So youve gotten a hundred Euro discount from FNAC to purchase a tablet from their website

What are people opinions on the best one

(i suppose this thread is more so for the folks who got the 100 Euro discount from the whole Touchpad mess up)

But how and ever it is still Android related.

    Thoughts?

My previous comments on the HP Thread :

what are people considering putting their €100 tablet voucher towards ?
It doesnt need to be used until mid Nov so have some time to consider yet.

Personally I was looking at getting the TP originally for my kids for :

    1. Watching movies
    2. Good Battery life for long flights / car trips
    3. wifi
    4. some games
    5. keep them off my ipad

so I am considering getting the Archos 101 instead , currently 259 for 16gb model (although if reduced from 299 so not sure if i can use voucher in conjunction with 'that' reduction)
It seems to have decent reviews and will be a good option for the kids ,obviously there are far better tablets ,but I guess value for money is a big item for me.

Obviously it is going to work out at nearly 180 compared to the original TP at 99 , but after 2 weeks+ of this , I feel i need to purchase something !

although i have now also read reviews of this product on amazon , and reviews are a mixed bunch , including plenty of shocking reviews! , pity they dont have something like the hanspree for €200 like misco.ie

    Here is my initial shortlist.

    Archos 9pc 32gb €399
    EeePad transformer w/out keyboard €399
    Acer icona a500 €399
    Toshiba folio 100 €289
the above mentioned archos. (however i feel i would have a hard time with this as I have a samsung galaxy s 2 as my phone.)
also on the outside is the Xoom at €480 32GB..
    or a galaxy 8.9 for €460

Next I have to find specs for all of these! FNAC does not give a comprehensive specs sheet.

Ohh and btw 3 cheers for Google Translate. ;)

Bear in mind that you can still buy the touchpad for 200 euro off ebay.

No point spunking money on dubious tablets just because we have the 100 voucher.....

fnac also do the hannspad, see other bargain alerts for more infor on this table. for €200, a dual core tegra 2 nicely built machine

Im thinking the ASUS Transformer 16Gb is looking pretty good. ASUS have been top notch with updates and with a pretty good adoption of the device you'd have to assume that they would continue to provide updates in the next few months (ICS possibly)??

That's hardly its greatest flaw. It has a Rockchip 800MHz CPU and only 256MB of RAM. That's about exactly the minimum spec required to run Android. Couple that with a likely resistive screen and a terrible battery and it's really just an expensive paperweight.

Hopefully we can order items as such from FNAC with voucher ,but i wouldnt be so sure

Just my opinion, but having spent hours obsessing over the tablets in that list, I went for the Transformer.

Great display (highly visible outdoors), expandability of the keyboard/dock, and pricewise at the lower end of the tegra 2 tablets.

I'd avoid the archos 101, not a great display and just a single core processor.

If you're just getting something for the kids, maybe one of those cheap €70ish chinese tablets might suit better.

Hmm, well Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 was recently announced and it looks great. Super slim device, 334 grams, gorgeous screen + excellent specs.
    -> http://youtu.be/pEkpMh8uq5E

Wait and see if it will be released before the 100€ voucher expires?

Price might be too high though

I think that anything less than 10inches for a tablet is underwhelming, too small to be as effective as close to A4 and too big for pocket use.

FNAC are doing the Hannspad @ €200 which would make it a steal @ €100 with the voucher especially when there are custom roms appearing on Slatedroid for it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dolallyoh

Agreed, no point buying a smaller one to replace the touchpad lust.

Yes it looks like the Hannspad is a fore runner, But do we know if FNAC are doing it. Is that not merely a reseller ?

Im not sure exactly how FNAC handle their transactions ?

I mentioned earlier that this is sold by a 3rd party thru FNAC so will have to wait and see if can be ordered.
Also on the misco thread for this there is concern over whether it was the 33 or 53 model , no indication on FNAC which percise model this is.

We should all buy same one and when they sell out in 1 second await the second €100 voucher....

seems to be unavailable on FNAC now

    edit: the hannspad

There's a new tablet coming to market (in the US at least) called the Gateway A60. Has all the specs of the higher priced honeycomb. Has gone on sale in the states for $399 for the 16Gb version (There's also a 16Gb SD card included!)

If that appeared on FNAC would be a good price IF it remained at the price its being sold in the US. (roughly €280)

On my list of android tablets I have the HTC Flyer and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9"....one thing i've had trouble with though, is trying to understand what sort of people tablets are for, that's the only reason I can't justify buying one??

Lots of people, I find because I like gadgets and things I got one. Use it for viewing videos on the network in bed easier than having the laptop on.
Quicker startup and shutdown. Nice for playing games, too because of the bigger screen etc.

Anyone actually gotten the gift certificate code from FNAC yet? My order has finally been cancelled but no code yet.

BTW - FNAC will surely be selling these before mid nov

I find that my tablet is replacing my browsing use on both my phone and my laptop. It's a convenient portable form factor that makes it easier to move around with than the laptop and offers more screen space and typing ability than the phone.

You just wouldn't think they'd be so useful until you actually have one. another huge plus is the battery life over both the phone and the laptop.

Got the coupon. Had look through their site offers - they are all terrible or massively over priced.

The archos 8 and 10 inches are really bad apparently. After that you get into high costs and might be better reverting to ebay for a touchpad or ipad or galaxy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,593 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

Had a look at the options on the Fnac website, reckon I will holdout for a whole to see what becomes available.

asus transformer isnt included in the 100 quid voucher :(

xoom, acer iconia and samsung galaxy tab 10.1 are all included and priced exactly the same as everywhere else - so if you were going to buy a "real" tablet, the 100 quid comes in handy. If you want a bargain - you are out of luck - the hannspad on misco is the best choice at the mo for bargin tablet

edit : caved in and order a 32gb xoom last night-299 with voucher + 13 shipping - you wouldnt even get a second hand one for that.

312,90 for a 32gb xoom all in. Thats the wifi version btw - there is a 3g version thats 100 quid more.

The Acer Iconia is the same - but I prefer the look of the xoom. Both tabs are practically the same bar looks

Its a nice price for a honeycomb - no messing about - tablet. Just want it for the weekend now :)

List of Tablets from FNAC that can be got with voucher.

The archos arnova models seem to be gone out of FNAC stock (Being sold by vendors now at a higher price). Obviously popular due to the voucher.

Tell me about - I shouldnt be buying one either, but been looking at tabs since june and the 100 quid voucher just tipped me over the edge. Im spending next months cash :D.

If it is half as useful as my hero and the missus' desire, it will get alot of use.

I know that is not the best place to post it but anyone tried to order an iPad on Fnac´s website?

The international shipping for all tablets are around 12€ but for the iPad is 23€.

these vouchers are useless unless you are buying an expensive tablet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Gulliver

I went and bought the Motorola Xoom as it has a higher resolution and more RAM than the Toshiba. There is also a bigger selection of roms and kernels available.

Damn you HP!! I had to get a tablet to satisfy my TouchPad lust.

FYI though, the price reduction on the Tosh Folio is now on the €100 voucher list at €219, meaning you should get it for €119 + shipping (hopefully)

It does appear on the list but cant use voucher ,"does not meet terms of use". Persumably because of price reduction ,will give it a shot again tomorrow in case it is an error on their part as it appears on list
