Even though Sam Smyth was dire, the only good thing about him presenting was that the newspapers were reviewed in plenty of time so that they could have a decent discussion about them afterwards. Vinnie seems to forget the time every night and is then rushing the newspapers into the last few minutes of the programme.
haven't you learned that it's all about Vincent;)

What production? It's just a late night panel discussion programme.

A programme that cuts off immediately at the end without even saying goodnight, that saves all it's ad breaks up and they are just flung in together, usually near the end, quality of sound in the studio - crap, lighting is brutal etc etc etc

And....its starts at 23.00, no sorry VB comes on, then it's the news, then it's an ad break then about 23.15 the actual shows starts, then it dissapears near 23.50 - or what seems like depending when all the guests or VB wants to go home ! Sigh

Radio on the TV. They are getting a new studio soon, I expect in Sept sometime.

    Ruth Coppinger, socialist party.

Someone should tell her it's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and prove yourself a fool.
She clearly had no idea what she was talking about last night ... embarrassing watching her swinging in the wind, I dam near felt sorry for her

Yeah Callan, it was almost as embarrassing as the night when Cassie came on to read out messages from the tweet machine, and Vincent asked her about NAMA... The difference being that Ruth Coppinger is MEANT to know about this sort of stuff...

People need to be wary of the people on the left spouting their populist nonsense.. particularly the shinners.. It's clear that most of them dont have a clue about economics, and as bad as things are now, they could be much worse in the hands of these people.

"Tonight Eamon O Cuiv's resignation from the FF front bench, over resignations concerning the fiscal treaty. "

Another great start to the show by Vinny. :pac:

That's a bit of a coup for Vincent and TV3, I bet RTE will be rethinking the Wednesday movie after the 9 o'clock news..

He was on the RTE news at 6, O'Cuiv is doing the rounds of all the media outlets, the Big Issue should have an interview with him by tomorrow.

When did Dev the 3rd suddenly decide to appoint himself as the new economic conscience of this country? It all rings a little too ambitious.

If O'Cuiv is being honest and not playing politics with this, then I would admire him.. But being FF, there are probably cynical reasons for what he's doing...

I dont think he's right that "Europe need something from us now, so we should capitalise on this" attitude.. From what I'm aware as long as 12 countries ratify the agreement, our referendum is moot point.. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Sounds like if he was in charge we would be heading for the Great Economic War Part 2.

O'Cuiv talking about The Emergency... I'm half expecting him to have a go at Churchill..

John Paul Phelan TD for Carlow/Kilkenny.

You can be sure a dozen countries will ratify this.

    O'Cuiv actually talking sense..
Rare for any FF politician; actually rare for any 'party' politician in recent years..
Perhaps it's calculated and his motives are dubious; but at least he's talking sense.

The scaremongering is in full swing now. I can see a NO vote. People are fed up of being used as guinea-pigs by Europe so there could be a No vote the second time too.

Well, the agreement would still be ratified, but it if we don't sign up to it there would be a perception in the Markets that one of the main culprits of the Financial Crisis in Europe has sidestepped Merkel's solution, leaving a hole in the plan. There would also be uncertainty about where we get cash from, given that ESM funds are tied in to the agreement.

It is very much in Germany's interests to get a Yes vote from us. It gives a perception that their plan is working. A No Vote leaves many questions unanswered.

He will be thrown out of FF when he votes against the treaty in the Dáil.
There is a rumour he could join SF.

I agree, though it was a valid point that John Paul Phelan made about O'Cuiv voting through the bank guarantee.. Vincent seemed to think it was John Paul Phelan avoiding his question, but it does point out a serious inconsistency with the position that O'Cuiv has taken today..

The bank guarantee was agreed with the wrong information, the banks lies to the government.

    No way he'll join SF.
He'll walk in as an Independent, merely by distancing himself from FF and taking this stance.

He'll walk in an Independent, i'd imagine.

He was talking about setting up a new Party a while back, if he ever thought Fianna Fail were beyond repair (speaking on a TV3 Documentary).

On Radio 1 this evening they were saying he is very close to SF.

Why is O'Cuiv saying this NOW.. He didnt say anything like this during the FF leadership election, nor during the general election last year, nor any time since..

This stance is all about his political future. He is deserting the sinking ship of F.F. They are stagnant in the opinion polls and will never recover.
This man was part of the crowd who ruined the country and we won't forget that.

This is the start of the real battle for FF. All seems very 'managed', O'Cuiv walks and he's got a round of pre-arranged Radio - TV appearances to do. Smacks of a hard at work PR consultancy to me.

FF always do/say what is politically expedient at the time, which is why I never voted for them in any election. Consistency is something they don't value.

There's also the possibility that he actually doesn't wish to distance himself from FF; rather he truly wants to try and relaunch the party by distancing himself from 'Celtic Tiger' era FF, hoping to take the many voters with ties to the party with him, and sees himself as the leader of this renewal.
    Kinda like a 'continuity FF'.
Given his 'lineage' it might be a mistake to imagine he'd willingly look to sink FF/seperate himself from the tradition completely.
