This was my first console. If you could call it that. My first "proper" console would have been an Atari 2600.

Wow, 'past you' has my sympathy

I'm not too bitter about not getting too many games tbh. I had very ace gaming friends who were all too happy to lend me their games.

Incidentally one of the cheapo games that my dad bought has ended up being, without a doubt, one of my most favourite games ever, Parodius Da! :D

    ... sounds very frustrating.

Indeedy. The ongoing frustration is that I just can't seem to get my hands on a NES at all. I've been looking for one for the the last two years but never seem to be able to find one in my price range, and then when i do find one someone else, has invariable, always gotten there first. :(

It was made from teak and powered by gas.

God, we have 1 of them in the attic. Does that predate my 83 Colecovision?

I remembered the orange sliders, but couldnt figure what it was!

Original Nintendo, fact it isn't even included in the poll makes me feel old.

Judging by the average post, the poll is inadequate for the alot of us age wise.

    That's pretty sad.

Age has nothing to do with it.
    No thought went into OP.

Pity, could have been a pretty decent thread in the right hands.

I didn't mean it in an offensive way, if the PS1 was his first console, it is always possible that the earliest decent console easily available was the SNES (which IMO was so much better but that is a different thread).

Dead right on the decent thread in the right hands, the list at the top is pretty woeful for a first console thread, haven't looked at the results but I'm sure other is ploughing away in front.

Where is the commodore 64 in that poll. Or it's big brother the Amiga.

I tried getting it working about 2 years ago but although it booted to the main blue screen it failed to load correctly.

Ahhhhhhhhh C64 memories of staring at this screen for 30 minutes listening to music that was worse than the 56k modem tune!

But then all was forgiven when we were rewarded with this screen

I think the NES was in the house before the Commodore 64. Plus a pseudo-Pong machine was already there when I arrived.

Looks like a thread started by a younger gamer given the restricted and newer console options. Brother had the ZX Spectrum in the hose which was replaced by my first console the NES.

My dad got us a Commodore Amiga (not sure what model exactly) when I was about 7 or 8.
We got 2 games with it, The Duel: Test Drive II and Street Fighter II.

Oh how I loved that dodgy intro music and driving that Ferrari!! :)

First console i got was a NES when i was around 4 so my love of games started at a young age. My first game was Super Mario Bros. 3. What a great introduction to gaming that was.:D

I remember when you had to blow on the cartridges before putting them in to get them to work.

Agreed. The mega drive was a fantastic console.

The sonic games, gunstar heroes, golden axe, streets of rage, echo the dolphin and many others. What a machine.

This was how the Amstrad CPC games would load, line-by-line along with a horrible buzzing noise, those were the days!

First gaming 'CONSOLE' would have been the NES. If we're talking first 'gaming capable machine of any type' then it was the C64 shortly followed by a ZX Spectrum 128k.

    Both in my attic.

Then the NES (In my wardrobe) later followed by an Amiga 500 (Attic). PSX (Stolen) then PC and haven't looked back.

I still upload classic games I've played as a child (Now relived through emulators as I haven't the heart to rig up the old machines) to my YouTube channel. It's kinda weird when you're a SF4 / SSF4 AE player and just punched people to bits in glowing 3D and decent graphics, then suddenly get a random urge to play IK+ on the C64...

Do you remember SF1 on the Amiga 500, beat up your friend (you were either Ryu or Ken) and then continue on your own, the way multiplayer should be.

(my memory is shoddy so if I'm wrong, apologies, but it is how I remember it).
