or other.

    Probably not.
A couple of hours in the 'joy will do.
The food is quite good in there.

Maybe your right, I'm a renter so I'd still rather pay than be stuck with a huge mortgage like a lot of people.

No, it wont rise, it'll be a one off charge like the college registration fee.

Its a one of charge for next year untill they replace it with something more expensive in year two with water charges introduced also.

Property tax is here to stay if we as a nation accept it in the budget.

Is there any group set up to try to organize people to not pay?

It seems like something that we could definitely get rid of if we all stuck together.

oh no wait i forgot as a nation our favourite thing to do is bend over and take it.
