I couldn't believe my eyes this morning when I woke up. The new hackers on the scene, Lulzsec, had released 62,000 people's emails and the subsequent passwords. I checked to see if any of my families accounts had been breached but luckily they were no where to be seen on the list.

What are your ideas on this group. Do you think they are doing the world a favor and showing that the internet is not a place where you should feel completely safe, or do you think that they are pure criminals.

I feel like I'm taking a position on the fence here. I am a great supporter of the hacktivist group, Anonymous, and all that they do. However I feel that this splinter group has no moral substance and are purely feeding their ego.

When do you cross the line? Is what they are doing good for online security? Is there more of a meaning behind their attacks, rather than being "just for the lulz!"?

I have been following their twitter feed almost religiously, in awe, of some of the things that they have done so far.

Personally I have little time for this group but I would love to get your opinions.

Please stop asking for a download link to the list. The information on that list is highly sensitive. I highly doubt that Boards.ie or the users mentioned on the list would like this information to be shared

To all the emails? Ehh not sure that's a good idea!
The download is on their twitter but as you would know, I do not want to have any responsibility for someone losing personal info. It's all there on their twitter. I recommend that you check for your own.
I'll link their twitter and an article about how they brought down the CIA's website.

Thats the list of the emails got to it through

seems they hacked a porn website and released the emails so people could know if their friends were using using porn and make fun of them.

this one says there are 26000 so not sure might be different to what OP is talking about as he said 62000

edit: i see there is another one, thanks fingers

Well I'm OK since I'm not a former ISS or CIA executive :(

Facebook managed to defeat these guys by locking emails but the CIA were unable to prevent them?

Someone used 11111 as a password, they deserve to be hacked.

They've even got a phone number if you want to request a DOS attack on any website form the comfort of your own home.

"Call into 614-LULZSEC and pick a target and we'll obliterate it. Nobody wants to mess with The Lulz Cannon -- take aim for us, twitter. #FIRE." I called the number today. There's something there. I didn't leave a take-down request. The group claims to have received overwhelming response to the hotline, tweeting: "5000 missed calls and 2500 voicemails from today. The Lulz Boat must sail off and organize itself." Later: "Now accepting calls from true lulz fans -- let's all laugh together at butthurt gamers. 614-LULZSEC, accepting as many as we can, let's roll."

I like havnig these guys around. Sure, they may do some pretty bad **** in their time, but maybe they'll unearth things during their travels that are completely worth it all : /

bunch of wánkers in my opinion..
Fair enough highlighting a security issue...but publishing the names+passwords and telling people to post what those people were doing on their facebook sites?
That's bull...I'd like to see them deal with the fallout if they discovered one of their parents on the list..

It was only after following the link I saw they got to Bethesda as well, those guys did NOT deserve it *rarghghghg*

I'm not talking about the pron.com one. lol tongue.gif

62,000 random emails. There is a high chance that someone here could have their email on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,316 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

emails are kinda jumbled up so for those of you who are not too computer savvy...

There is an option in you texteditor that allows you to "Find" something. Just click on that and type in your password.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,316 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Here is just one thing that those who are on the list can expect.

Its just crazy what some people use as a password, a lot of people use password as their password. I was wondering if my password which consists of upper and lower case letters and numbers and symbols was easily hacked.

There are too different releases. The 62,000 emails are just random I think. But the 26,000 that were the pron.com ones.
