On a scale of one to ten?

Not drinking right now but man could I murder one, maybe it's the summer air but I'd walk to an off licence right now if there were one opened, or a 24hr tesco, stupid law prevents people from drinking when they want!

I love beer because it gives me hangovers.

Wine doesn't. Well not when drinking sensibly anyway.

6 cans, feel a bit dopey.

One bottle red, not a bother.

But even the word beer is better than wine

Or maybe I just don't get wine hangovers, coz like I just don't get them.

    I'm too dim to

I love a nice cold beer on a hot day, but wouldn't go for pints really. Only thing that can beat a nice beer on a nice day is a lovely glass/jug of Pimms with all the trimmings! Drool!!! Beer gets a 7, Pimms gets a 10 :D

You do realise Guinness is a beer?

I voted 10, I loves me a beer. In fact the "What beer are we drinking this week" thread is probably the thread I post most in, along with the beer/wines/spirits forum in general. I don't usually venture here with my beer talk, because if someone mentions they enjoy craft beers, they're usually labelled a beer snob.

Isn't guinness an ale and not a beer?

    Nope.

Can't beat a good wheat beer.

I wonder how many people on here have never tasted wheat beer.

Ale and lager are two types of beer, the difference is something to do with the yeast fermenting on the top for one, and the bottom for another. Guinness is a stout, which is a type of ale, which is a type of beer.

I wish it were winter so we could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it and melt it in the spring time and drink it!

Ah right. I'd actually meant to say stout, but stout is an ale, as you say.

    Carry on :pac:

Answer... With a passion. when the cool slippage of beer touches my lips I melt into a glory of happiness for some time and then the melancholy comes to fruition when I am on my last beer.

Well I suppose its arguable but me and two fello's are hoping to go to Munich, possibly for oktoberfest although we haven't really done much research yet. When I say much I mean we haven't at all. Mostly just for the fact that all the beer surrounds you in a confined space!

Actually does anyone have any experience of oktoberfest?

I've never had wheat beer, actually. I was told I might like it.

I hate the taste of regular beer though. Can't drink it at all. Cider is much nicer.

ahh the problem with cider is it has far too much sugar and can leave your full body in red spots. cider used to be my favourite drink but it can act funny on the brain, can and will cause blackouts if not taken in moderation.

Buy a bottle of Erdinger and put in your fridge for three days or so.

Or try Hoegaarden. Has more of citrusy taste off it.

Give them a shot. You may just be surprised. :)

beer in other countries is always way nicer

    still it's no whiskey though

If you think you'd like a sweeter wheat beer (considering you prefer cider) I'd recommend Franciskaner as a door-opener. Grolsch have a nice wheat beer as well.

Blue Moon might be a way of introducing yourself to wheat beer but that can be almost sickeningly sweet (for a beer).

Other than that you have your old staples Erdinger and Paulaner.

9 - the last 1 is in case you have to count Budweiser and Heineken and that other goats piss that gets passed as beer in this country as "Premium"

Never experienced a blackout from cider, thankfully. The worst thing it's done to me is maybe give a headache or stomachache. Have had much worse experiences from overdoing vodka and wine than cider.

Thanks for the recommendations, I shall keep them in mind. I'm actually going to Beerland (also known as Belgium) for a week or so in September, so I'll hopefully have acquired some sort of taste for the stuff by the time I get back.

I think most of the beers I've tried have been lagers. Maybe it's just lager I don't like.

As the title says, I particularly like cloudy wheaty beer.. especially on a hot Summer's day. Knocks spots of usual Lagers!

So a trappist beer from Belgium brewed by monks to a hundreds of year old recipe is the same as a can of Dutch Gold?

Or a bland mass-produced stout like Guinness has the same depth of flavour as something like O'Hara's?

Rubbish. I like plenty of Irish craft beers, I like the concept of Irish people consuming a quality product that is produced locally by Irish people, generating employment and tasting strongly of that wonderful drink - beer.

If that makes me a beer snob, well then that is what I am.

Don't get me wrong, I've had more different types of beer than you can shake a stick at and there are certainly nicer ones than others. I've visited breweries all over the place, long weekends in Munich and Brussels and I've yet to come across one that I would consider a 'high quality' beverage. Some fine one's but quality compared to say a fine wine/whiskey etc then certainly not.

So you admit your previous post was completely stupid so? There's no "getting you wrong" involved.

I'd rather be wrong than be a sarcastic pr**k. How does that suit? There's a difference between something tasting nice and being of a certain quality.

    Define quality hotshot.
