Not something I would perosnally find attractive but impressive results for 50 days work.

Fed up with her flaabby appearence yet she has to hold up her tits to show her Abs :pac:

Wrong wrong wrong. Just when I thought she couldn't get anymore unattractive. On the flip though you gotta admire her determination in getting such results in so little time.

That 50 days thing is bullsh*t though....

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1188329/Muscle-girl-Jodie-Marsh-pumps-iron-swaps-glamour-body-building.html

But fair play to her... 10% body fat is seriously low, must have taken some amount of dedication!!

While the atttidues to this don't surprise me, they do disappoint me a bit. People don't do this primarily to look good for the opposite sex. Now, she's done herself no favours banging on about how much more attention whe's gotten from guys as a side-effect of this training, but that look that you see in the photos is such a fleeting look that only exists for a few short hours while she's on stage. The tan goes on and comes off in less than a day, the extreme leanness lasts no more than a week (unless there's a subsequent comp to prep for) and I can absolutely guarantee you that if she were in civvies walking down the street she would turn heads for all the 'right' reasons.

Besides all this though the sheer hard work and determination it takes to achieve something like this is way beyond what any average punter could ever even contemplate doing - I have nothing but respect for it.

Intrestingly the Sun published pics of her the next day, with the stuff off in civvies. I thought she just looked very skinny.

It never fails to make me laugh though.
I have no idea about bodybuilding, no interest or understanding.
But it makes me laugh how some people seem to think Jodie Marsh did this to impress them.

Much of her past behaviour seemed to be motivated by her need to generate approval from others, especially men. The girl has serious issues with her self-esteem.

I'd imagine that she enjoys bodybuilding because it allows her to create the type of body SHE herself wants. However, I believe the media will only use this to slaughter her even more and using it to fill their pages with dozens of useless and damaging articles in the process. For example, telling women to stay away from weight training etc etc.

The daily mail had a story about her at the end of September here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2039283/Jodie-Marsh-shows-copious-body-art-face-makeup.html so obviously she doesn't go around with a full set of abs all the time.

I think fair play to her if that's what she wants to do with her time/body, it takes some amount of dedication.

I would love to know if all the dieting feics up her periods and stuff. You never hear anyone say anything about that side of things....

I remember seeing Jodie on the active channel and even then she was quite lean had abs IIRC.

As regards bodybuilding she certainly did get lean even for competitive level.

Whilst the look may not be to everyone's taste it does show dedication and determination to get this far.

It should also be noted she would only hold this level of conditioning for a few weeks if even that long.

    Fair play to her!

First off I've no interest in bodybuilding, I just don't get the whole training to pose on stage thing! BUT it takes serious amount of hard work & dedication & fair play to her (or anyone else that does this).

AFAIK she's using this to get back in the limelight, the woman has been anonymous for a long time (atleast I think she has been) & now she has a tv show about her transformation coming out in January. So to say this isn't for publicity & to impress people is laughable! She's an attention seeker & always will be! Then again, she gets paid for it so why wouldn't she?

From experience and from knowing a few girls go through similar it's quite certain her periods would pretty much disappear very quickly into the competition prep phase. As for long term affects, it's unfortunately a very high risk activity for fertility problems down the road, much in the same way that eating disorders can result in infertility. Sometimes it's reversible through weight gain, sometimes it's permanent. Scary stuff.

That is also very lean as well RC. IMO & IME many women would not be offended to have a stomach/abs like in the picture above.

I've personally never seen the appeal of female body builders, not my thing.

I think the before pictures of Jodie were much better, she may not have been the skinniest glamour model around, but if you took away the big boobs, she was just a fantastic looking girl, that was most of her appeal.

Everyone who gets up on stage is doing it to impress people, that's kind of the aim of it. My point was that she is not solely doing it to look attractive for the opposite sex - when people see these pictures of women the first they say isn't "wow, that's some hard work" they say "feic, I wouldn't ride it into battle". The hard work that goes into doing this is beyond comprehension, but no-one pays a blind bit of notice to that aspect of it.

As fame strategies go at least this has a bit of welly behind it, she's worked hard for it and I can't but admire that, unlike Katie I-change-my-husband-with-the-days-of-the-week Price and Kerry poster-girl-for-bad-parenting Katona.

I suppose it's slightly less harmless then doing coke infront of your kids....:p

Ah no, as I said fair play to her, it's just a bit ridiculous you have so many people out there doing this already & all of a sudden a Z list celebrity comes along & it makes headlines! Hopefully it'll inspire more people to work to their goals!

Like that other story (brought to you courtesy of the Daily Mail again) about Chantelle Hougton http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2016261/Chantelle-Houghton-infertile-years-crash-diets.html

Yup, it is very lean and no, many women would not be offended to look like that. However it is another story altogether as to whether women are even meant to be that lean...I would say not myself:)

Any sport/ past-time that centres around aesthetics will be full of people with self-esteem issues. Doing something like this involves a phenomenal amount of will power, and there's more than an element of control freakness about it. Anyone who has dieted and trained to such an extreme level will tell you how utterly addictive the whole process is, watching yourself change and transform almost on a daily basis. There's a myriad of negative self-imagery, self-worth, self-esteem issues at play regardless of gender. I'm not saying that it's the case across the board, but there's a reason why body-dysmorphia is such a massive issue in weigth-controlled sports. I know I'm putting a really negative spin on it all here but I just mean that it's not just an isolated case with her. The difference between this and the 'classic' eating disorders like bulemia and AN is that at least for much of the year she'll have a relatively healthy, albeit sleight, frame.

No, sorry, I should clarify that I was primarily talking about females in weight controlled sports - gymnastics being the classic example.

Apologies for my ignorance of female body building but can that level be achieved naturally or would it be chemically enhanced?

If your girl's bigger than you, then you're weak and puney.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/3853388/Jodie-Marsh-Bodybuilding-has-made-me-feel-sexier-than-ever.html

There is one shot of her de-blacked and with a trophy there. Supposedly the next day. She doesn't look remotely swole to me. Is this just a lack of "culture" to my eye? Is she still looking big there?

Edit: I'm gonna leave it up there anyway.

her arms legs don't look massive really compared to say a girl who swims/runs/plays sports.

How much of female BB is cutting body fat vs building muscle?

She obviously does a lot of ab and back work.

Is that not a somewhat valid point though? On-stage bodybuilders often look grotesque (between the ronseal and uber-cutting).

Often they look a million times better after competition.

There's a thread about this in Celebrity and Showbiz - if someone wants to talk about the finer points of her looking appalling there then work away.

But this is Health and Fitness. For once, just once, I think a bodybuilder (physique competitor) in the limelight deserves a conversation that revolves around more than just how much someone would or wouldn't hit it.

But why are people seemingly unable to draw the distinction between self improvement in order to look attractive/sexy (which is in the eye of the beholder anyway) and similar effort that results in definition, symmetry and the other aims of bodybuilding, but that may not be sexy in the conventional sense?

Why is that even coming into it? It's not a Miss World swimsuit competition, it's an athletic competition with entirely different goals and different criteria for success.

Nobody comes in and says "I can't believe jockeys wear that stupid outfit, they must look ridiculous at parties".

I don't get the issue at all...

Wikipedia tells me the tanning combines with the lighting make the definition of the muscle group more distinct.
Cutting would give the same result surely.

If the point is to show muscle definition & symmetry (or whatever, I'm no expert :P), what alternatives would you suggest?
Why would anyone give up these tools without an equally effective alternative?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,396 ✭✭✭Tefral

You know I never knew she had it in her. She might have done it for the attention, but thats alot of dedication, that kind of physique is not easy to attain or maintain.

I say fair play to her!

It isn't an objective measurement system though. Clearly a drive within bodybuilding is favouring this ultracut, overtanned look. Bodybuilding used to have a greater athletic component at the shows (weightlifting) arguably producing better rounded and healthier looking bodybuilders. If judges favoured a less extreme looking physique the athletes would match it!

Just because a cut is hard doesn't make it somehow worthwhile!

Then, just like any other sporting event, you're looking at the sport's governing body deciding that a certain shade of brown is "too brown", and introducing limits as to the darkness of the skin colour of the contestants.

I'm not sure how the black contestants would like that...

I don't know how you'd reduce the amount of cutting tbh. A minimum body fat percentage?

You'd need judges not favouring people with excessive tan. That would be a subjective thing.

You'd help the cutting factor by introducing an athletic component to the proceedings that would require a competitor to do a demanding task that would be incompatible with extremely low bodyfat!
