@irishredstar it was never ...Anco...FÁS....nor will it be the role of Solas to "create" jobs ...but then I wouldn't expect you to know that it may mean you having to research a little...
Now if you could only direct your anger in the right direction....like say a newly elected government who have not made a blind bit of difference....
How about trying to get rid of those rip off WPP Schemes..
And as for those Internships...last time we had internment in this country there was a huge outcry...now we seem to think its a great idea for young graduates to sing for their supper ....
Get angry people but channel your anger in the right direction....
And please do a little research before you post ....it just makes you look silly....roflmfbo

manpower - anco- then fas now solas how long will the name solas last, it's a bit like windscale now called sellafield after the worst nuclear nightmare in the uk.
    Just change the name

fas is a disgrace it costs billions and the only jobs they make are the own highly paid cushy numbers teaching Silly little short term mickey mouse courses to people who are forced to attend or lose their dole.

What happened to all the election promises to abolish fas

I am in total agreement here. These schemes are an absolute waste of people. A friend of mine who is in third level education (and just receiving job seekers assistance for the summer months) was sent out a letter to invite him to apply for tus programme. The letter stated that if he did not fill it in and return, he may lose his entitlement. He wrote a detailed letter, explaining that he was currently on a degree programme and wished to return to that in September but that he was actively seeking work and had applied for several positions. The following week, he received a letter to attend meeting so that his placement needs could be assessed. He did not attend this meeting. Now another letter has arrived inviting him to attend another meeting..or his entitlement is in danger. But he wants to return to his B.A. degree course. Does he have to do a 9 month placement instead? He has many qualifications as well as being self employed for many years. He is not long term unemployed as he has been a student for past few years and is on BTEA. Yet I know someone who has been unemployed for few years and actually wanted a place on one of these schemes in order to retrain but was not called for an interview. I say get rid of all such schemes and let employers pay, assess and train their own staff. These schemes are an insult to people's intelligence.

That meeting in a local FAS office takes 10 minutes and is just there to make sure he's not taking the piss. EVERYONE has to do that. That is infact the Dept. of Social Protection's jurisdiction.

To be on Jobseeker's you must be registered with FAS.

No, it's not the interview that everyone has to do. There are placements for 30 people on the tus programme. He had applied originally for the position of tus supervisor but was told he was not eligible because he was not long term unemployed. Then he was invited to take up a trainee placement instead..suddenly he became long term unemployed. I know, this is very confusing! After ringing today, he was informed he would not be required to take placement since he is returning to 3rd level education. I wonder who the lucky person will be who will be offered it instead.
