Starting off with the cocktail corner. This press doesnt get too much use nowadays.

second one has a lock on it because its the good stuff. Yellow spot at the back that you can not see and i just removed a caskmates to enjoy this evening.

And finally the open bar. All the usuals plus some weird and wonderful stuff from around the world. Multiples of lots of stuff in particular bacardi and pernod, also a lot of martini which dosent get drank anymore.

That's a really nice collection. How do you decide what to drink? :pac:

I have no real plan. Whatever takes my fancy really.

I also have shares in a few maturing casks... some Bladnoch wine casks, Aberlour, Tomatin, peated Bunnahabhain and Kilbeggan.

    My newest interest is Littlemill.

I have the open ones and a few others in the house but most of them in storage elsewhere. I am trying to stop buying whisky but it is not working out so far...

Needless to say I didn't pay anywhere near that for them, but Karuizawa and Hanyu prices in particular have gone mad in recent years. Hence I have had to get them stored professionally in Holland to stop the house insurance going through the roof.

Are they held as investments or for potential future consumption? I'm not sure I could bring myself to open something saleable for 4.5k, would probably be willing to drown my sorrows if there was a price crash though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 883 ✭✭✭Brockagh

They were mostly bought for consumption but now I feel I cannot afford to open some of them. I have opened some bottles that I had bought for a snip and rocketed in value, but they often disappoint.

I like to collect from closed distilleries because in a few years I won't have the chance ... the stock will be gone. Littlemill and Imperial are still pretty good value. Littlemill is lovely too.

I have about 50 open bottles, enough to keep me going for a long time...

There are online retailers all over Europe, as well as in Ireland.

    I buy from the Celtic Whiskey Shop, as well as. masterofmalt.com, thewhiskyexchange.com, whiskyshop.com, lfw.co.uk, royalmilewhiskies.com, Milroy's of Soho, www.whiskysite.nl, whisky.fr, whiskybase.com, whisky-doris.de... any many more.

There are also a good few whisky auctions, like McTears, Bonhams, Mulberry, whiskyauctioneer.com, scotchwhiskyauctions.com...

Lots of Duty free buys that have been sitting there for a while (southern comfort, smirnof black label, lemonchelo etc etc).

And not as many whiskeys that dont last nearly as long!

O'Briens do great deals every now and again ( bushmills 16 currently there for 64 quid, and jameson caskmates was there for 39 euros last month). Greenspot is 54 quid there aswell, normal price which is a tenner lower than most other places.

Also worth keeping an eye on Tesco and Dunnes. Wont get anything too "exotic" there, but you can sometimes get old favourites at decent prices.

Tesco are good for the bargins on the run of the mill stuff
you'd get nothing fancy in there though...

Larger stores usually have the medium-high range Irish Distillers products (Redbreast, Midleton, few Jameson expressions) and a small range of 10-12 year old single malts - usually Talisker & Glenlivet.

Smaller stores don't have these, though.

My not quite as impressive collection, which I'll post later if I can collate the bottles in one place (They're currently in three...) is mainly assembled from Tesco offers and coupons, O'Briens offers and the occasional "good" bottle bought in a specialist/independent for a special event. Still have a decent bit beyond the run of the mill from it.

You dont want it dude, trust me! Its about 5 years old & been open that length of time, with only a glass gone out of it. It was also very very cheap. I shoudl throw it out, but i have a problem throwing any spirits out for some reason. im sure it can be used in some pie or desert some day.

My shelf space has now run out due to my drink problem - buying it and not consuming it!

First pic is the whiskey cabinet - not in shot are open bottles of Black Bush, cheap bourbon and cheap (Aldi) scotch

    IMG_20150708_142000_zpswhjqfu8x.jpg

Second pic is the cocktail making stuff - not in shot are open bottles of vodka and rum. No apologies for the bargain basement spirits, they're all neutral enough that I don't think they affect the final product... the bargain basement vermouths on the other hand are rough!

Finally bite the bullet and bought 21yo Bush. Tasted it a few times previous. Looking forward to getting an occasion worthy of opening.
