I use chrome on my iMac with OSX 10.7.2. Every time apple update safari I use it for a few days to mess with the new features but it's definitely not as fast as chrome. I also encourage non-techy people to use chrome because it auto-updates. My dad was using IE 6 for years longer than anyone should, all because he didn't realise he could update to a better browser.

I still stick with safari although I have chrome, ff and even opera installed.

safari plays nicer with resources imo, despite the bad security and general plain-ness.

I've noticed recently that Safari is eating up my available memory. I was watching it the other day and nearly 4GB of HDD space disappeared. It reappeared once I quit Safari.

Safari has a long history of memory leaks. And if you don't have much RAM, it will use your hard drive as virtual memory. 4GB is a lot though. Are you browsing Flash heavy websites or have a lot of extensions installed?

There are applescripts around the web for restarting safari/any app.

So periodically I click this which is in the dock beside safari (and it autoruns, restarts and reopens all of safaris tabs)

Frees up over a gig most of the time, if i leave safari and other apps open unchecked my machines uses the disk even though i have 8gb of ram.

I saw before that if page outs are 10% of page ins you "need" more ram, obviously it varies but it is a fairly good indication and considering how cheap ram is you should really upgrade to 8 if your machines can.

Safari's a little odd. It seems to be the only one that will play Jamie Oliver's American Road Trip for me, Firefox and Chrome don't seem to want to. Safari also has this annoying habit of wanting to refresh all tabs (not at once) for some odd reason. Don't know how or why it happens, but you click on a tab and it starts to refresh, click on others and the same thing...not every day, and IIRC it logs you out of your emails. A little annoying. Mostly use Safari and FF.

    Moved to Firefox, unfortunately.
Safari doesn't work with my VPN intermittently, and it's really frustrating, so I just stick with FF. iTunes store craps out at the same time actually, come to think of it!
