I've been watching, 'cos I know that where-ever they locate, there will be lots of people looking on the inter-webz to find out how to get there by public transport ;) Haven't seen any announcements yet though.

I may be mistaken, but I think that they are temporarily located in the Galway Technology Centre beside the bank.

There is a shared reception desk on the ground floor. You could try making contact with them there, I would not advise going to their unit directly.

hi, iv got an interview with BioWare in Galway next week for one of their customer service representative positions. Just wondering if anyone knows what they are like to work for? they are hiring at the minute so if anyone has interviewed with them or even heard anything about what the company is like, id greatly appreciate any info!

They are a very new company in Galway so not sure if you will get much feedback here.... I met them at a career fair in NUIG a few months back; they were trying to convey a hip fun place to work and were eager to talk to people who liked gaming & technology. I got the impression that their wages might not be the best but I could be wrong there...

Never heard of them, the name sounds more suited to a biological weapons manufacturer.

If you're not well into video games I'd say forget it.

It's the first thing those kind of companies (ie: Blizzard) ask you.

They've done a lot of RPG classics like Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG The Old Republic.

If you're not versed in these I'd imagine it'd hard to get in there.

Hard to say. Bioware are owned by EA, who were once notorious for mistreatment of employees regarding overtime and such. That was a few years ago and im not sure if Bioware would have adopted the same practices as EA.

They are very popular games developer if that means anything. I think the support work involved in the Galway facility will be for "Star Wars: The Old Republic", which is due to be released later this year. You could likely be "playing" the games as an admin to help players or you will be taking phone calls. jayteecork is right, you would want to know your games if going for this job.

Just because you're into gaming doesn't mean you're going to enjoy doing customer support though. They are two very different things. I know a couple of people who worked for Blizzard in Cork and hated it despite being big fans of all things related to Warcraft and Starcraft.

Of course everyone is different but it's just something worth bearing in mind I reckon.

Does anyone know where in the city the Bioware offices are?

Need to know so that I can do some homework on what accommodation is in the area.

    according to online sources
Unit 7, Galway Technology Centre, Mervue, Galway

But ive been told by multiple people that they are setting up here
They are doing serious renovating on that building right now and putting windows into it so its quite possible.

    Anyone know for sure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

They don't make the information easy to find do they? When I saw the thread I thought of the Mervue Business Park as well but I can't say 100%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭kqcregg

Definitely in Parkmore when its finished. Mervue was always a temp location while they set up their main office. I think October is their deadlne but not 100% sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,031 ✭✭✭Lockstep

It's out in the GTC. Head towards the Eye Cinema along the lake and head straight on, past the Community College. Keep going up Wellpark Road and it's in the industry park on the left.

Are they definitely going in to the building that Kreig pointed to?

They definately look for good customer service skills - I got asked a lot of questions about my experiences in that when I had my interviews. They also asked if I was a gamer since I think they also look for someone who is experienced/passionate about games as well...

Yes I got the job and am starting on the 1st November!! I interviewed via webcam since I am currently in London, so it might be a little different in person. But I had one written test and then two online interviews....

Good luck tomorrow - you will have to let me know how you get on :-)

Congrats man, you wouldn't know which hours they have available? It's shift work so im guessing it will be 12hr shifts of nights and days but I was hoping that their would be hours available just for weekends as that's the only time im available. Sent in my CV today and did the online questionnaire. Hope I hear something soon!:D

Not sure to be honest - from what I remember I think they said it was 10 hour rolling shifts, but its hard to remember exactly..

You upload your CV, and add the job you want to apply for to the job cart and then press submit application - they replied within a day or two for me

I haven't actually checked it out myself, but made that assumption based on this earlier post in this thread.

I got an email today, asking me to complete an online survey asking a load of questions and examples of different scenarios etc.

I have no experience working in customer support before though so not sure how well Il do.

Can anyone tell me what to expect next if they get back to me? People who got a job working there, had you all experience at customer support before?

    Hi Joe,

Bioware got back to me after filling out the questionnaire. Next up was a video interview. So basically I logged onto a website, read the questions off the screen and answered them into my webcam. I had never done this before in this way and you don't get to read the questions in advance so I was pretty nervous. I also don't like talking to machines (I never leave voicemail messages). This was the last stage of the process for me, was never told why exactly unfortunately.
I do have a few years contact centre experience and a second European language.

    Hi guys,

I applied to Bioware just over a month ago and they rang me within a day of recieving my application and they asked to do the questionnaire online which I did. I then got a call from them telling me I had progressed to the next stage of the interview and they asked me to do the interview via webcam which I did. I got a call about a week after doing the webcam interview and they said they were very impressed with me and they asked me to go to Galway for a face to face interview.

That face to face interview was this day three weeks ago and when I was leaving the interview the person that was interviewing me seemed positive enough with me and told me that hopefully they would be in touch by Friday (2 days after the interview). I still had'nt heard anything back from them untill yesterday when I got an email saying:
    Hi,

Thank you for your application with BioWare.

Due to the high volume of applications coming through at the moment it may take up to three weeks before we can give you any feedabck.

We kindly ask you to be patient while we review your application and will be in touch as soon as possible.

If you have already received your feedback and were unsuccessful, please feel free to reapply for a position after 6 months of your initial application.

Today is three weeks from my interview date and I still have'nt heard any feedback. I'm sure I probably did'nt get the job but now I don't know since the above said:
We kindly ask you to be patient while we review your application and will be in touch as soon as possible.

I know they had alot of applicants but it is frustrating when you go through three stages of the interview process and then hear nothing back. It would be nice if they and other companies had a generic email that they email out to non successful applicants letting them know that they were'nt successful. It would take two minutes to copy and paste peoples email address' onto an email and it would put alot of peoples minds at ease.
