I bet if you ran deathsmiles through the command prompt you'd see that its not running at 100%.

The emulation isn't 100% there yet!

It's the only place where the gameplay is affected, the rest run great!
As I posted on Jamma +, I'm looking for a shell solution that'll allow me to boot up, straight to a screen orientation selection screen, I think that'd be cool. Select if you are running in landscape or 'tate and the appropriate Hyperspin loads.
    It can be done!

High praise there from the Sultan of Scanlines

Now, to try Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets on the cab!
Really gonna have to get the thing reorientated for this!

Does Hyperspin support vertical resolutions ? I thought that was a 2.0 feature.

I know Mala can run in either horizontal or vertical modes but I doubt you want to start all over with another frontend :)
Mame can be configured to rotate any games 90 degrees left or right with -rol -ror options. I guess you could create a game ini file for each shump you want rotated and live with the frontend off by 90 degrees. Unless your cab has an easy mechanism to rotate the screen you'll hardly be rotating it off often ?

Yeah, Hyperspin doesn't have a rotate feature yet. All the themes etc would require resizing.
Some peeps have developed a complicated work around but wouldnt be worth the hassle imo.

If you tated the monitor it really would be for a specific set of games at the loss of hyperspin looking cool and hori games!

Muchi muchi runs well although some times when I start it it is very slow. Just exit and start it again and it is fine. Weird!

I'd be happy to boot into a different frontend, given that the games I'd be playing would be limited to Shmups, everything else is happy to live in a horizontal orientation, even the ones built for vertical viewing.
I'll have to see if there is a way to select the shell from the start....

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

I think lastbandits suggestion for creating an ini for each game with rotate mode set might be the only way to do it.
I presume someone else has encountered this problem before though

You are actually going to be physically rotating the monitor ?

Big job so not going to be done every 5 minutes. So I'd use a dedicated vertical frontend i.e Mala, you already have all the movies/marquee/snaps etc from Hyperspin so wouldn't be a huge job to setup and it will automatically tell Mame to run everything in tate mode for you.

You could have a simple batch file on the desktop to switch between which frontend is run on startup.
Move the monitor to vertical, double-click the "setVertical.bat" and reboot - job done.
Move the monitor to horziontal, double-click the "setHorz.bat" and reboot - job done again.

Or just wait till Hyperspin 2.0 comes out :)

I think it was 0.143 but I have a more up to date version here.
Google the feck out of it!

    Irony Alert!
Just as I "acquired" Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets for the cab I get notification that my copy of Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets is incoming for the 360, from Play Asia!

Also, regarding the orientation selection, I had an idea... No laughing down the back!

Rather than messing with shells at start up my idea is to use the XP login to select one or the other, then boot into the appropriate orientated front end!
I can alter the boot screen to have something more arcadey, and see what I can do with a speedy switch straight to the right menu.
All very exciting and unlikely to work, but we'll see!

If you keep an eye out over in the Arcade Otaku gallery forum, he has a thread where he posts work in progress cabs.

I've still no joy from that Touring car cab I bought.:(
After ripping it apart, checking every wire and buying two PSU's Everything now powers on but lights on main board come on but stay red.

Must be issue with the main board(well there is actually 3)
Bit of a fecker as a board stack will cost 250+ and are rare to come by.
    I'll ask over on AO.
Half tempted at this stage to turn it into Mame driving cab with force feed back motor, model 2 emu and happ steering wheel. Can be done but seems like a good bit of work for someone with 5 thumbs for fingers!!

Hopefully doesn't come to that as I really want a dedicated Sega driving cab

Check out what I spied in Bray Bowl today. Some Electrocoin Duet porn! Had a good look at them and they're in absolutely lovely condition. They haven't had these cabs out in years. Must have been sitting down in storage. I hate to think what condition they'll be after a few BYOB nights.

Also came across the Electrocoin I used to play Metal Slug on in there about 10-15 years ago! Very tempted to ask them if they'd be interested in selling this.

I wonder would Bray Bowl be willing to sell them?

A Duet would look lovely beside your two new machines Enternow.

Just strip it right down and it should fit through your doors ;)

Bray Bowl also had a full sized HOTD2 cabinet on display too. One of those huge ones where you climb inside and sit down on a bench. Was all giddy when I saw it - until the damn thing ate my €1!

Yeah I'd really like to own one, I don't know how far they could be taken apart though...afaik the width of it couldn't be reduced much being wooden so its prob not a runner :(
