I never knew all of my friends were such hyped up social activists, always fighting for justice!

Words cannot desribe how I loath the people that suddenly "care"

From the looks of Facebook, my friends are going out and they haven't bothered to ask me if I'd like to come. :(

I'm still putting up stickers for the craic.

But yeah, people are dumb, charities can be silly.

Whatchyou talkin' bout? I totes been campaigning for Kony's capture for like, i dunno, three whole days now? [/dickhead]

I genuinely hope the people that donate to Invisible Children will be able to sleep soundly knowing what they're actually supporting. (Though, I imagine few of them will bother to check).

I dont mind the charity, what I mind is the purpose(that sounds horrible). One video goes viral, suddenly the world cares and everyone is suddenly a social activist. What about every other feckin' problem that exsists in the world.

I obviously think it's wrong, but I'm not about to suddenly pretend like it's my highest priority or pretend I know all about it, which annoys me about *most people talking about it!

The fact that there are other problems in the world doesn't invalidate this one tbf.

No one's saying that. It's just really irritating that everyone is being taken in by that propaganda film (which is all it was) and are only now taking an interest in the situation in Uganda. Kony hasn't been active there since 2008 FFS.

Is it terrible that I have not watched, or want to watch the video? I know what it's about, I know it's terrible etc etc but I feel very ignorant for not watching it but I still have no desire to watch it. Few friends nearly ate the face off me today for not watching it...

It's one of the best examples of propaganda you're likely to see. The film maker basically spends 30 minutes telling you "KONY BAD! UGANDAN GOVERNMENT AND INVISIBLE CHILDREN GOOD! BUY OUR PACKS!" What clinched it for me was the way he used his "son" in it. Have never cringed more at such a contrived attempt to emotionally blackmail people.

Ah I see, thanks! I'll skip the video then and the three days it would probably take my Internet connection to load it.

The problem is that the fundamental objective of raising awareness about Kony is liable to suffer because of backlash against Invisible Children when the two aren't inextricably linked - you can support the cause without supporting the organisation.

Not directed at anyone here, but all these hipster kitty, 'I knew about Kony before he was mainstream' comments don't achieve anymore than sharing the video

Stupid Medieval English being impossible to write a stupid essay on. >_<

Is that essay on Medieval England, or Medieval english, the language?

The language! An essay on the country would be grand.

In all fairness it's hard to care about something you don't know is going on. I've only watched the video and haven't looked into what the real story is but like, if that's at least partly true, there are worse things you could care about...

Watched the video and thought it was a bit ehh, but the cause is worthy (if it exists blah blah blah I know nothing) so...s'grand. It's better than Friday tbf.

How do you write an essay on that? Sounds like absolute rubbish :p (the essay theme, not your writing of it)

Problem is, any campaign about Kony now is tainted by IC. Even all the people who are still planning on plastering posters all over the place without buying the packs don't seem to realise that by doing this they are indirectly supporting IC. Ill-informed people will see the posters, google Kony, be linked to IC, think "Ooh, there are so many posters around these must be the good guys, I'll donate." And that's where the main problem I have with this is.

Start by quoting parts of Beowolf (early period) moving through to the Cantebury Tales (late period) drawing on differences between english use and meanings etc then and now

fcs and I didn't even go to university...:D

YLYL is full of memes slagging off people for sharing it. I mean, jeez, there's no need to be that condescending, Mr. Wonka!

It's hard but I'm getting there! It's annoying though..I want to maintain my 1.1 average.

Problem with the English Dpt. is that they divided Old English and Medieval English into two separate modules so Beowulf has been done since last October and isn't relevant at all to this essay! Good idea though if I had free reign.:p

We've been given five extracts and we've to write a commentary on two of them...it's very specific which makes it a bit harder. Oh well!:P

I'd say I spent about 70% of this evening learning stuff without realising that it wouldn't be on our exam tomorrow! Curses!

Well tomorrow is the final exam for that module! I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much.. the reason I (now) know it's not coming up is because he told us what is going to be on the paper! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,116 ✭✭✭Salty

Sitting on my bed, 250 words to go in my essay...what I wouldn't do to just crawl under the covers and stay there for the whole of tomorrow.

    Edit: 180 words of bullsh*t left...LIFT IT.

    Edit #2: 92 words left...brain don't fail me now.

So much pressure. I know they don't mean to put me under pressure, but I am and I don't want to let them down.

Did you know stomach acid hurts your throat? I'm sick, missing two of my three favourite classes, and want to cry. Not even dry toast will stay down. ARGH
