Thanks, good advice. I've never read any poetry in public before, so I think I'd rather my first one is at a smaller event! I was just about to offer to read at the Monday Echo in the International Bar when they announced they're not running the event anymore! :D Another one has replaced it though, so I'm gonna build up to reading at that probably.

I believe there is also gonna be a launch event for the other zine I'm being published in, which would be more low key, so we'll see about reading at that one.

Just do it. My first time reading at an event I was a state. Was grand after that.

You can't be any worse at reading than some widely published poets I've seen!

Listen to Das Kitty. If you are waiting for the perfect time it will never happen. Poetry audiences are usually small and very polite. You'll survive.

I've read a couple of times and it is the most terrifying thing I've ever done but the buzz afterwards is amazing.

My reading is tomorrow in the Galway library if anyone is around. Come in and stare at me disdainfully, but keep your heckles until the end.

    It was great!

There were 60 people there. I didn't fall over or nothin'!

Got really positive feedback on the story.

Well Done DK. That is an impressive crowd for a reading. Do you have a link to the story? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to read it.

I haven't the story published online. I'm thinking of throwing it at a journal or a competition.

I'll PM you a link to it in my drop box though, if you like?

I missed the poetry show. I'll catch the listen again.

This looks like an interesting course with Rob Doyle, who released his debut novel last year – Here Are the Young Men.

I liked his book and he's an interesting guy.

    Well Done!
Perfect ending. By the second verse I was thinking of Kavanagh. He is an automatic connection with canals but from now on you will be too.

Does anyone have any experience with sci-fi journals / magazines?

I have two or three stories that literary journals won't touch with a barge-pole because they're sci-fi and was hoping to find a home for them.

There's an Irish one, which I'm looking at, but can anyone suggest any international ones that I could read a couple of issues of?

What's the Irish one? Might take a look once my standard comes up a bit.

The thing went well today :) Was great to get the first one out of the way. I was a bit nervous, but was okay once I started speaking.

Was a nice event, some lovely stories were read.
