I will be positioning myself between the estuary and the stubbles hoping to get a shot at a mallard at first light. First season with the foreshore license so will be hit and miss. Will walk a few streams that evening more in hope than expectation. Nice to see the new season in though.:)

All depends on the weather if we get a lot of rain I'll hit a few local fields that flood and always draw duck. No rain no duck:o

I'll be walking the banks of the river Suir in the morning, then trying a pond or two in the evening.

Would love to be out getting a few ducks, but still nowhere to get them. I need to try get permission somewhere and bag myself a few.

Look forward to it as it's my first season wildfowling and would love a few pheasants too but as usual, they seem to only appear when the season is finished :p

Anyone any tips, feel free to fire them my way ;)

I am hopefully heading down to Laois & Offaly after Fallow on the mornings of the first and second. Then will flight a local pond in the evenings. Then hope to go to the Let in Wicklow over the weekend. Really looking forward to it. Have booked the 1st,2nd and 5th as holidays from work so have the first 5 days all for shooting. But to be honest I will prob be sick of it after I drag the first deer back to the jeep.

I can't wait for the 1st to roll around, been counting down the days with god knows how long now. I've two new permissions that look very promising and with any luck ill have something to bring home.

The dog is in flying form too this year and I think it wil be her year to shine. Only problem I have is trying to decide whether to go at deer or duck at first light, Im sure ill get it all in on the day anyway. The sights are set, guns are cleaned, cartridges & bullets bought...

    Roll on the first....:D

Jaysus I dont know what to do with myself... Usually go Duck shooting on Lough Ree and then a few local gun club ponds which are pure pot luck (should I feed them? and with what?)
BUT this year the father got permission for Deer shooting in Wicklow (couldnt even tell ya where! In the mountains somewhere beside a forest!!) It will be my FIRST TIME going after deer.. CANNOT WAIT!

if you have permission to shoot id say its first come first served, the duck could naturally just be there, a word of warning, many a row has started on the first morning over who has the right to shoot which bay ,splash pond etc:eek:

Ill be tucked up in bed this year, The 1st always reminds me of that US cartoon 'daffy duck' where the hunters (i think a pigs) go's shooting like crazy on the open season day. It can be like the wild west in places. I'll gladly take the leftovers with comfort in a few weeks......cc30
