    nothing crazy about it...
government needs to pay a wage bill of 18bn a year to public service employees, this money comes mostly from private sector taxes. therefore if the public service is getting paid well more than the private sector something has to break at some stage.. there just wont be enough money longterm...

ohh wait soemthing ahs broken and look at the crap we in...

simple fact we cant afford to pay the wages .... thats it... continuing to borrow money to pay wages will not work.

    The three big cost to the state as pat rabbite decreed them last night are;
    Health
    Education
    Welfare

So in the same vein of thought you are using, we cant afford it scrap them all!
Then we run a surplus, its perfect!

Yes, we unfortunately have to cut all public expenditure: public salaries, pensions, welfare of all kinds. In addition taxes will have to be increased for all of us though I think a Supertax rate, say 60% should apply to all incomes in excess of e100k. It's all bad news. We should also take steps to ensure we don't repeat the mistakes that got us into this mess and that requires political reform of Dail and Senate.:(

No, lets be generous and pay the public sector what was paid ten years ago, and the country saves ten billion a year. Problem solved.

Government figures on what they paid the public sector ten years ago. No need to go back to the 19th century to get sizeable savings.;)

In the first two I think you will find the majority of spend is on wage...Look at the measures they have to implement on health ie closing down a&es and on the Eduation ie increasing class sizes...all so the public sector wage is insulated...has the penny not dropped when you see these measures happening hand in hand with stuff like the FAS employees getting thier 70 days for the last 2 years before retirement...For God sake will the gov please wake up and put this 16/18 billion of ps pay and pensions back on the table the same way everything else is

    AS usual fliball your right
So starting with the HSE i see doctors and consultants are the highest paid so we should sack them first.

Another big part of the spend for education would be upkeep on properties. Well you'll be glad to know i have solved that, sell the school buildings or even knock them down and use them for agriculture. Then we can make money on the sales and we save money through no upkeep costs.

And as for welfare well thats gone completly, if people want to eat they will work or leave.

    Country is now solvent!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭gigino

The country would be solvent if the government ( inc the regulator, Central bank etc ) had always done a decent days work for a decent days wage.( not double in Louth what they get in Newry ).

Robbie I dont know what to make of you being honest..I cant make out if your serious, full of it or taking the piss or if you have lost touch with reality.

So we should sack all doctors and consultants in the HSE??? I think any normal person on here would see the stupidiy of this..By all means cut their wage but I would imagine a country even a small one like Ireland would need doctors.

So next point sell the school buildings..REALLY to who...Nama?? haha...and then what are back in the 1800s with hedge schools?

And your last point then when people get let go through no fault of their own they have no cash from the dole ... So they have to work even do there are feck all jobs...Be careful what you wish for because I reckon the number in the PS will be cut before the actual salary, I hope you dont find yourself on it there Robbie...and all the while you still envisage no cuts to the majority of the public sector just sack all the doctors....Robbie give up the pipe their kid its called DOPE for a reason

What are you talking about i cut the public service,
doctors are public service with no doctors the nurses are naturally gone, sure all they do is clean up after the doctors.

The schools are gone so why the hell would we need teachers?
No no hedge schools if you want your child educated send it to britain sure everything is better there.

Ok your right again fliball about cutting welfare but if a person cant find a job after 6 months(is that too genorous), then their dole is cut completely.
Straight away that would cut that payment away by over 41%(thats the percentage of people on the dole for over a year(a year is twelve months fliball)).

OK, enough with the personal stuff. Specifically, that's you, fliball123. And gigino, you may well also find yourself being infracted for thanking what are clearly unnecessarily personal posts.

As for the dole robbie...Where are the jobs...As I say I will not be responding to you as you really dont seem to be living in the same Ireland that I am

So wait a second are you tellng me that you want public sector staff to perfrom their functions, you dont want to sack them all?

Can you show me where I have ever said that? All I want is for the 16/17 odd billion that goes on paying PS pay and pensions to be on the table for cuts along with everything else that is up for grabs...In otherwords a bit of fairness

What exactly has the government said is up for grabs so?

What exactly has the government said is up for grabs so?

The gov has to get the 18bil deficit down to 3% by 2014 so as I say its a balance between cuts and tax increases...The only thing off the menu is Public sector pay and pesions via the CPA ...all I want is fairness eveything should be on the table

    What about this then
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has announced that there will be no income tax increase in the Budget.

Yeah but there was more people in the country in 1841 lets pay them what public servants were paid then!

No lets pay them what we can afford to pay them....
is it that hard to understand, we DONT have the money to pay a 18bn wage bill... like it or not it is really that simple... it cannot go on....

Taking aside the public vs private sector head butting... we as a country can not afford to pay these kind opf wages to public sector employees... really simple...

Asking the private sector tax payer to stump up more money in taxes is not a reasonable solution. You cannot expect the private sector tax payer to lower his/her lifestyle to continue to support the public sector employees lifestyles they have com accustomed to.

If this country was a business, the business would have no choice but to cut wages, cut staff numbers and expenditure... ( this has happened massively accross a lot of private sector business already, look at the dole numbers to see how many have been let go)....

    :D:D

If this country was a business and if wishes were fishes.
A country is not a business most certainly not, lets use america as example what business do you know that plans to run a trillion dollar loss this year, and the next and the year after that, in fact im not sure it ever intends to make a profit!

You do know that a tax raise would also affect public servants right?

So in summary what your saying is cut them not me, yes?

    What about this then

And do you know why Robbie...I will give you 2 reasons why Income tax will not be touched..

Reason 1: from the start of the year to date income tax has increased already by over 2 billion even with people leaving their jobs and joining the dole queue..I seen a figure of 20k have extra have signed on since jan...So if it continues that 4 billion extra in taxes...How much more blood do you want from that stone..

Reason 2: He did not mention the USC tax not being raised and we will also be getting the household tax , carbon tax and more toll roads which effect most if not all people working away. So yes kenny said this. but its what he didnt say that worries me

Everyone knows this means tax rates rather than the amount of tax. Don't pretend different.

Sorry I am trying to understand you but im finding it very hard!

We cant tax the working more becasue there has been an increase in the unemployed, is that what your saying in point 1?

Reason 2 affects everyone, if you dont want to pay increased carbon taxes gte rid of your car.

If you dont want to pay a hosuehold charge dont own a house.
Im not really sure what these have to do with a public sector versus private sector super row though.
So perhaps you can enlighten me?
Im seriously confused by this post!:confused::confused::confused:

I never said cut them and not me...

all I said is simple maths money coming in is not enough to cover money going out....

increasing taxes is not the answer.... decreasing outgoings is the answer...
