Are men and women equal when it comes to their preoccupation with sex?

It's always been understood that men think about sex more than women but is that really true!?
Maybe it varies from person to person.

Think in varies but on average women, at least from what I have seen are not as preoccupied with sex as men. The gap may be a lot smaller than one would think though, still the world is saturated with imagery and art of the sexulized feminine body.

There are studies out there and most agree that men think about sex roughly twice as often as women, or slightly more so.

The science seemed solid to me.

I don't know, I think pr0n is nearer the equivalent of soaps or x-factor or that kind of thing ... mindless drivel which we watch for stress relief / to relax. We know it's not real, sometimes if the show is good we wish for a minute or two that it were, but then we turn it off and get on with the clean-up and the rest of our lives.


More seriously, while the contention that men think about sex twice as much as men seems believable, historically the woman's sex drive has been greatly under-estimated, even socially denied and suppressed, and there are still hang-ups from that era around (the classic one, the man who sows his wild oats is generally applauded by his peers; the woman who harvests for more than one farmer is still designated a slut).

Plus the level of sex-drive varies from man to man, and from woman to woman.

I've encountered women with sex drives far higher than mine, and I've always been a horny baxtard!

Also as you said, it varies from person to person, and changes over time depending on circumstances.

I can only speak for myself but as for me personally, I've never identified with the descriptions most use for women's sex drives (e.g. that it needs some kind of story or context to be sparked, that it's not on our minds every couple of hours, etc.)

I think hormones and lifestyles come into it quite a bit. My sex drive is through the roof and I get very frustrated very easily (most of the time) and I find I have a mind geared towards sex/nudity/activity etc more than most. I'm female but not "average" as in I see myself as one of the lads mostly. Having said that, I've looked very brazen with some men who were quite shy and unfamiliar with anything sexual, and it also has to deal with the levels of exposure they've had to stuff like that growing up, if it's been seen as ok or seedy or whatever. I think the myth that women don't think about sex too often was busted a long time ago anyway.

But am quite happy being an almost constantly horny b!tch :pac:

I wouldn't say the sex drive in women is underestimated just not fully understood.

"Women need a reason to have sex men a place"; Billy Crystal, which probably holds true.

Biologically and evolutionary it really is all about babies. Us men can fkuc and go away while a woman maybe left with a 9 month package, then she will risk her life by giving birth, then she is landed with a needy child.

So a woman has to be more selective in her choosing. Although times have moved on and with modern medicine, women biologically are largely in control of their birthing process, also a child born out of a pair bond may no longer mean poverty for the woman and that child.

But the sex part of her brain still is the same as it was in ancient times. And so is ours.
