    Hey guys,
Did ye go for the G9 8 incher or the 10.1? Have a voucher to use and just may go for one of these....

The 10 inch , that is the only one on the voucher list . I will need to buy a sdhc card later to bump up available space on it from 8 Gb

I ordered the 32Gb Xoom using the voucher! Not as good value as the Archos but still a good price!!

It's so frustrating tracking the order! watching it arrive in a sorting office... sit there for ages and then move to another! Ordered last weekend and it only left the Brussels sorting office at 2am last night :(

    HHHUUUUURRRRRRYYYY UUUUPPPPPP

    Guys,

What are your impressions of the tablet?

RTE Player and 4oD run ok?

It comes with Android 3.2 installed or a lower version?

    Cheers :)

    Comes with Android 3.2(Honeycomb).

I've used RTE player and 4 OD on it, both work fine.

The only issue I had was the Android market one. I was able to apply a fix, Archos have recognized this problem and will address on the next firmware update:

    Cheers onform.

I am tempted as i have a FNAC voucher.

What is putting me off is the voice in my ear saying:

    • For another €150 you could get a Xoom
    • The limited memory will limit my enjoyment of the Tablet

But i need to get a new PC to play BF3 so €200 really is my budget and as it is my first Tablet, get an entry-level one and i could always sell it for near enought the price i paid for it.

    Thoughts anyone?

Is the Archos not better spec than the xoom ?

    http://www.tabletvstablet.com/2011/08/18/archos-101-g9-vs-motorola-xoom/
    Wrap-up

After looking at the two devices, we found some differences in terms of cameras, processors, battery life and design. But the biggest and most important difference is the price, since the Archos 101 G9 will become available this September for an estimated price of $349, without contract, which makes it one of the cheapest 10-inch Honeycomb tablets on the market. The Motorola Xoom may be more popular, but it also comes with a higher price, selling for around $600. So the choice is yours: go for more class and functionality or choose the more affordable, yet nicely specd Archos 101 G9.

Seems xoom slightly better. But is it worth the extra...

That is the question alright :).

Can anyone who has bought it say if they have had any issues with the device or apps crashing due to having too many open (due to limited ram) etc?

ask yourself what actual benefit do you see the Xoom giving you?

Potential uses from getting a tablet as i have a laptop and a desktop:

    • Gmail
    • Browsing
    • Youtube
    • RTE Player & 4oD
    • Google Docs
    • watching some shows from a USB stick

I am sure the 101 G9 can do all that for me, but the small amount of ram (512Mb) has me a bit concerned.

I guess just be mindful of the amount of apps you have open, let Android work behind the scenes or install an app killer.

If you can have a browse while watching RTE player or 4oD and no real lag on the machine then that would suffice.

Well I more meant what benefit do you see the xoom giving you that the G9 won't :D.

Given that quad processors etc may be here by year end, the extra money spent on the xoom mightn't be the best investment and picking up the cheaper tab may be a better option

Ordered Xoom as well. Order has been shipped, but I cannot see the tracking number. Does this appear online or are you emailed it?

    Cheers

For me the big one is twice the ram and 4 times the disk space.

The question for me is 512Mb enough?

What about the Acer Iconia Tab? How does that rate against the Archos?
I notice it is reduced at the moment so you cant apply the voucher but it was available for €349 before and with voucher brings it down to €249 plus shipping. Is it worth the extra €50??

I am not sure man. New to the tablet scene myself.

BUT if you look at the offer page now, they have reduced the prices of some of the tablets. €20 off on most.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 10.1 "TFT 16 GB for 220 + shipping is tempting

In relation to this thread: FNAC offered the HP Touchpad for sale; a large number of people ordered; they weren't able to fulfil all orders, so they issued €100 discount vouchers that could be used on a number of other tablets.

How is that even remotely legal? Take money from a load of people for a product you don't have and then don't refund them just allow them to use the money to buy something else from you that they don't necessarily want?

Didn't take any money, just the order. And because of that we all sat there and stopped hunting for a TP. So we have 100 euro vouchers but TBH practically worthless against what is on offer.

Ah, fair enough I suppose. A lot of the tablets in the FNAC are close to 100 euros dearer than their competitors.

wooohoooooo G9 just dropped to my desk at work which isn't bad after ordering on Friday. Now to go home and compare it to my ipad2

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dolallyoh

Lol, be funny to see what you think of it after the comparison.

First impressions are that I am a little let down by it. It seems to be slightly under-powered, screen transitions and scrolling are both a bit sluggish. This also means that flash games, if intensive won't be a good experience, some of these issues may be resolvable with a custom rom but the fact that I may have to install a custom rom on it is a bit of a pisser as it should be good enough out of the box.

The screen although not as vibrant as an ipad2 is still quite good and has great viewing angles so can't complain however there are moments of unresponsiveness from the touch screen that will leave you frustrated.

Aesthetically it is a bit plasticy, however I'm not to pushed about it to be truthful however the volume button is stupidly placed on the side were you would naturally place your hand so that can be a pain.

16:9 V 4:3. Truthfully personal preference is that I'm not a fan of 16:9 tablets especially at this size as they can be a bit to tall meaning you have to use them in landscape mode for the most part. However most android devices are like this. That said the missus who will be using this mostly prefers the 16:9 ratio

Truthfully not a bad tablet, however I am basing that off the fact that it was €212 delivered. If I was paying an extra €100 I would start thinking about something else.
