I've an Egret 3 so not sure if thats a different setup with the cable.

Maybe andrew can check his Atomswave as thats nearly the same as my Egret. So if he has it then I should too, and if not then happy days.

Speaking of pad hacks, I must get around to wiring up player 2 to my X360 hacked pads. Been putting it off for ages.

    .

Thankfully the shock didn't do any permanent damage to you or the cab! No idea what the story was with the JPAC shutting down, maybe some sort of safety mechanism or else just a random thing.

Coincidentally I had the cp open last night to take some snaps - I have a ground wire connected to the P1 joystick mounting plate but nothing connected to the cp itself, as you said it's pretty much all plastic. In the pic below you can just about make out a green wire connected to the top left of the grey mounting plate on the right hand side (from this angle). Those 3 unused connections in the middle come from the 360 pad hacks so it's pretty handy to switch controls.

I have both LS-56-01s fitted now. The pink would look better on a darker background but it'll do me. :)

Don't know what it is but I just love a decent pic of a jap style cpanel.

Man, I'm really jealous as to how clean the inside of your panel is. My one is pretty good but not as clean and white as yours, no matter how much I scrub it. Might need to get the retr0brite out an do a proper job on my cab.

I don't have that grounded wire so maybe I'll hook one up like you have, just to be safe. I see you went with the 2 small buttons in the lock holes, very handy to have those I find.

One question, where's your monitor controls? Are they not under the cpanel on the Atomswave?

Raiden 2 PCB - Picture is perfect. No sound.

    ...

Edit - right, had a chat with the seller. Turns out this supergun doesn't supply -5v at all. Raiden 2 needs -5v for sound. Bollocks.

This chap arrived this morning but only got to test it out a while ago: -5v Jamma pass-through adapter. Very handy little device that produces -5v on the relevant pin and is needed for some games (in my case for audio).

    5vjammapassthrough.jpg

o1s1n: I tested Raiden II without the -5v adapter and the sound was perfect on the cab. It's Raiden that has no audio - actually there was a barely audible sound say when a bomb is dropped for example. Once I hooked up the -5v then the audio was perfect, nice and loud. I double checked the manuals for both and it's only Raiden that mentions -5v, not Raiden II. Maybe that seller was confused but either way that leaves the question of why you're getting no sound with your setup?

Here's the -5v in use between a jamma extension cable and the Raiden PCB.

    5vraiden.jpg

Actually while I was testing PCBs I had to take a snap of the Snow Bros one compared to the Sky remote - it's tiny for such an old board! :pac:

I have purplec to thank for that, that's pretty much how I got it. I actually need to give it a bit of a clean in the corners not shown, dirt/dust gathers everywhere.

That ground wire goes into a connection with the letter E on it, I reckon you should have the same connection? Actually here's a an old pic of it (ignore the giant hand :o):

Yep I went with your suggestion with the mini buttons and it works a treat thanks! One button for PC the other is the Player1 360 Guide button to power on/off/get back to dash etc.

My control panel sits behind the coin mech door:

Is the loom from the JAMMA adapter to a supergun? If not your cab wiring looks utterly divine. I wish my cab was like that. Mine needs a complete rewire.

I actually like the pots on your cab being behind the coin mech door. Lifting the CP for pot adjustment on an Astro is a pain in the hoop.

I do like your little nod to the Astro though in how you organized your stick and button colours! Those sleeves look nice too. Mine are black though to keep mine faithful to the cab.

Aren't those LS-56 sticks beautiful? A joy to use. Try playing Night Raid with one and you'll see what I mean!

Nice snaps though Andrew, very helpful stuff to see your wiring setup. Thanks.

Edit: wait a sec, your buttons are all Sanwa? Not a true shooting game fan then! Boo! Hiss! ;)

No that extension loom hooks into the standard jamma connection in the cab. It's handy for testing PCBs outside the cab and also because the jpac from my hyperspin pc is located towards the back of the cab. The Supergun lives upstairs for use with PCBs on the Trini.

Lol don't believe I've used seimitsu buttons, maybe try them someday but I'm well used to the sanwas at this stage.

Thanks for testing that man, I dunno what's up with it then. Might be a good idea to just scrap the sound through the tv entirely and just run it to some speakers. I'd have no problem with that at all.

That Snow Bros pcb is tiny alright! Look at the size of the chips on it in relation to the board, they're huge :D

I really like the sanwa buttons. But I have been meaning to get a full set of seimitsu ones just to install for a week and see how they are.

That's how I built my supergun, I'd read up on the sound through tv issue & decided for the safety of my tv, I'd install speakers in the supergun box itself. Works fine :)

Is it worthwhile getting one of these supergun things?
I see a few people who have cabs even have them so was wondering. I mean if you have a jamma cab what's the benefit of having a supergun as well.

I made my own before I had a cab, so I could actually buy some pcb's & use them. Making them is very easy, & fun :)

The practical advantage is if your cab isn't in the house like mine arn't. So you can play your pcb's in comfort, without suffering grade 2 Hypothermia in the winter months.

Generally though if you have a cab, all else pales in comparison.

Ahh i see. So no real benefit for me getting one.
Or is it nice to have anyway?

Suppose they are handy to have, especiallythe ones like o1s1n has as it's not limited to Jamma games

Might look into it a bit more. Would be handy to have Jamma upstairs and down. Coz I'm lazy and stuff :p

Looks to be by far the best idea. Especially as it seems to be what's causing the interferance with the picture too. To me there's no point trying to deal with all that hassle when you could have a couple of passive speakers hooked up directly.

Reckon you could just wire the sound to a 3.5mm jack out instead?

I have one for a couple of reasons. The main one is so I can play vertical games as I don't have a vertical cab. It's also handy to have one for testing PCBs. Beats climbing in an out of a cabinet to test stuff.

Yep, exactly the same as wiring it to a passive speaker really. If you wanna pick up a female jack before Sunday, I'll wire it up for you

My marquee light on my astro city just went kaput.
I twisted that little fuse near it and now it just flickers.
I presume this is knackered rather than Tube?
It says 15 watts beside it . Can you get these easily or is it the tube thats feckered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Got a 15W Fluorescent tube in Homebase for 5 bob.
Does the trick and fits nicely.

The part above the astro city sign that says "Flat square 29" never really lit up that well before :)

    scaled.php?server=263&filename=20120205154347.jpg&res=medium

It's a 450mm 15W tube in case anyone is looking for replacement

I just doing up some quick 3D arcade type text to cover some of the Hyperspin genres for use with MAME 0.145(but they'll work with any version as long as you have the genre.xml file).

If anyone wants them let me know. They're not great but are better than the default hyperspin wheel that displays when you don't have a proper wheel theme for your genre. And at least will be something to display until I can get around to making something a bit better.

Had a problem with my hyperspin pc last night. The arcade vga card died in it :(
Looks like it was a component fault on the card itself or maybe the motherboard. Anyway, I'm on my backup pc in the cab now so no 15hz loveliness, only 31hz as the graphics card in the backup pc doesn't support that soft15hz program.

The pixels look completely different in 31hz, not the same at all:(

I've a big old ATI AGP card that supports soft15 afaik if you've an AGP slot you can have it

I think that soft15 software is OS dependent too, or was when I thought about using it before going the ArcadeVGA route. Don't think it supports Win7.

Aye Steve, low res looks awesome.

Cheers, but the backup pc only has integrated graphics so no slot for the card :(

Yeah, its running on windows 7 64bit so you're right it wouldnt work anyway. It was a pain to get win7 to run in 640x480 and lock out the other resolutions as it was.

It'll do the job until I can sort out another motherboard and card.

They're a couple of Ronnie's ones arent they? I noticed he also has pics of that SNK cab I was interested in up there too on the page before. Good picture of the rotate mech.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,103 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Yup. Actually did you notice on the SNK pics you can just about make out the insides being manky dirty - then the more recent pics you got were sparkling clean. Least he cleans them up before selling on. Cool little cab that SNK. :)

Think the flyback on my Polo 2 bit the bullet. Nothing but a whiteish blue screen, but with all the game sounds etc.

Opened the back of the cab to see some serious HT current leakege around the top of the flyback, where the HT lead is bonded into it.

Thats it for that, new chassis is the only solution really :(
