Who are they? Honestly haven't seen anyone in the club games that I think at this stage will make a difference in the red heat of a senior championship game in Croker. The likes of Tom King or Mikey Sweeney are IMO just too small both in physical strength and size to make an impact.

Heard that Sweeney is definitely going to be looked at, Danny Kirby will likely be brought into the fold. Unfortunately I don't know where they're going to resurrect these new forwards.

King and Sweeney are called up though both won't feature till clubs are finished surely

Can't see either being near team come championship in all honesty

The most promising of the additions is Reilly IMO I think he's a good lad to have if cover is needed for any of the back positions.

3 minors from last year O'Connor, Loftus and Coen though I can't see any really featuring, just in for the experience I'd say

I think when Barry comes back we'll see Horan trying Aidan at 11 again

Going to head up for sure. Think I might bring the young lad to his first Mayo match..... God help him!!! :D

I see Adam Gallagher is marked as "one to watch" on the independent today. So I expect that Horan will try him at some stage.
    ADAM GALLAGHER (MAYO)

Castlebar's Tom King is an option for attack but 2012 minor captain Gallagher looks like a player equipped to meet the demands of the modern game quite quickly. Mayo are well served in the half-forward line already since Keith Higgins' switch there, but with Alan Dillon likely to miss much of the league, Gallagher has a chance to make a mark there.

Unless Tom King has a major change of heart he will be sticking to the soccer.

I think Coen and O'Connor MKII will get runs.

Just a mild curiosity here from a Dub but does anybody know anything about why the league match between Dublin & Mayo is on in Croker this year? It was on in Croker last year, McHale Park the year before so that should make it an away game to McHale Park again this year, no?

Also, any word on your match with Kildare being moved from St Conleth's in Kildare to HQ? Last I heard they were considering it an option since St Conleth's has very limited capacity

Was it not in mayo last year when it got called off due to fog?

Its in Croke Park because of the 2 year fixture rule whereby every county is allocated more home than away fixtures and then vice versa for the next 2 years. 7 games for each in the group makes for odd numbers so Mayo are playing their 4th away game again against Dublin.

    National Football League Division One
February 2nd: Kildare v MAYO (St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge)
February 9th: Tyrone v MAYO (Healy Park, Omagh)
March 2nd: MAYO v Kerry (MacHale Park)
March 9th: Westmeath v MAYO (Cusack Park, Mullingar)
March 16th: MAYO v Cork (MacHale Park)
March 29th: Dublin v MAYO (Croke Park)
April 6th: MAYO v Derry (MacHale Park)

Thought there was some initial rumours re the purported move but that they seemed to have settled on Newbridge.

There was a suggestion that Kildare may be willing to move it to CP on the Saturday night to make it a double header with Dublin v Kerry to open the league, but Kildare did not agree to it.

Kildare may struggle in the league this year so they need every advantage they have, so it makes sense for them to play at home.

It will be better in a smaller venue with a good crowd, rather than travelling to Dublin to play in an empty Croke Park. Everyone will save a few quid and the atmosphere will be much better too.

In fairness they'd a great campaign last year and often look good earlier in the year then flatter to deceive in champ. I think they'll get top 4 again myself

Anyone heading tonight? If it was in Dangan I'd go as it's very convenient to me, but Castlebar is a trek for me especially after long, first week back :(

Kildare may struggle in the league this year so they need every advantage they have, so it makes sense for them to play at home.

Kildare only agreed to move league fixtures to Croke Park last season and the season before because of the perilous financial situation that the county board found itself in. Kildare received €70k to move the two fixtures last year and this money was put towards some remedial work on the ground in Newbridge which has now had its capacity revised upwards as a result.

I don't think it was ever going to be a runner to move fixtures again this year now that the capacity is no longer an issue. Moving home fixtures to Croke Park was deeply unpopular with the support base. We only had two league games in Newbridge for each of the last two years. Members of the Kildare supporters club receive free entry to all games in Newbridge but this deal was not reciprocated for the "home" games in Croke Park. The county board and the supporters club are at loggerheads with one another and have been for some time. The county board had the cop on not to antagonise the supporters club even further at a time when Kildare seriously need to generate more funds through the supporters club.

Chaos up here, not enough gates open for the crowd.

Rogers just kicked a point it'll be very interesting see how he does this year. I have a feeling Horan was trying to bed him in as a starter for champ, or at least one of the first back subs, last season but then he got injured

Both wing backs have already kicked a point from play. Interesting- that was a huge strength for us in champ last year our backs popping up with scores.

    Hennelly on 45's

Will it stay same for champ I wonder? COC kicked some corkers v Dub 2012, but it's great have another option

Anyone in Castlebar (having a sneaky check of boards at H/T) comment on conditions? Low scoring- it's a still evening in Galway if a little cold, but nice for football- same there?

On paper that NUI team is nothing to write home about- hopefully Mayo blow them away this half. Hope Andy gets a run
